There is no MS Office version for ChromeOS. You can use either the web or Android app version of MS Office. Chromebooks are primarily internet machines.
You can buy an external DVD drive, but it cannot play DVD movies. ChromeOS doesn't have the necessary codecs to playback DVD movies. And I don't believe the android version of VLC can play DVDs movies either.
