I have been roller skating for 30 years. I have lived in a few States: Colorado (mostly raised), Kentucky, and Alabama. I am a (Black American) USAF Veteran so I have lived in New Mexico, another location, and now I live in the UK for 7 years (no residency) which I will stay one more year here (preparing and building my next career). And then I will move and travel and/or live in different States and countries again with my next career. And continue roller skating in different locations.
You guys are the freaking king and queen of black life. Extremely professional. I will add you to my 1st of the monthly patreon draft so you can keep up the great work
#3 The People’s Rink is my regular rink. The rink just has their floor sanded and refinished. It is absolutely beautiful!! I would recommend visiting it!
Wow, that's crazy that The Rink in Chicago didn't make this list. It has been black owned for 50+ years. And is home to the globally respected skate style known as JB. It was black owned in a era where there were no black owned rinks in the country. Play Mor in Cleveland is another significant Black Owned Rink.
This is Dope! Thanks for the enlighnments🥰 Anxiously awaiting the sequel…hoping to see “The Rink” - Chicago, IL., among all this awesomeness as well…Love & Bliss💕🦋🛼✨
So happy to see you post this video about roller skating. As a life-long skater from The Bronx I have seen it go down and come all the way back up. This video is an EXCELLENT example of what happens when black owners step up. You left a few of them out such as Da Dome in Brooklyn but overall this is fantastic BE. Do a follow-up on black owned skate BUSINESS owners!!
@@GenerationfleX897 that was one of my homes in The Bronx! Stars (not so great music wise) and Skating Palace (now News12Bronx lol) and Skate Fever were also Bronx faves of mine! You know they do reunions 2-3x a year for the Key
Great video! Thank you for making this. I'm late in watching. Just to add a few to your list for part 2 and the skate family: -Star Rink - Racine, WI (Lesser known, but I had a great time here) -The Rink Fitness Factory - Chicago proper ( I think this one was mentioned by others) -Canton Skateland - Canton IL (Lesser known, but I had a great time here) -Great Skate - Roseville, MI (I'm pretty sure this is owned by AA) -Skate City, East St. Louis, IL (I think still owned by Larry Wise) -Golden Glide - Atlanta, GA (You already mentioned Cascade) Greg Alexander was a New Yorker who moved to Atlanta and started with Golden Glide. Then he built on his success with Cascade. A lot of people don't know about GG or have forgotten it's the older sibling rink. For the purist, homage should be given to GG first, then hit Casc.
Why does it matter what color the people are. I'm a 45 yo dude that jam skates weekly. The best part about the rink is NOBODY SEES AGE OR COLOR. I JAM OUT WITH THE 20YO BLACK GUYS, IT DO NOT MATTER! I WISH PROSPERITY AND SUCCESS TO EVERYONE! MUCH LOVE
We use to have our family reunion 🫂 ❤ in places like this and they also had bowling 🎳 and a eating area! that was in 1970 and 1980 when we also had inside malls. 😳👏☺
Very nice! Also, "Skate King" in St. Louis, Missouri is a popular Black owned and operated roller skating facility. Possibly a landmark after having been in business nearly 70+ years.
Mayweather just brought an old staking rink out in Vegas but he hasn't done any upgrades to it...and it needs major work or made it feel safer than what it wasn't already.
Wow! 😢🙂 I remember everybody in the city would go to the skating rink and some people would be skating with them Sheepskin coats on, straight hot lol. Because they wouldn't fit in them lockers or they didn't want to keep them in the stolen car outside
Yeah, I'm saddened that Lakeshore didn't survive. It was a great one, but the rink owner was looking for the right buyer for years prior. As early as 2016.
We like the video but you missed out on alot Black owned skating rink Lock wood Skating Palace is very last black own original skating rink in Texas since early 80's plus our closest friends in Chicago who own The Rink we original Black owned skating rink we love the video need a lot more Black owned rinks again I like the video
We try our best to cover as many as we can and can’t cover everyone in one video. We will have a followup and are using the comments to help identify more Black Owned rinks because due to lack of media coverage, it’s not easy to identify black rinks just through Google and Yelp. Thanks for alerting us. ✊🏽
Thank you for bringing to our attention. Didn’t know but will definitely make a followup and add. It looks awesome. But I still preferred to give the lesser/known owners these first 10 spots.
@@BlackExcellist am I telling the truth though? But what's worse is that we invite them in! What the hell is wrong with us? Do we just have to be down with our oppressors?? Bump that! I'm sorry that💩 just pisses me off. I have to stop now. Because I don't want to get started.☺

Thank you for not letting racist comments in the comment section. Because they hate to see black people enjoying life and being together happy.
Just for the record, our Admins stay on point and we have zero tolerance for hate & ignorance.
Didn’t know about the spot in Buffalo, but I’m not surprised. Same for the spot in Rochester.
I love it. Great video
