Somebody once said that when you buy a PRS Guitar you are not buying a musical instrument. You are opening up a subscription. I have to agree. After buying an S2 recently I was so amazed by the whole thing I then bought 3 others. Amazing stuff.
PRS Guitars have always been serious works of art! Private Stock is ridiculous... These guitars sound and play amazing, but they freak me out! I have a hard time thinking of them as “tools /instruments”. Too precious.
I'm not a prs guy, but I have tremendous respect for Paul and the gang. And the graveyard... God... It's one of the most beautiful guitars I've ever seen. That neck is glorious... Cheers
It was very run and gun in the factory, not a lot of time to setup shots and we didn't want to disrupt production! We will work on the shots a little better next time!
There’s nothing wrong with that! If you can do it, awesome. The nice thing to me is that the core, and even the other ranges are always so great looking and sounding, that it’s possible to have a stunner without spending private stock money. My DGT was a non 10 top, in the usual old vintage sunburst, and I don’t know how it was graded because it looked like the best flame maple top they could have used. Just save your pennies for awhile, and then check for your favorite model used, and you can get a good deal.
Could you imagine someone buying one of these absolutely stunning guitars and then asking for it to be reliced. Those artisans would take him out back and relic his face.
I am able and fortunate enough to have a perfect SUHR Buckeye burl modern with Limba back, roasted AAA Birdseye maple neck and Cocobolo board, a GIBSON Standard Historic 1959 Les Paul, a TAYLOR K24-CE Koa acoustic with a AAA top and a work horse WARMOUTH I made kind of like a 3-tone Stevie strat with custom Duncan (Texas flood style) pickups and all the good stuff but I do not feel like I have assembled my dream quiver yet until I have a PRS Private stock. It just may be the one I seek known as The Axecaliber. Forged from the good folks at Wonkaville/PRS here to bring peace and good will to all men.

I would love to see a private stock Mark Tremonti signature with a one piece quilted top and solid mahogany back, eastern rose wood neck, ebony fret board. Done with a custom aquamarine in the center fading to a charcoal burst around the edges.
Paul signed a big PRS poster for me in '90 when I was selling the crap out of his fairly unknown at the time guitars when $1400 bought a ten-top hand signed Custom 24. ($100 spiff to me for every sale) That's the closest I'd ever get to owning one. 🎸
I paid huge money for one sold it , just sounded great unplugged but in any amp it was not so good , even swapped pups still , just gorgeous to look at and play unplugged . It was a 2013 DGT Private Stock DGT totally exotic and Wild West guitars hand selected the woods .
Some of these guitars are jaw droppingly beautiful. The buckeye burl especially looks like it is carved from stone! Unreal! There are some very happy doctors and lawyers out there while us musicians rip it up on our GIBSONs. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Brett hello. The woods are all graded when they come in and the best of the best makes it into private stock. This is done through both sonic qualities and of course the visual splendor. We spent a while baking on neck blocks hearing the different tones they created, that was my favorite part:)

Unfortunately you will probably have to extend your trip by about 13 months...:( That is the typical lead time we need with any core pieces. Sometimes 8 months if you get lucky but otherwise, the long wait begins.

I'v tryed a lot of prs's over the years... The necks are in general to small and narrow for my hands... I prefer large nut width and a slim still neck... Hope that makes sence... 🤘😉
I have high end Gibson guitars 2006 both of them you would figure that after 14 years the necks would settle down and stay in tune Les Paul custom and Firebird vii my 93 prs custom 24 top ten stays in tune always bought Rickenbacker bass and guitar 330 necks won’t stay straight 2008 and 2014

Honestly it is a bit frustrating to see that you had the immense chance to have a full visit of PRS factory but the video capture doesn’t do justice to the gorgeous guitars you tried to show us... the cam is always out of focus...
Yea I hear ya, we didn't want to disrupt production and had to shoot run and gun. Not a lot of time to setup to get really tight shots. Will work on that for the next run!

Does anybody worry about the tone that these wood combinations could deliver? Seems to me that all the focus is on appearance. For a guitar that is likely to cost 10 grand or more, I'd like someone to tell me what the expected tone from a combination of a black limba body and a roasted maple neck would be. Oh well, whoever buys a museum piece like this is probably not going to play it much anyway.
@@raultrujillo7750 Don't get me wrong, I love PRS for many things. But at that price point, I would have hoped that tone would be at least one of the considerations. That said, the PRS tone is not my favorite, with the exception of the S2 Mira semi-hollow. My opinion is that they lack a certain fatness. Then again, opinions are like....well...you know the rest!
They do spend quite a bit of time trying to match up the tone woods once you select the pieces. But you do speak the truth and the first thing anyone building a private stock usually goes for is the prettiest most striking piece of wood they can find. Its the team at PRS's job to help guide and sculpt your choices if they feel the woods used for the body, top, and neck are not matching up properly. One of the ones I put together was gorgeous...but they informed me it would most likely sound extremely dead and thin with the combos I had chosen. I wouldn't even care if they had to pick the plainest piece of wood, as long as its a perfectly dried and cured piece and sounds incredibly when you tap it. Quite honestly, for what I play, I can't think of a better combination than the hollowbody spruce top - nice mahogany back and neck, spruce top and rosewood board. Nothing fancy, but that soft, fat tone is perfect for jazz and and blues. I might go redwood top instead, but I already have that combo, and let me tell you - that is a magic combo of woods! This folks is the apex of guitar building ... these are $13-$20K guitars that actually look, feel and sound like $13-20K guitars.. Once you've played one, you're spoiled and ruined... nothing else will do.
Its the player what turns a piece of wood into a million dollar iconic guitar. ..Hendrix, Gilmour to name a few. These so called $10-20k guitars pop up in Reverb, Offer up, Ebay because these Dentists, Doctors etc cannot do anything else with it other than play here and there and not do anything in music History once they realize the guitar is not needed anymore. I have played many of these high end rarities and not they are not all that in terms of sound and playing.
@@EM-km8em ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY .. don't disagree one bit... 95% player, 4% guitar setup, 1% guitar woods/workmanship... but that does not mean I don't desire and covet playing one of those fine guitars... to help me get that extra 1%.. And they're fucking nice to touch and look at too, as a bonus.

SriniP Regardless of the “tonewood”, PRS guitars have always had a wonderfully clear tone that actually stands up to their price point.

These so called $10-20k guitars pop up in Reverb, Offer up, Ebay because these Dentists, Doctors etc cannot do anything else with it other than play here and there and not do anything in music History once they realize the guitar is not needed anymore.
I have played many of these high end rarities and not they are not all that in terms of sound and playing.
@@EM-km8em ABSO-FUCKING-LUTELY .. don't disagree one bit... 95% player, 4% guitar setup, 1% guitar woods/workmanship... but that does not mean I don't desire and covet playing one of those fine guitars... to help me get that extra 1%.. And they're fucking nice to touch and look at too, as a bonus.
