The bottom inflates to a stiffer level. It is comfy, been 20 miles in one, rapids and all. It's an incredible boat. By the look of the skirt, you did not have enough air in it. The v bottom will shape up depending on how much air you put in. The truth is, it's harder to paddle than a rigid boat but will never tip and is a lot of fun if your young enough to use it lol.also, take the seat out, it's much better
Granted, I could have inflated it more but did not want to overinflate it. That said, one of the air vents on the bottom popped open less that 1/4 mile downriver. Of course, I did not take the pump with me so there really wasn't anything I could do at that point.
thinking of just getting this for lake use
If it is a small, calm lake you should be fine.
It could still handle those rapids quite nicely.
Everything considered, would you say this is more of a beach toy?
No, it is fairly rugged and adequate for mild water. Definitely better than a beach toy.
