I really enjoyed the demo. The art and music really stood out to me. 2 minutes in and the EA version already looks great. Easily earned my 3 bucks.
Can I just say... A lot of these games, would literally be perfect with the Steam Deck. This "genre" (as it's turning into one), would be great on handhelds, playing on the go, or on breaks/lunch at work/school.

So far I've done every nomad survivor run via steam link on my phone. The touch controls can be finicky at times, but that's my fault for not investing in an actual controller. I can definitely see great deck potential.
The depth of the per character relics and simple loop make this a perfect game for 3$. Absolutely no complaints.
Wander desperately needed frostbite for that endgame, Guaranteed kill on 4 freezes on normal enemies, and in 100 freezes on bosses would’ve helped a LOT
The crossbow gains damage the longer you stand still so its built with fulsade perk and orhers like it
personally, I've learned to build it around on empty clip effects
Diamond with Crossbow, Smite + Power Up and +HP, Giant and Titan is Broken
I just have a deadzone around me at all times

Really digging the sound and art design of this game, I would love to see some more as you progress through those ranks. It did seem like the final boss stopped having damage numbers

That was a pretty crazy run. It screamed of death spiral for the entire 2nd half of the run and you kept living the dream anyway! Great to watch!

In the demo, crossbow was _the_ weapon to build for a summoner build.
Both the scythe and the daggers deal _your weapon damage_ (or at least used to), and crossbow, with just a few damage upgrades, goes easily into oneshot territory even without standing still.
And since one of the upgrades is pierce through any enemy you kill, that goes into _unlimited pierce_ territory. About as broken as it sounds, you cut absolute swathes in the enemy horde... Especially when you get magazine extensions and it becones a burstfire crossbow.
...As long as you don't take split shot. Thought that went without saying XD
Just bought the full game - yes, they DID buff the revolver to the same level of power. Crazy.
Guess the grenade launcher might just be the new summoner meta.

This feels like the character system from Binding of Isaac meets the upgrade system from nova drift

Crossbow does more damage after standing still for a moment.
Try the grenade launcher. It does 45 damage from the start and I managed to hit 100 dmg with. I also had magic dagger and scythe, both which were doing 120 dmg or something, because they scale from bullet damage. But I got killed by my own bombs unfortunately :(
Picked this game up today as soon as I remembered that it hit Early Access. I've only put about 40 mins into it so far just due to a lack of time to play. I'm with you on having multiple takes on the Bullet Heaven genre. I love VS and Nomad Survivors, but I am happy to see some alternative approaches.

The last three minutes felt super intense, and I wasn't even playing
My favorite combo is the Shana crossbow and the way I built it was not to rely on the damage the crossbow does but instead getting as many bullets out there, so by getting splinter and fusillade asap is very useful because when an enemy dies the bullets will multiply and it will shoot more enemies…it’s also amazing with with some burn damage and rubber bullets so a when a bullet hits an enemy it bounces off and hits even more enemies and just multiplies the bullets. It’s a very good aoe build and you can use other characters with it but I chose Shana so I can really get the upgrades needed for this build.
That big laser boss seems... strange. I'm starting to suspect it doesn't take damage at all because damage numbers aren't showing like they do when you hit any other enemy.
It takes damage but it is very tanky. I played a build with rubber bullets on the flamethrower with increased burning damage that melted things. I died because it was hard to see the screen but I think I got twice the essence he did.
You might actually be right cause at the end of the run when the timer ran out every single enemy died except for the laser boss

This game is the same as a crack addiction
in the demo, reaper rounds, crossbow, armed and ready, and whatever increases damage after reloading was always my favorite build, it just shreds everything in sight because reaper rounds pierce until it doesn't kill an enemy, and you one shot every enemy, you shoot out bullets super fast, that you were constantly within that 1s of reload and because of the damage increases from the reaper rounds upgrade path light weaponry became extremely useful cuz it does gobs of damage
Going defense in a bullet heaven is.. unique.
Crossbow has a base firerate of 4, and you get a bit more on some upgrades here and there, so it seems to me that ammo on it would actually be a massive upgrade as you can unload all your clip in less than a second anyway, unless you somehow massively increase the ammo capacity somehow. The Tome of Rage on 43:56 would probably have been a great upgrade.
The -50% dmg would hurt a bit tho.
I wonder if taking additional ammo is actually bad for crossbow.
Everybody I’ve seen has defaulted to assuming it is, but what if the crossbow’s fire rate is actually insane so getting an extra bullet is amazing?
And then risk of rain gets a vampire survivors version. keeping all the rules just in bullet heaven mode
I don't think you are firing as fast as you could in that last game. Crossbow reloads pretty fast, and you can really just spam fire before the reload bar completes.
I'm guessing that "boss" at the end isn't meant to be killed. You could see that it wasn't ever taking damage, it was more of a hazard to play around rather than a boss to kill.
I do say that those worm enemies definitely have to drop a lot of xp to make the endgame a little more exciting.
Also frostbite seems almost mandatory at this point
The boss is actually super easy to kill. I just had a very low damage build.
My video on Friday has a run that ripped it to shreds in seconds.
the starting enemies have 25 hp for a little bit, then it inreases to idk what, if you stand still with the crossbow increases it's damage to a max of ~30 without any ugrades

i'll pick this one up. i haven't gotten spirit hunters yet and i was more excited for that one than this one, 20 minutes till dawn. watching the gameplay though, yeah i'll definitely pick this one up. looks epic and is that 3 buck perfect price.
my next hopeful one is Fray Fight, which is free and release in a couple days. then Boneraiser Minions release in 2022 at some point.

went you hit a tree whit you shot there is a damage number that apear so if you cannot blow them out why would there be or why the frozen effect can target them
I like the game but the fact that in the endgame you kinda need a frost build with shatter and % max hp damage is kind of pain

It’s similar to this, except that you don’t aim, or have to manually attack, the game just attacks for you.
There are a huge amount of enemies, which progressively get more powerful and more numerous as the game goes on (which it can indefinitely), which can result in some spooky sh*t where you get completely overrun by a huge zombie-like horde in a matter of seconds.
Btw, it’s a mobile only game (as far as i know)

It kinda existed with Nova Drift and Magic Survival, but VS distilled the concept and popularized the genre.

The dragon sucks. You should get freeze, lighting and scatter
The dragon has the potential to do 200+ damage per shot, which is really solid on a summoner build. It just really sucks early on.

16:00 why won't you shoot? I'd say you just need some experience but I don't think there is anyone alive that has as much experience in this genre as you are. Always go damage and fire rate. Hope this doesn't sound mean I love the content
Your build was fun but you pushed every xp away from you and made it to hard to gather it all. A normal game you'd end up around level 30-37, this comment is more for the viewers since you probably already realized it :)

Why do people say bullet heavens? I don't get the distinction from a bullet hell, other than an aversion to swear words. It doesn't sound nearly as cool but hey, do you.
They're functionally the opposite. Instead of dodging bullets, you become the bullet hell.
Don´t know how you guys can still play those Vampire Survivors clones after playing so much of it, I am already fed up with Vampire Survivors and still only EA... I see those games and It is just "meh", more of the same thing you are already sick of.

@@the_Acaman "most people", that is bold... Clones never really live up to the originals and TBH I frown upon devs that don´t have the capacity / creativity to come up with new stuff and have to jump on the bandwagon of some successful game.
