Hey Gary, I installed a new water softener. Ever since I installed it my water pressure starts out fine but over a few hours it will diminish down to a trickle. I can quickly flip the bypass on and back off and the pressure returns to normal and then will slowly start to diminish again. Any ideas?
I have a Halo water system but I don't see a brine tank , what does that mean? I don't think this system I have works I still have hard water , I purchased the house with this system .
Well I was one of them! Moved from a house with city water to a rural house with a well and an AO Smith softener. Thanks to your great explanation I now know what that running water is all about in the middle of the night. Thanks for the helpful video!
Hi Gary and Jon! We recently purchased a home with a water softener, which we’ve never had before. I’ve watched many of your videos and learned lots of great information. However, I still have one. :) How can we tell which faucets or what things are actually connected to our water softener? We had a water softener installer come out when we first purchased our home to show us how to use it but we didn’t ask him this question. Someone else told us “probably “ only the hot water to our bathrooms. So we are left wondering. Thx
A couple of ways. The best is follow the plumbing before where the water softener is connected. All of those lines are not softened. The second is follow all of the lines after the softener those are all softened.
Gary, thank you for the info. Do you have a video or tips for getting a water softener up and running after it has been sitting idle for several years?
Make sure the brine tank is 1/2 full of new salt, add 3 gallons of water and media cleaner waterestore.com/products/pro-res-care-water-softener-resin-cleaner to brine tank and then regenerate twice, 8 hours apart. You might get some brown water for a day or two but it will go away.
Is it possible during the brine cycle the brine is bypassing the media tank and go directly to drain. During my cycle (cycling as it should) there is a continued heavy flow to the drain. My water still does not have silky to touch soft water. Is the brine being diverted to drain and not entering the media tank? Brine 70 min. At 55 minutes brine tube sucked out but continued to have a heavy flow of drain water. I’ve captured 12- 20 litre pails. Salt, water is correct. I would think during the brine tank emptying there would be no flow.
It is possible but unlikely. There needs to be flow to the drain thoughout the brine cycle since it needs that flow to create the suction through the venturi (injector) to be able to suck out the brine. The "Hevay Flow" during the brine cycle is a concern. You may need to rebuild the valve. Check out this video th-cam.com/users/livehXcQ7qCxvjY
Forgive the ignorance, but are there all in one tanks that serve both as a water heater and a softener, or is it 2 separate things that need to be installed. How do smaller spaces/homes do it?
My brine stage is set to 60 minutes. During this time I see the brine solution goes down but the brine is siphoned off sooner than 60 minutes so I kept adding water with the hose. So does there have to be enough water in brine tank to run for 60 minutes? That seems like a lot of water especially if brine tank is full of salt (less water).

Yes, Aquafina or Dasani, are a great choice for bottled water. Or you can go with a Reverse Osmosis drinking water system like I use for my family waterestore.com/products/hum-water-saver-reverse-osmosis-system-75-gallons-per-day
Hey Gary Recently had a clack softener installed in my home. The system is consuming salt but not softening the water in my home as per the water tests. I replaced the float valve and motherboard and hasn’t resolved. The system is less than a year old. What could issue be? Thanks in advance
For sure the water from the location where you are testing the water from actually goes through the water softener? When you run water at that location does the word "Softening" flash on the screen?
Hi Gary I have a Viqua water softener. When I manually trigger regeneration by pressing and holding the REGEN button, the motor starts and the first message I see on screen is 'Fill' which lasts about 6-7 mins. This then turns into Softening which shows close to 4 hours. During Fill, I do not see any water getting transferred to the brine tank through the tube connected to the media tank. The softener is only an year old, any idea what might be going on? Could it be a blocked injector? Thanks!
Definitely somethign wrong as there should be water flowing into the brine tank for the full 6-7 minutes. Not the injector, but the brine line flow control (BLFC) could be blocked. I'd check there first.
Hi Gary, you mentioned that it usually goes off at 2am, ours is at 3:15 am. We just moved into our new home, the only issue is our sump pump seems to kick in when this happens for nearly 45 minutes and keeps my wife awake since it is very noises and under the bedroom floor. Is it an issue if we change the time to 9am rather than middle of the night? I assume it’s middle of the night as people likely will not be using water then?
Hi Gary, appreciate your videos. Im trying to troubleshoot my at least 15 year old fleck 5600 econominder thats not really softening the water very well. I replaced the resin last year and that didn't seem to help. I'm wondering, could the (never been replaced) brine valve and or piston and seals somehow be the culprit? I'm wondering if either of those assemblies could possibly be leaking untreated water into the resin tank. Id br happy to provide pictures of the piston though a dropbox link if you'd like, it has some substantial pitting in places. Kinda stumped down here in Florida my friend, any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, the Injector nozzle and injector throat are clear of any obstructions. water hardness is 14, resin tank is clack 8X44
I really know very little about Fleck products including the 5600. If yours is metered, I would confirm if the meter works. Other than that, this troubleshooting video might help th-cam.com/users/liveLr3jyGiJdC0
@GarytheWaterGuy thanks for the prompt response my friend. At 30:50 in the video you began to explain what happens if water flows past the spacer stack but didn't finish your thought...can you please provide a little more detail on what can happen in that scenario? Thanks, Tim
Great video. Is there any reason the resin would be getting out into our water lines? I've found quite a few faucets where the resin balls are clogging up the screens on the faucets. Maybe the riser tube is letting them through?
@@water_estore I have an old Turbosoft from around 2010 I've disassembled with the help of your videos, really not bad, just a little messy. It only had a bottom basket, no top basket, which seems odd, but apparently it came that way. Not sure if that's "normal" or not. The lower basket doesn't look that bad, but I'm replacing it anyway. Probably need to replace the media too at this point. I can't find much about Turbosoft anymore, must have been discontinued.
The riser tube in those is called a trubulator. They were quite fussy so we and I don't think too many others use them any more. Yes, there shuld have been a top basket.
@@water_estore well replacing the basket with a new one fixed it for now, but perhaps not having a top basket on these is a design flaw. Still softens the water quite nicely. 2 Separate things, each has it's own finction. We have water softeners here waterestore.com/collections/water-softener-1?pf_pt_product_type=System

That's normal. After the brine is gone it just becomes a slow rinse, no need to add water with the hose.
HOw long do media tanks last before you need a new one?

When installing you need to add 5 gallons of water before the first regen.

perpendicular is bypassed.

Yes, 9 am is no problem just make sure that no one uses large amounts of water for laundry or showering until 11 am.

Yes, likely the riser tube or the baskets at the top and bottom of the riser have let go and are allowing the media to escape.
