You views on my country South Africa were spot on. We appreciate that. And yes very proud of late Dr Christaan Barnard. You are a delight to watch and I will be purchasing the book soon.😊❤
It wasn’t you that needed editing at all. It was that naughty man on the desk having that very loud and never ending FaceTime. We should have filmed one of our hotel showers 🚿 hahahaha.
speaking on behalf of scotland and myself, i am ASHAMED my mouth slipped because Anton is absolute HUN!!! loved seeing my two fav bookish babes yap! incredible to hear about how this book into fruition and loved hearing about Anton's enthusiastic thoughts on translation with a banger list! can't wait to get to some of these titles
I’m definitely going to be reading some of Anton’s recommendations, well probably all of them though The End of August is an absolute beast of a chunkster. Ooh maybe that’s our next buddy read. An Anton Hun pick!
Well this was a treat! I love the way Anton described his experience and thoughts about judging the Booker and wanting to be an advocate for great books. How wonderful! And I am definitely looking up all the books he recommended!
He’s an absolute wonderful hun. Fingers crossed next time I’ll interview him in Seoul, that’s our new goal. I would love to go there. I’m excited to see what Anton, Beth and the other judges pick for their longlist next year.
What an enjoyable conversation. Anton is lovely and clearly has a great sensibility. This really brought me back because I have a BA in translation (English to French) but I'm working in another field now. I was initially drawn to translation because I envisioned myself translating movies and books. That was until I asked questions about it to a university teacher and was brought down to earth about the reality of this limited sector of the translation industry. I'm happy for Anton that he gets to live this dream, but most importantly that he also got to publish his own work and his own words. With the ability to put the hatchet in his own text any way that he pleases, as he so eloquently shared. 😁
So pleased you enjoyed our chat! Anton is a delight and it is sooooo lovely seeing him enjoying everything so much, I need to remember to be more like that and celebrate all the joyous moments and let the not so be like water off a ducks back hahaha.
This was soooo. special Simon. I loved what Anton had to say about highlighting translated literature and, as I’ve enjoyed reading for WIT this month, also look forward to reading his recommendations for WIT , his own TE , and adding them to my tbr. Thank you both!☺️
Loved this interview - thank you! Excited to read Anton’s book after the interview as I don’t usually read sci fi. What a lovely guy Anton is and interested to get to his recommendations as don’t read much translated fiction…this needs to change😬
Thank you so much for having me!!! And for editing out all my acid reflux coughing, sorry for all that extra work 😭💜

Thrilled you enjoyed it so much Taneese. I’ll be heading to all of Anton’s recommendations very soon myself. They all sounded sooooo good.
Yes I agree… it’s hard to pick just one or two😜 but I’m going to start with Life Ceremony as I really enjoy short stories.
Ahhh I just finished Toward Eternity and it was so amazing! So cool to then coincidentally see the author on your feed!!
Suuuuuuuuch a good book. I am very grateful for Anton and the joy he brings to social media... and so thrilled he filmed with me.
I'm really looking forward to picking Anton's book up. Excellent recommendations there at the end too and a couple of new ones for the WIT TBR.
Glad you enjoyed the video and the recommendations!
Such a treat! Thank you both!🎉
A pleasure! Glad you enjoyed it!
What a great interview!! I have Toward Eternity saved ready to read soon ❤
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did Charlie.
Thanks, agree about the translator making the cover. Your book sounds great.😊
His book is fab!

Well he has indeed given you a cracking list of places to start, plus there are all the books that he has translated too.
Great interview, reserved some books from my library!
