idk why watching Elyse brings me so much peace but it really does. I just feel good knowing that there is someone else in the world doing and thinking similar things to myself but having the courage to share it and do it in the coolest way. She probably doesn't feel like a rockstar, but Elyse is my favorite celebrity.
1. I sported the Elyse double roll today, I always think that whenever I roll my sleeves back now. 2. I played 2nd violin and then later 1st violin in high school, and then back to 2nd violin in college. Honestly, 2nd was better. At first I wanted to be 1st, just because it seemed cool and a bragging right... but 2nd was much more enjoyable. I'll just chill over here playing harmonies and not needing to hit notes that are right next to my face and off the charts. So while I never played the viola, I 100% agreed with everything you said on that tangent. 3. That sweatshirt needs to be added to your merch line.
There are stores that have entire aisles of... Drawer nobs. And there is noone stopping me from buying 1 of each and swapping them out whenever I want! It's my latest obsession. My favorite drawer to showcase them on is full of them. Nothing else😂
What’s the point if you don’t buy ALL the yarn?? Also: clearance/sale yarn and the running out of said yarn is what leads to bulk yarn buying in the first place. You find one for a project and then “WHAT IF IT RUNS OUT I’LL BUY THE LOT”, and now your brain will justify those purchases from now on because Joann’s did in fact, run out. 😂
When you said that you already balked at buying strings for yourself, I felt that hard. If my wife suggests buying something expensive to me I‘m pretty much instantly like „of course we should get that for you“ but even the tiniest purchase for me and I get really nervous about it like she‘s going to be mad at me for wanting something we don’t NEED… also, you would love libraries in Europe. Our library in Stuttgart has musical instruments that you can check out like books to see if you like them. It’s so much fun!
Get the banjo! My brother plays and he is amazing. They can get quite expensive, so I recommend getting a used one to start out. I also recommend learning clawhammer as opposed to three finger style because it is less played and like the underdog of banjo playing styles, and it sounds so so cool. Nylgut strings have a very cool, old sound as opposed to the twangy sound, so I think you will like nylgut. Oh! And where you said you wished you knew how clothes looked on you, I have a similar problem, and have been considering buying/making a custom dress form so I know how shirts look on me and also so I can start making clothes (yet another new project that I don't have time for right now, haha). So I think if you make or buy a dress form that will help you with clothes shopping and making! P.S. There are SO many free pianos in the world. Get one of those. You usually just have to pay for the movers. We did that 2 years ago, and it only cost us $400.
Yes! We did this too. After we bought our house, my parents' neighbors were looking to offload their piano, so we just had to rent a moving truck. It's a really nice piano and I couldn't believe we got it for free. A few years later we inherited a baby grand, and so that first piano was moved to my brother's house and is still in the family.
Elyse, what kind of banjo are you considering? My dad grew up playing the 4-string in a banjo band, so I love the ragtime/jazz sound of the 4-string vs a 5-string or tenor banjo
I love hearing you talk about your viola playing days! Being such an introvert my whole life, I was always comfortable playing the supporting parts of music as a member of the humble viola section.
1.) Dietze is awesome! I take all my instruments there. The store at 132nd and Center, in my opinion, has way better selection. 2.) You should try D’addario’s nickel wound strings! I received a banjo for Christmas last year with the full intention of learning how to play it, but I have absolutely no musical talent what so ever. I just love it so much. Hoping one of my children will pick it up.
Oh I so agree about going into treble clef on the viola! The first time I played in my college orchestra on viola it was Rachmaninoff's 2nd piano concerto (which is a gorgeous piece, I love it...) which also has LOVELY solos for the viola section - delicious. Except it goes into treble clef on the first page and I had JUST LEARNED the alto clef (because I'm a violinist) and my brain was like "no, no, no..." I didn't play the right notes then, but learned them eventually...
Do the sleeves of your crocheting project the tan color you have going on. Then, where it splits in the middle, do one row of tan around it. Make it a sweater shawl. A shawl with sleeves!

Elyse, I completely understand what you mean about going into a music store, it just makes you happy. I’ll be in there and contemplating instruments I have no idea how to play and suddenly I’ll want to buy another guitar that I don’t need or pick up a harmonica. Music stores are magical places❤🎸🥁🎹.

I felt the same way about piano lessons, scales! Noooo. Let me play music...I also have been rolling my sweatshirt sleeves up since I was in high school, I graduated in 1985... lol. Most of my sleeves can only be worn that way at this point..🤷♀️ oh well. 🙂
elyse that's how I feel about the flute! so so difficult to dream. I just bought a shitty little guitar for exactly that reason, and I'm so excited. you can't just vibe on a flute. I would love to just vibe.
I love your videos showcasing how your mind goes from one hyper fixation to the next because it is so freaking relatable!! I've recently discovered I'm audhd, didn't know that was a thing. I've always known I have ADHD but some people make me feel like I'm not ADHD "enough". I recently found out I also have autism and a lot of the symptoms from each cancel each other out in a way. Now i also feel like I'm not autistic "enough" lol so that's fun. Your personality and the way you relate to yourself and others makes me feel like I have a kindred spirit ❤
omg when you talked about how the corn field is like an ocean it immediately made me think about a sonet by one of legendary polish writers, adam mickiewicz. the sonet is called "stepy akermańskie" ("The Akkerman Steppe") and there he also compares a grassy field to an ocean. so no, it's not stupid. and it's a beautiful poem btw.
Today I stitched a patch onto my canvas tote while being a passenger and stuck in traffic. I happened to have had a hand-sewing kit on me and was able to blanket stitch around to secure it in about 10 minutes. :)
I stickered the inside if my van. So fun and then i get to see them, unlike a bunper sticker. Also keeps my vehicle more random and unrecognizablw in a oarking lot. I had to get a new van ans all my cool stuckers are gone now so time to start anew.

😮 banjo? Banjo! BANJO! BANJO! BANJO!
If you undo and frog the shirt you might have enough yarn to retry in a smaller size!! (:
Do it! I get the banjo desire!
I’m a graphic designer with a tshirt business. I’d love to make you a legit shirt like that!
There were some good vibes coming out of my phone when you were sitting in there with the instruments
I haven't picked up a guitar in about a month because just lack of morivation but seeing you play makes me long for my one. Thanks for that..
I felt the same way about piano lessons, scales! Noooo. Let me play music...I also have been rolling my sweatshirt sleeves up since I was in high school, I graduated in 1985... lol. Most of my sleeves can only be worn that way at this point..🤷♀️ oh well. 🙂
it looks like you used a pic of one of the guys from TwoSet violin??! I don't even play violin but they're very, very funny to watch.
elyse that's how I feel about the flute! so so difficult to dream.
I have the same level of self-control when I'm alone that you do😂 although i would've just bought the banjo lmao
omg when you talked about how the corn field is like an ocean it immediately made me think about a sonet by one of legendary polish writers, adam mickiewicz. the sonet is called "stepy akermańskie" ("The Akkerman Steppe") and there he also compares a grassy field to an ocean. so no, it's not stupid. and it's a beautiful poem btw.
Is that really the vibe of stores in the Midwest?! That would make me anxious😂
Chord progression sounds like “Barely breathing” Duncan sheik
Today I stitched a patch onto my canvas tote while being a passenger and stuck in traffic. I happened to have had a hand-sewing kit on me and was able to blanket stitch around to secure it in about 10 minutes. :)
I play the viola too!!!!
The absolute chokehold that raspberry lime spindrift has on me
I stickered the inside if my van. So fun and then i get to see them, unlike a bunper sticker. Also keeps my vehicle more random and unrecognizablw in a oarking lot. I had to get a new van ans all my cool stuckers are gone now so time to start anew.
