Three grown brothers eke out an existence in rural Scotland, a place of both hard knocks and austere beauty. Living with no parents in a milieu populated with drugs, poverty and flashes of vivid and intense violence, theirs is a bleak life together. But the brothers do their best to look after one another despite their world of deprivation, bonded through love and squalor.
Their cloistered existence, however, is interrupted when a teenage girl, bloodied and beaten, turns up at their house. What the brothers choose to do both disrupts their collective self-containment and sends them on a series of destructive choices that threatens their very survival.
Director Jonny Blair has crafted a remarkable thriller that is both explosively paced and exquisitely acted, drawing in viewers not only through remarkably dynamic dramatic tension but compelling characters.
Captured with agile naturalistic camerawork, the drama is exciting and gripping, but the film also works as a group character portrait, examining the dynamics among three brothers who love and are fiercely loyal to one another, but also capable of destruction and danger, not only in the world but with themselves and one another.
There's no question of their love for each other, and their scenes together are crafted with genuine intimacy and honesty. Despite their questionable morals and decisions, it's this love that will make viewers engage and even hope for their redemption, as bleak as things may seem.
At 30 minutes, COME OUT OF THE WOODS is on the longer side of a short, but as the plot races forward, it certainly feels shorter than it is. What a horribly sad movie!! I can't help but wonder who's going to take care of him now. This was such a great short. So many emotions.
My heart just got dashed. The 2 brothers' love for their youngest brother, their memories of their home, the bad cop winning in the end, everything was a whirlwind of emotions.
Sadly this plays on reality, how bad people win, and good people lose. Not all the time, but most of the time.

He was a good cop in the end, he knew the older brothers were scum. It's too bad he didn't take Mike to social services in the end. It's clear he has an intellectual disability.

This film is as black as a night without stars. The performances are fantastic all around. This is very well made, too. Did the cop hurt his daughter before the brother found her? This would explain her expression upon waking in the back of his car: she did not escape. And the cop told the weakest brother that she was left for dead to convince him to kill his brothers and plant the idea of her death in order to cover up what he is going to do next namely, kill her himself. Ice cold and thoroughly believable. Brutal. Thank you.
Yes, minus the daughters "reaction" part... We could use our imaginations to fill in the dots of her completely unaddressed source of sufferage! Her role in this storyline is the least measurable, and it's appropriate that her character is literally voiceless... she's insignificant.

The two brothers did leave her for dead in the woods. They were supposed to bring her to the cops in exchange for $5,000.
Instead they left her and beat the cop and took the money.

Looking to make a fast buck and not caring about the pain of others. That is what it got them. Their poor brother. He is left all alone in that mess.
That cop was just as bad.
The cop/dad was the worst. He nearly assaulted his daughter to death then lied to the one brother and then left him for dead after he killed his brothers. The girl's face in the end was horrified because she didn't end up getting away from her monster dad.

This has conceivable elements that make it feel as if it could be based on a true story! Excellent all around!
I almost didn't finish it... it was the first time in a long time I felt repeatedly uncomfortable watching a fictional story.
This short deserves an A+ in all categories! This one speaks volumes.

It brings perspective to a world filled with corruption, greed, crime and how a lot of people who do wrong get good things and vice versa.
Someone tell Johnny Blair how awesome this is. Really enjoyed watching this fro, the moment the opening scene hooked me.

im so hooked by this i wish they made it into a TV show i need to know what happened after but i guess it's better to end this way...anyway i didn't realise he's Joe Dempsie..i remember him from skins thats why i felt like he looked familiar and don't get me started on Nico's acting...such phenomenal performance..very on point. everyone who work on this did a great job

I came across Omeleto short movies by accident. I believe they only show award winning movies. I have been binge watching Omeleto now for almost a week & there are still plenty to watch. All of them except for a few are in my opinion at least 8/10.

Tried to frame the brother and when it back fired he is somehow justified because they didnt take her to the hospital? He called the ambulance and left the phone at least they didnt just abandon her

Not really related to the film above but... does anyone know the time range of a short film? Most I have seen are 10-20 min, but this one here is just over 30 and I have seen a few that are only 7-8 minutes.
it's typically any cinematic or animation that does not abide to normal movie standards. Usually less watch time than a single episode of a series but can reach past forty five minutes in length where is is debatable whether it's really a short or just an indie movie.
i love this so much and the actors can portray emotions so well! But i don't quite understand this whole killing, crying thing etc? Could someone explain to me what this film is meant to be about? I read the desc btw but didn't understand.
The yound k8d Nico 8s such a 5alented actor. Ive sen quite alot of his Work including his work on soaps like Hollyoaks and Doctors. To his him being in movies like Spike Island abou5 the Famous Stone Roses gig back at beginning of the 90's.

Alex Gere me too as I have two and they are the most loving little things with the best possible life I can give them I saw them and I had to get them before some random person who wouldn’t give them a life and possible cruelty I know while they are with me they are safe they adore my 13yr old son and my daughter who is 12yrs old today the kids sit in the garden with them to make sure nothing can harm them the same as I do I have 3 rescued injured pigeons who are now thankfully healed and a beautiful Belgium malinios dog I absolutely love animals I will not see any harm come to any as long as I can help it 🙂all my animals have the best possible life I can give them and I know they are safe with me and not being abused to be honest it did look real though poor baby ☹️

Yes but not everyone eats the same thing as everyone else of course some people eat it but I choose to have them as pets and love and care for them but if you eat them that’s ok that’s your choice everyone has there rights to eat what they like 😊I just choose not to 😊
