    OU needed Texas to join the SEC for 2 reasons. 1) The SEC was not going to accept only 1 team. There needed to be a second team to join with OU. 2) The SEC was not going to accept OU and OSU as a package deal. The only other team the SEC was willing to accept was Texas.

      No reason to take Clemson. S.C. is in the same state, can't get more $ from networks for teams in the same state. That's why they didn't take OK State. TX is an exception due to their brand, national alumni base, and annual athletic dept spending and because Texas is very big state with a large population. The SEC would want North Carolina or Virginia before taking Clemson. New territory and larger state populations. Clemson is s GREAT program now, but where will they be in 10 years after S.C. has been getting $80 million per year vs. $35 million per year for Clemson in the ACC. Besides, Clemson couldn't leave if they wanted to, they have a grant of rights for 15 years. The ACC is in serious trouble with that hideous, long-term TV contact. If the ACC doesn't add Notre Dame, and they won't, they're screwed.

  • @uttermanbo
    @uttermanbo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Texas inquired first, and was asked by the SEC to bring Oklahoma. Oklahoma may have wanted to go to the B1G years ago, but they don't meet the academic standards. As far as football goes it would have been a slam dunk. It would have given Nebraska their rivalry back, but there was never a chance Oklahoma would have been accepted.
    As a fan of an SEC program (Florida) I really don't care much about the addition. I know both programs are blue bloods, but I hate where this is all going. The 8 remaining programs are talking about unity, but will bolt at the first liferaft. Texas has sunk two conferences because of boredom, and their arrogance towards all their peers is what drove the original four off a decade ago.
    Oklahoma vs Nebraska was a great rivalry. Oklahoma vs Oklahoma State is a great rivalry. Both are now dead in essence. Thanks conference realignment .

The most that the Big12 could attract were teams from the AAC and Mountain Pacific in 2016, now that move would be a lateral move at best for those teams. The Big12 just does not offer any major colleges/programs anything now. And to be honest, all but 2 or 3 of the remaining schools are attractive to other conferences. Ten years ago there was DEFINITELY interest from FSU in leaving the ACC and going to the Big 12. That's documented because it was not a well kept secret. FSU was upset with the ACC and wanted out. There were rumors of other ACC schools being interested, Clemson being the primary one of them. Clemson was not the power house then that they are now. I believe Georgia Tech was another one and one more I can't remember, it was lower key though. The Big 12 was busy flirting with Notre Dame at the time and they put the ACC schools on hold until negotiations with Notre Dame were complete. The ACC schools did not appreciate the snub and backed off realignment publicly. The Big 12 offered Notre Dame a partial membership in football and full membership in all other sports. Notre Dame said they would think about it, went to the ACC and told them what the Big 12 offered. The ACC matched the same offer and used that to keep FSU and the other schools in the ACC, then had them sign a 20 year grant of rights so none of the universities could leave. The Big 12 screwed themselves out of landing 2-4 ACC universities, didn't land Notre Dame, and eventually ended up with West Virginia and TCU. This colossal failure cost the Big 12 commissioner his job. Totally out maneuvered by Notre Dame. Kind of like how Bowlsby just got out maneuvered by Sankey. My guess is he will also lose his job before long. Rightfully so.

    Why should OSU be mad? OU has been lining OSU’s pockets for years. If OSU left the BIG12 it wouldn’t affect OU one bit. OSU has never won a BIG12 championship game.
