I think this is a good move from FZ. I really like him as a player and love to watch him but I think its more important to speak out loud about the problem, like he just did. Definitely support him.
Yes, it's really sad. Hope his action will bring changes to the TT world, especially the unfair rules of WTT and the unreasonable ranking system of ITTF.
If players and influencers, like Bobrow, Pongfinity, TTD and others keep silent about this idiotic system WTT has created, then table tennis is doomed. Paid voices and selfish clowns who care more about selling rubbers than speaking up about actual issues in sport. Imagine the rage from media/fans if NBA would kick LeBron James out of the NBA due to load management... 👎
@@OlavKTTT Well, soon we will see the true faces of all the "influencers". Do they really love the game and care for its well-being, or they only love all the profits and benefits they get from it. Sadly, the bet would be on the second option...
I have to say it's such bold move. Fan coud ignore the unfair rules and go along with WTT and CTTA for personal gains. But he chose to speak out with his action. I just hope his sacrifice won't go in vain.
♦️Всем теннисистам и фанатам Настольного тенниса необходимо поддержать Фан Джэдунга и бойкотировать турниры Международной федерации настольного тенниса! Единство всех теннисистов должно быть!!!
Well, just shock to read this and to know that there are ridiculuos rules like fines for not participating. This would not only affected some very top players like FZD but also many other good players that wanna comeback to play again after injuries or other obstacles. This seems unfair as every ranked top players are force to compete otherwise they got this penalties. Every good players that have been retiring from WTT might have faced this penalties rules, and so they choose to retire than to comeback again from the bottom and got the fines
If there is an over-reach of the ITTF and WTT then ALL PLAYERS should follow this lead. Without them there is no bureaucratic organization. This would not be good for the sport as a whole but no organization should be able to induce any "punishment" for a person choosing when they compete and when they do not! PERIOD!!!
😮a great shame to see such a great player leave - I hope it compels the authorities to rethink the rules, and think less about money and more on the beauty of the sport and the magic players like Fan Zhendong bring to the game
Unbelievable! One of the GOATS, a legend of the sport and one of the best ambassadors of the game is forced to retire due to an unfair rule. This TT era will not be as competitive as it should be without the reigning Olympic champion.
It is ridiculousand unfair. If younger players require more opportunities, they should earn them through merit rather than forcing one of the greatest players, Fan, to step aside. Such actions clearly go against the true spirit of sportsmanship. I hope Fan wins this fight, he is definitely a respectable player.
Красавчик!!! Настоящий мужчина, а не терпила. Да и уходить надо непобеждённым, а не ждать, пока одряхлеешь и тебя начнут обыгрывать игроки третьего десятка.
WTT tournaments are too frequent. As a viewer I don't mind watching them much less often but feeling like I am watching players who have a life, and are coming well-prepared and well rested. With the amount of emotion that goes into each tournament, there is no need to challenge each title every few weeks.
Are there any conflicts inside of CTTA? According to FZD he heard about the rules only recently, while they were there for like 4 years. It smell fishy. Nevertheless a good move to call this out. Unfair rules and system.
Mr. Fan is one of my all-time favorite TT players. If he retires because of bad rules or being forced to retire by his coaches, that is wrong. Mr. Fan should be the one who chooses to continue competing, not by outer influences. But being forced to retire by his coaches doesn't sound right. Because none of the Chinese players other than Mr. Fan can represent a sure victory. Why would coaches want to get rid of Mr. Fan? After Wang Liqin, Ma Lin, and Wang Hao, the players who anchored the Chinese team were Zhang Jike, the Great Ma Long, and Fan Zhendong. Especially Ma Long and Fan Zhendong. It seems that no challengers could get by either one of them. Ma Long is gone and now Mr. Fan will be out, the Chinese TT Team is at least vulnerable. Non-Chinese players don't have to agonize over losing before the start of a match.
If a top player plays in many tournaments, he'll be studied by other team coaches and becomes more predictable. Probably this is a reason why China team doesn't want to expose their best player to too many regular tournaments.😉
Competing in any competition should be a choice not a directive from the organisers. Of course the more one competes the more potential success and points can be accumulated but evaluating when to compete and when to rest should not be subject to any sort of penalties from the organisers. The organisers of sports like table tennis and F1 need to remember that fans care about the treatment of the sportsmen and women that they support. We do not consider them as commodities to be used and abused by the organisers for their own financial and personal gain! Good to see people like you pushing back on so called professional sporting organisations like ITTF and FIA who must be reminded the the sport people make the sport not them!!!
Ok, I'm shocked, speechless... We lose the current best player (still better than LSD and WCQ). Not seeing him for months after the Olympics was an alert and I was afraid a would retire. Now, we see the result of these fines and pressure on the players.
@@carlpeterkirkebo2036 Absolutely, taking into account he smashed them whereas he had taken a 3+ month rest after the Olympics. What, you would wreck the three of them? 🤣🤣🤣
@@chinacansay That did not really answer my question although I also know his results from the Chinese Super League. I guess you are saying that the claim that FZD is the best is based on these two matches. First of all these matches were hardly "easy wins". FZD won two of the sets 12-10 against LSD. If that is called an easy win I wonder what your would call a hard win. Winning a set 24-22? Second of all FZD lost 0-3 to Xu Yingbin. In short; basing a claim on two matches is not viable statistics.
WTT new rule forced a penalty on athletes for each withdrawing from a tournament. As for Fan ZhenDong, that's $5000 each time if he can't attend it (CTTA decides whether to allow him to join). WTT tournaments are famous for their expensive tickets, small price money, tightly arranged schedule and lack of protection for athletes. Athletes are reduced to tools to make money for WTT, which is Modern Slavery! Fan ZhenDong is fighting agaist injustice at the cost of his career. He stood up to speak out about the unfair treatment & awful experience of all athletes. He still wants to play Ping Pang, but with deserved respect from tournament organizer, not like a gladiator on the colosseum fighting ground.
A top player to ITTF is like a top singer to a Record Company, at the end of the day, they are tools for making money, they don't care if you are tired, sick or injured...
In comparison to other sports like soccer, tennis, rugby etc, this beautiful game of table tennis does not even feature when it comes to remuneration. Maybe the players who do this for a living will consider playing each and every international event, if the prize monies associated with the sport sees a drastic change for the good.
An unfair rule by ittf and wtt, which caused the two great Olympic champions, Fan Zhendong and Chen Meng, to no longer participate in the competition, and this will definitely damage the attractiveness of the competition and its prestige, in the hope of the return of the great Fan Zhendong, who is always a fan. He has been to international competitions
Are u kidding me , there is actually no way a CHAMPION at his peak now is retiring I got learned about him not for too long I analyze him learn from him and motivated to start training serious watching him , I use his 3rd ball serves , its been barely any hears , even ma long who played 9 more years is retiring at same age this is so doomed, now butterfly will lose money because fzd series will lose lot of money ,
Not necessarily the rules of the game but the rules in relation to competing and how ranking points is awarded and determined, those rules have been drastically adjusted over the past few years. The issue this now creates is that a player who comes from affluent upbringing can and will compete in all major tournaments to rack up points and as a result of point allocation and the weight certain ITTF and WTT tournaments carry, they can b come the best, not because they are but because they can accumulate enuf points.
if one thinks the rules are punitive then why only two players being olympic champions, at that no less decided to challenge the rules through very drastic action of resignation . Does not seem logical and rational at all
@@shannontan5893 The two olympic champions already achieved their fame and can now earn easy money through commercial and social engagement, brand ambassador, modelling, event management etc🤑 rather than practising for hours and keeping strict diet to prepare for world tournaments🥱.
@shannontan5893 we're all spectators standing on the sidelines and trying to make sense of things, but it's not fair to state that FZ's actions seems irrational or even too drastic. Firstly, Table Tennis in China has a political motivation that we're not privy to. As individuals we're only accountable to our conscience and our moral deliberation. FZ must have good reason for his decision and to call it drastic or irrational is a bit judgmental. What I will say, is it's a darn shame that we won't witness FZ's undoubtedly unmatched playing on the WTT and ITTF platforms anymore.
WTT's philosophy seems be: 'the sponsors are first, and everyone and anything are a distance second.' They care nothing about the players and their well-being, much less the fans. Take for example that ridiculous high camera angle side view that they have implemented, just to show clearer the sponsors' logo, and in the process; they have destroyed the dynamics of sport with that high camera angle, stupidly pointing down on the table. Also They have fine Quadri Aruna $5,000, which he has appealed. When the most important commodities, the players and fans are not happy, you know something is wrong.
😢 Ma Long getting retairing, and Fan Zhendong is a champion, we're losing maybe a biggest TITANS of Ping Pong in history, they'll be missing, it's like MJ in basketball, they've should react abaut this .

Would be interesting if a rival table tennis tournament can be set up like the proposed Unify League in football (previously known as the European Super League).
I guess that he will continue to play in the Chinese competitions with other team mates like Xu Xin and many others at any pace he wants where he will be more happier😅.
The same conversation is going on in Formula one racing right now. To many races in a year so they can make more money but it puts to much strain on drivers, teams and families.
For the sake of sport, every atlelet should have freedome to chose tournament he want. Its a new era of slavery in ping pong, and tennis table assosiate make TT athelete becoming employee.
FZD just showed how big he is, for a long time lot of people are talking in close circles how WTT is ruining table tennis, last year or so even players started to talk openly, that is confirmation of disaster
I agree you say that WTT new rules concentrate more of making money than to develop this game. Support Fan Zhendong, he is still in China national team, not retired, only stops WTT machts.
Liu GuoLiang is a senior official in both the WTT and ITTF. I wonder why he didn't protest. Or maybe he wants this ridiculous new fines. The fine is proportional to the world ranking. Top 20 WR players are fines USD5000 for every tournament they skip. And they are required to play in all WTT smash, WTT champions and WTT Grand Contender. But that's not the only issue. It is also about the insane timings of the tournaments and how closely spaced they are. For e.g., the Singapore Smash starts on Jan 30th. Chinese New Year, the most important festival for the chinese and which is often the only time one can see their families starts on Jan 29th. That is insane. I was originally thinking of flying down to Singapore to watch the competition but with the stupid timing, not any more ! Then, how many tournaments were in this month ?
@@hkbrightshadow4225 Some people may not dare say it but as an overseas chinese looking inwards into China, I -will- say it. Liu GuoLiang has gone on record praising his two favourite players but let's make it clear. ShaSha is FAR from being the top players she is hyped up to be. Remember in the recently concluded Asian TT Competition (October 2024), both Chen Meng and Wang ManYu did not compete and ShaSha was entrust to supposedly bring glory for the country but she failed miserably. There, I have said it. Miserably. Firstly she lost matches and failed to retain the womens team title, losing to Japan. Then in the women's single she was completely outclassed by North Korea's Kim Gum Yong, she didn't even make it to the top four !!!! While Wang ChuQin did lead the mens team to their teams title, he himself was bundled out in the men's singles resulting in Lin ShiDong having to take over and eventually ended up runners up. In that competition, China was clear 2nd and took only 2 gold medals, against Japan's 3. Even in the Mixed teams championship a short while later, ShaSha was consistently losing games (though not matches) even in the Mixed Doubles with Wang ChuQin. It was really Wang ManYu who more than once led China through with her unbeaten (did not lose a game) record. ShaSha is far from being the dominant player she is hyped up to be. Wang ManYu was playing with the handicap of not having a dedicated coach. She only got her dedicated coach during the Mixed Teams championship. So eventhough the talk is how ShaSha is strongest player in the women's team, it remain to be seen and proven, esp when Wang ManYu settles down with her new coach. Wang ChuQin is a much better bet eventhough, and by his own admission, he did not perform to expectations since the Paris Olympics. It remains to be seen if he can fend off the challenges of Harimoto, Lin Yun-Ju, and the Lebrun brothers consistenly in the future. Or even against compatriot Lin ShiDong.
Fan Zhendong & Cheng Meng have followed the rules without complaining. I do not think the other players want to boost their rankings in this manner. Soon we might see team and country delegates attempting disqualification of opponents based on some rules. WTT has to figure out how to be fair and keep the level of the game/tournament, at the same time. Let's not be "slaves to the written word".
@@nazar_zen generally, he certainly is, but as we have seen recently, felix lebrun can beat him, as of that i dont see why china should not dominate the sport, I still consider that wang chuqin, liang, lin, and blub blub are still way beyond european average level, sadly
I think he is right. The rules should be equally fair to the players and fans. If someone'd withdraw in the 11th hour without a clear reason then I'd accept the ban. But If the schedules are too demanding or contradicting then it is a good call. I'm highly disappointed,, without him and Sister Chen table tennis is not complete
An athlete is also human; they may experience injuries, family emergencies, or other personal issues. Why must they attend every competition? They are not gladiators from the Roman era; this is the modern age.
I always thought when they started stopping speed glue and then changing from 22 to 11 and changing the ball they were going to start promoting TT properly but it’s just gone nowhere. Like you said I think they’re just interested and n filling their own pockets NOT promoting the sport to grow Good move by fan
Is it a protest against wtt or against ctta (who determines the tournaments that Chinese players go to)? In any event, this (plus ML retiring) will severely hurt team China. Maybe some other team can win now. But FZD could still play in Olympics just like the North Koreans
If a top 32-player CHOOSES not to participate, eventually he won't be ranked. So, there's no need to fine or impose a penalty with the stigma that he had done something wrong, unsporting, unfair or worse. Encourage participation through incentives (the carrot), not the stick.
World Cup, World Championships and Olympics are opened to all countries. Those without ranking like North Korea have to compete in qualifying draw first.
There is so much ridiculous ITTF penalties in the system. More top players should retire early. ITTF thinks the system gives low rank players chance to go up, even top player can't stand this system, they think low rank players can?
From WTT’s perspective, if every top player chooses not to participate in WTT matches, it significantly impacts their ability to generate revenue. Without sufficient income, WTT would struggle to support the ecosystem that sustains players, especially those from countries where athletes bear most of the expenses for participating in WTT matches. For these players, the lack of sustainable earnings could hinder their ability to afford training and competition, ultimately reducing the global reach of table tennis. This could put the sport at risk of losing its status in international competitions. On the other hand, I think WTT's current rules are too stringent. They should prioritize players’ well-being and health. The sheer number and frequency of competitions are overwhelming. WTT should either reduce the total number of events or allow players to be excused from 30%-50% of the competitions without penalties. Striking a balance between maintaining competitive integrity and safeguarding players’ health is essential for the benefits of both WTT and players.
The truth is, they were forced out by Liu Guoliang. They were unfairly treated by the Chinese National Team. Fan was not given the same spar partners, fitness help, medical help and other resources the few years before the Olympics. Those resources all went to WCQ and SunYS. LGL favoured them since they could give LGL and coaches more Ads revenues. Wang Liqin and the Shanghai team had been the ones giving Fan the resources for now. LGL wanted to retire Fan early. Fan had no intention of doing that. Fan said so in an interview that he is still in his prime. He had no intention of leaving the Table Tennis scene. In that case Fan and Chen M should just play for other countries. Or else their career is over.
agreed and very sad, he is so talented, yet being treated like this, so unfair, he is so brave to speak up for the rest of the players, risking his career, so man! Respect, hope to see him back on the international games!

I doubt Adam Bobrow will comment, he's paid by the WTT...
@@TableTennisMedia This. The system's broken and the few people that do have a voice, don't dare to speak up at all.
Fines for not participating, that's ridiculous! Period.
He set an example, I hope more follow and perhaps changes could be made for 2026.
PERIOD!!!
It's really a pity. I hope changes in WTT politics within some time and Fan Zhendong be back.
So sad to know that Fandz, one of the best players, has withdrawn due to an unfair system.
Hope WTT/ITTF will change something to make FZD return. He still is the world's best player currently.

The money fines are updated
Fan is my favorite player.
I'm so sad for FZD
@dongiovanni8899 Huh? They have played so many matches (FAn, Ma, Xu, and others).
@dongiovanni8899 They already studied over 10 years now but still keep losing to Fan 🤣
What a shame! What a stupid rule that makes one of the greatest players quit! I cannot agree!!
It is the saddest news of 2024.
No, the saddest news is that 2025 will be here in a few more days AND I am still here.
Ok, I'm shocked, speechless... We lose the current best player (still better than LSD and WCQ). Not seeing him for months after the Olympics was an alert and I was afraid a would retire. Now, we see the result of these fines and pressure on the players.
"Still better than LSD and WCQ." What is this based on? A single match lately?
@@carlpeterkirkebo2036 Absolutely, taking into account he smashed them whereas he had taken a 3+ month rest after the Olympics. What, you would wreck the three of them? 🤣🤣🤣
@carlpeterkirkebo2036 in last Chinese Table Tennis Super League, Fan Zhendong easily defeated these two players
@@carlpeterkirkebo2036 I doubt LSD will ever be on FZD level but I do believe WCQ can be, but for now FZD is the best table tennis in the world.

I was planning to go to a WTT in Germany last november until I saw the tickets were 90+ euro.. absolutely stupid prices
It's so very sad.
He can make money in leagues… wtt isnt the only game in town
He is one of the best players ❤ Compliments to FZD for his courage and dedication

Are u kidding me , there is actually no way a CHAMPION at his peak now is retiring I got learned about him not for too long I analyze him learn from him and motivated to start training serious watching him , I use his 3rd ball serves , its been barely any hears , even ma long who played 9 more years is retiring at same age this is so doomed, now butterfly will lose money because fzd series will lose lot of money ,
very good video
i think it is not that simplistic as it seen to be as the rules are not new and have been established for a rather long time
Not necessarily the rules of the game but the rules in relation to competing and how ranking points is awarded and determined, those rules have been drastically adjusted over the past few years. The issue this now creates is that a player who comes from affluent upbringing can and will compete in all major tournaments to rack up points and as a result of point allocation and the weight certain ITTF and WTT tournaments carry, they can b come the best, not because they are but because they can accumulate enuf points.
the rules for fines are updated
if one thinks the rules are punitive then why only two players being olympic champions, at that no less decided to challenge the rules through very drastic action of resignation .
Harimoto and LYJ will miss him the most.

Wtt has destroyed table tennis
ITTF push the proffesional player too hard.
Best decision! Enough is enough
WTT's philosophy seems be: 'the sponsors are first, and everyone and anything are a distance second.'
They care nothing about the players and their well-being, much less the fans.

Eu me lembro muito bem ❤

Would be interesting if a rival table tennis tournament can be set up like the proposed Unify League in football (previously known as the European Super League).
Is it also the reason why he and Chen Meng didn't play for the last 6 months?
So sad, I didn't know this. It happens to many sports. How many complaints have you heard about FIFA and UEFA too?

I guess that he will continue to play in the Chinese competitions with other team mates like Xu Xin and many others at any pace he wants where he will be more happier😅.
FZD got my full support. Totaly agreed! At least let that players 26+ to choose tournament or if they have injuries
The same conversation is going on in Formula one racing right now. To many races in a year so they can make more money but it puts to much strain on drivers, teams and families.
Fiquei muito triste quando soube 😢
Grande perda para o tênis de mesa mundial.
He just wants his sponsored players wcq and sys to win the big tournaments. Liu GuoLiang should be put to jail
He should be coming back in at least local leagues. Also coach pls suggest racket setup under 60 pounds including assembly cost 10 pounds
He is protesting the crappy horizontal camera angle!!!
Without Fan, Chinese table tennis team has no dominance. Actually it’s very like the Chinese team won’t win Gold when it matters most.
lin sidong won't let it happen, he is above any EU player
@@nazar_zen generally, he certainly is, but as we have seen recently, felix lebrun can beat him, as of that i dont see why china should not dominate the sport, I still consider that wang chuqin, liang, lin, and blub blub are still way beyond european average level, sadly
China is a so deep someone will step up
participation in WTT is not a requirement to enter World Cup, World Championships and Olympics. North Korea participates in big competitions only.
I think he is right. The rules should be equally fair to the players and fans. If someone'd withdraw in the 11th hour without a clear reason then I'd accept the ban. But If the schedules are too demanding or contradicting then it is a good call. I'm highly disappointed,, without him and Sister Chen table tennis is not complete
btw Where is the solidarity of the other players, especially the European ones?
An athlete is also human; they may experience injuries, family emergencies, or other personal issues. Why must they attend every competition? They are not gladiators from the Roman era; this is the modern age.
Can he restart to play if the rukes change as he wants?
This is the worst news ever. MY BEST AND PERSONAL NUMBER ONE PLAYER. FAN? LEAVING? WTT IS OBVIOUSLY DOING SOMETHING VERY WRONG. I'M HEARTBROKEN.
Does it mean he won't play at the 2025 world championship ?
Exactly :(
he can but since his ranking points is now zero, he has to compete in qualifying draw like North Koreans
@dongiovanni8899 no sense for fzd, but you 're right
I always thought when they started stopping speed glue and then changing from 22 to 11 and changing the ball they were going to start promoting TT properly but it’s just gone nowhere. Like you said I think they’re just interested and n filling their own pockets NOT promoting the sport to grow
Good move by fan
Is it a protest against wtt or against ctta (who determines the tournaments that Chinese players go to)? In any event, this (plus ML retiring) will severely hurt team China. Maybe some other team can win now. But FZD could still play in Olympics just like the North Koreans
If a top 32-player CHOOSES not to participate, eventually he won't be ranked. So, there's no need to fine or impose a penalty with the stigma that he had done something wrong, unsporting, unfair or worse. Encourage participation through incentives (the carrot), not the stick.
FZD! The bravest warrior! The best table tennis player!!!!
He not retire!!!
FZD backhand is monster
There is a similar protest in the Badminton World Federation (BWF). I hope both federations will reconsider and withdraw these pointless rules!
All players should go on strike for Fan ,I know I will by not watching ….. ❤Fan Zhendong😢
Is an international Comeback possible?
World Cup, World Championships and Olympics are opened to all countries. Those without ranking like North Korea have to compete in qualifying draw first.
The cnt coach team wants that and give chances to their sponsored players
btw Chen Meng also retired
WTT and ITTF should loosen those strict rules, allow more diverse players to join, and introduce the AI camera
The Chinese top players should participate more in ITF tournaments, this is the right thing for everyone.
We need more waldner cup and less wtt matches
Without Fan Zhendong I have no reason to keep following this table tennis game
Fan zhendong & Chen meng has announced they will quit the WTT!
There is so much ridiculous ITTF penalties in the system. More top players should retire early. ITTF thinks the system gives low rank players chance to go up, even top player can't stand this system, they think low rank players can?
Sad to see this. Amazing player.
There must be something wrong with the rules of ITTF. I really miss him ☹️😞😟. He is❤ one of the best players !❤
FZD is the best, I miss him 😢
