      Loved that Dan, what a load of numptys these people are. I have a question for you, are there any Flat Earth videos explaining their theory, or their reasons, for draining water rotating in different directions either side of the equator. I saw a demonstration of this a few months ago, I think it was Simon Reeves travelling around the equator. It showed water draining from two funnels placed either side of the equator, maybe ten meters apart. The water, as we know, traveled clockwise in one funnel and anti-clockwise in the other. I would love to see them explain that

Nobody knows exactly what it was for, but one of its notable features is that the position of sunrise moves on the horizon daily, and on Midsummer's Day [ Summer Solstice ], it rises directly above the 'heel stone', when viewed from a specific point. I was at Bletchley park last week and was fascinated by the achievements there. There was a guy demonstrating radio and showed a live radio skip from a geostationary satellite. A random bloke asked the guy how we could speak to astronauts on the moon if we now need a satellite to receive a signal. The operator said he wasn’t sure how they did it but probably used the orbiter round the moon as a relay station. He went on to use the delay in signal return to calculate the distance the satellite was away by timing the signal. While he was doing this this random bloke went on a bit of a tirade about how we never went to the moon and this operator was part of the conspiracy to keep us “in our box” I asked him if he thought the earth was flat he said only an idiot doesn’t. I very politely told him to fuck off and stop interrupting the radio man. I never realised so many halfwits are among us.

    • @efulmer8675

      @@charlesbarrow803 You could actually make the horizon possible on a flat world for D&D by assuming the air (or atmospheric medium if it's anything other than 'air') always bends the light downwards. Then as you look through the air, the light you see comes from progressively higher and higher angles off of the ground, providing an illusion of a horizon that always exists wherever you are and gets farther away the higher your elevation. This method disproves an actual Flat Earth though :)

      @@efulmer8675 can you elaborate on this please (not a FEer just curious)?

    • @efulmer8675
      @efulmer8675 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@abdullahumar6003 When light passes through a medium, it won't change direction on its own. However, when light reaches the interface between two media (warm air and cool air say) the light will bend according to Snell's Law: n1 sin t1 = n2 sin t2 where n1 and n2 are the Index Of Refraction for the two media and t1 and t2 are the entry and exit angles of the light.
      If we assume Snell's Law (which is very easy to demonstrate) is true on this D&D world or the Flat Earth, then the air at every layer has to have a uniformly lower index of refraction than the layer below it as you go up in order to keep bending some amount of light towards your eyes.
      However, if you want a sunset to happen on this world, depending on the relative difference in neighboring air layers, some locations will never actually see the sun 'set' below the horizon, they'll see it reach some angle above the horizon and then turn red and then just... fade out, although its warmth may still reach them for a bit longer. This effect becomes more pronounced the greater the difference between neighboring layers' indices of refraction. On a D&D world where the DM can set these kinds of things... this could be a fun twist on a sunset. We don't experience these kinds of things on Earth (granted, the index of air is only very slightly above the lowest it can possibly be: 1) but this method can't prove a Flat Earth.
      Anyways, hope I was clear enough for you and that you enjoyed this. UC Boulder made a bunch of physics simulations on this and other topics. Here's the one for Snell's Law if you want to see what I was describing in action:

    The first lady makes the same discovery I made when I started gardening beside my house and I observed the sun slightly changing course each day. Immediately I knew it's because the Earth is round and we have the tilt to give us seasons, but I took the cosmos up on the opportunity and enjoyed watching it over the year, marking where and and when it changed its path to gain a first person understanding. *My observations: It makes a big curve in the summer, staying up a long time to make the long journey, then as winter approaches it transitions into a straight journey across every day, giving shorter days.. At least up here in Canada.*

    Another moon orbit observation. I mentioned that the moon's apparent transition across is the sky is slightly slower the sun. This is because the track of the moon's orbit is in the opposite direction of it's apparent transition across the sky.
    Tonight the nearly full moon was about six o'clock in reference to the planet Jupiter and fairly close (about five moon diameters). Right the moon is about 8 o'clock. they would normally about the same except for the moon's monthly orbit. Jupiter also moves across the night sky but it takes long term tracking to detect that it's orbital motion.
    This understanding of mine is due one thing, I looked up at the moon one night and realized that anytime I see the moon, I know exactly where the sun is at even well after sunset. Here is a good example, if you look at a full moon, the sun would be hitting you in the back of the head. The earth is actually in the way but you can be sure of the direction. It's funny for people when you point straight down and say the sun is right there. They look at the sun and then down in wonder. A real time example was just one day before they announced an eclipse. I was outside about 11:00 PM and look up at the full moon is was quite full and I thought,, it is a wonder that there is not an eclipse. Turns out I was right. It was the next evening.
