you really don't need years to learn an instrument. if you can pick up a guitar, just watch youtube videos and you will already be able to play a few chords. then if there is a song you like, you just need to type the song name in google and add "chords" at the end, you will get an "ultimate guitar" tab probably, you should go there, and it shows you the lyrics and the chords that are played at each part. if there is a chord you don't know how to play you just hover your mouse or click on it with your finger if you are using a phone, and it will show you a chord diagram on how to play that chord, and already you can play your favorite songs (after some practise ofc). I just wanted to say that it is really not that hard as many people think.

I'm no pro or anything but I have a lot of originals and one thing you can do is (if you're a beginner) to write songs with the basic song template. Verse, pre-chorus, chorus, Verse2, pre-chorus, chorus, bridge, chorusx2.
When you're a beginner, I wouldn't advise you to pick complex chord progressions. Instead, keep everything as simple as you can because you can make the simplest chords sound precious. Try not to write too complicated things. Take everything easily and write as simple and real as you can. Don't push yourself to hard to write "hits" or "masterpieces". Everything will come with the time.

Yeah, me too! I just started learning guitar but I know ukulele, so it helps. Whenever I sit with my guitar, ready to make songs it seems i never can. It’s usually at night or in a few minutes.

The problem with me is that, once I start humming out a melody, I end up singing another melody from a song I already know... I just can't seem to get rid of it! I know it has been a whileee but I used to have that habbit but my advice for you is to try doing it when your sorta tierd so it just flows out of you (that helped me it might not help you)

I recommend learning a little bit of music theory! It made my knowledge about music go deeper and now I can come up with much more original melodies and chord progressions :DDD

My melodies are bomb as hell. My lyrics are good but I don't like writing. In fact I lose inspiration when I try to write. I gain more inspiration when I'm creating melodies. My problem is that I don't record them and end up forgetting 🤦🏾♀️ But I just create more 😂 I can hear a beat and create a melody like a fire struck by a match 🔥 I need to record more.
