Even without player control, I think they are OP, but I have 3 in my current game that just guard gates so the Split have a fighting chance to build up. The Zyarth now have 3 raptors in my game
I do take a little bit of damage (check at 1:50). I use Traction (+70% recharge rate, it's huge), so most of the time shield recharge rate is greater than damage taken.
You cannot buy Asgards (without mods anyway). You have to steal them from the Terrans. There's always one in the Moon map, usually guarding the gate to Venus.
apart from stealing, you can also buy the plans for the asgard (iirc 27 standing with the terrans, you need both the asgard and the xl main weapon to even begin to build it, the asgard is somewhere arount 280mil)
The Asgard is basically a gun platform... its slow and unmaneuverable but an absolute monster when parked at a gate to a Xenon sector, shields seem to be more effective than any other XL, turrets can be spec'd to steadily destroy S/M and the main guns can one shot L's and 1.3 shot XL's. Normally you can just ignore it and know it'll take care of itself and keep anything bigger than an M from getting away from the gate. During an invasion (more than 3 or 4 K's) you can take the helm (AI captains are too stupid to use the main guns) and clean up ANY SIZED invasion fleet of K's and I's in a couple minutes... then clean up the smaller stuff at your leisure. If all the invading K's concentrated fire on the Asgard they certainly could be a threat, but a single K can't really dent the shields and the AI again isn't smart enough yet to use those sort of tactics. I have a gate blockade fleet made of an Asgard and 9 Osaka's supported by a patrol with a pile of Osaka's and they can stop up the gate from Savage Spur without losing ships. very large invasions (with a ton of P's and N's) can take out turrets and engines on the Osaka's but they've never put a dent in anything mounted on the Asgard. I HAVE had issues with an Asgard I tried to fly to Savage Spur 1 to take out that crystal thing (part of a mission)... because it's so slow and they have this dumb rule that ANY xenon ship can lock out Travel drive on any enemy, they just harried it through multiple enemy sectors until they finally damaged the main engines. IMO no ship smaller than 1 level below another should ever be able to block it from doing anything it wants... that's a silly rule, an Asgard probably displaces 1000x the volume of an N yet ONE of them flying behind you can prevent you from engaging the Travel Drive... just dumb.
They certainly are, but they miss a LOT against anything smaller than a P. I like to see the S ships melts, even if it means that Ps stays alive a bit longer.
Seeing that main gun 0 a K that bloody quick had my jaw hit the floor. Talk about 1 shot 1 kill. :)
it can delete a xenon I before it overheats as well. thing is mad op
yup if you time your shot right to just use a little of the heat, you can kill 3 K's on a single recharge, at about 1 min to recharge.
"We can't repel firepower of that magnitude!!" ~some Xenon... probably.
This show what the true power of Terran Asgard is... Best ship in the game, especially when controlled by player.

That ship is amazing. I currently have 2 defense and a combined Telidi and my fleet patrol it. So far the branch nine has fallen to us! Nicely done!
Love a lasguard. Personally I have tracking launchers in the M turret slots loaded with heavy guided missiles.
Those repeaters turrets have 10 % hit chance. lol

Yes it's fully modded. I use Slasher on turrets (for the reload, doubles the DPS), and Annihilator on the main beam (for cooling and damage).

@@juicebox6581 Not true. L and XL shield recharge all time, damage or not. Only S and M shield have their recharge stopped when they take damage.

Is it invincible?
It's not. Asgard is quite fragile against big fighter swarm (VIG for example ...). It's very slow so no way to dictate how the fight goes.

Beams are cool, but my L pulse turrets seems more deadly, they would have shot a single p far faster
