I got some like those. As I ignited the scrapings, they rose up into the air at me. My other magnesium firestartes do not do that. I will have to try them again. GOD Bless you and your families
I think the biggest problem I have with any of these fero rod/magnesium type of firestarters, is that if you are prepping to take all of this stuff with you, just take a storm lighter/jet lighter, and it will light anything in pretty much any weather conditions.it’s not as though a ferro rod is traditional like a Flint and steel - it is a very modern man-made item. So just use a gas lighter.
lol i got two also from ebay ..i coudlnt ignite the so called magnesium shavings with a bic lighter! also the scrapers where smooth rounded on all edges and you would have more luck shaving with a plastic knife. the fire steel barely put out a spark even using a tungston steel knife sharpening edge. the ones i got where square shaped. at least yours look like they are actually magnesium!

Oh I agree! And easier to start a fire with a flame over a spark.
