Brilliant that, and a super tidy work area, even whilst using filler! I only have to think about doing something and the area gets messy 😂 lovely that 👍 wish I’d prepped my backscene areas like that before doing anything else! I’ve made so many mistakes 😂😂😂
Hey @doubleodave, great to see you here. Honestly I have made so many mistakes (some documented) that I am surprised I have got as far as I have. Like rite now, I am trying to stick blue foam to the sloping roof to cover the LCD lighting I have stuck up to illuminate the layout. Ask me how many times the bits have fallen off so far and been re-stuck up. And as if on queue, another one just fell off grrrrrrrr! Great learning curve though eh? Loving your channel such a breath of fresh air keep em coming.
Hey @RGJTrains, thank you Rob & Grace appreciated. Enjoyed last nights stream what I caught of it and that station is looking amazing with the Grace touch.
never seen anyone do a platform quite like that. outstanding results! ballasting is one of the most fun aspects of the hobby to me. i use my fingers as well. the tracks look great Tony :)
Hey John, I saw Mouldy Raspberry creating his platforms that way when I was researching how to do it. Thought I would give it a go. The results are ok and I have learnt a trick or two. I would make sure the inner supports are covered on the first pass in future as they caused the filler to bounce where ever they were on the final fill. Still, we live and learn.
Hey Deano, just realised that notifications were not turned on for your channel, strange as I normally always do that. Anyway, turned on now. Thank you for you wonderful, supportive comment slow progress but getting there.
Hey Elizabeth (I have got that right I hope memory you know), Been a bit of a slog getting things just so but fun. I do have a habit of striving for to much when often 'that will do' is more than enough. Thank you for the support and wonderful comment.
Hey Ben, thank you. Been a bit of a struggle what with one thing and another mostly my lack of knowledge but slowly getting there. Great to have a fabulous community of like minded folk out in YT land to call upon for help. Take care.
Great overview of the process and the mistakes aswell... Think you did a brilliant job there. Great pics and editing aswell, better than my mobile you've nailed it! 🎉
Hey @A_Random_Pea, thank you. Took some time to put together and I was not sure it would work. I had not posted for a while so thought I must put something up. I do everything off my iphone pics, video etc amazing what can be done with just a mobile phone these days.
@@ChobertonJunction I've been using kinemaster for mine, it's pretty good actually, can't work out how you do the fancy intros and endings though, as was only uploading updates to show progression so nothing too pro needed anyway with 8 subscribers I guess lol 🤣 lol 😂
Hey A_Random_Pea, I use DaVinci Resolve to edit my videos which is free. Full blown editing package with all the templates you need for intro's and outro's etc. Give it a go if you can. One thing I did note on your videos, no tags. Apparently these are important for the YT algorithm, so make sure you put them in when uploading it may help to get you out there more.
@@ChobertonJunction ah thanks for that, I'd never have known that! 👍 It's kinda like a working video diary for myself anyway so it's all gravy, nice to have subs but I won't sweat over it.
@A_Random_Pea, best way just let the subs come in their own time. We are not cat videos nor idiots doing stupid things which apparently people like, so we just do our thing and get real people subbing who are genuinely interested in what we do. Keep at it I think your shelf layout is a great idea.
Hey James, thank you but not without its trauma's. As you saw I had to rip up ballast, I broke a point trying to fix fishplates, found the coaches would not fit the platform and even now in the fiddle yard when a loco and three go into it the last coach has it boggie on the point. oooppps. Oh well still fun.
Hey @SimonLivertonCentral, it was just an attempt to try something I had seen @mouldyraspberry do the only thing I would change if I was to do again is make the fill material thicker so that less filler was used. Other than that it will do the job nicely.
Hey Tony. The platforms are looking good. What did you use for the platform edging out of interest? Shame about the ballasting not turning out how you wanted it to the first time. But at least you was able to get it back up and redo it, even though it would have been a pain to do that. Kind regards. Mark.
Hey Mark, good to hear from you. To be honest I realised that once I had levelled (as best I could) the surface of the platform there was no overhang for the edging so all I did was paint a white line to represent that. Ballasting was something new to me as is so much at the moment. I got it wrong imho the first time so had another go after getting lots of advise. Happier with it now. Cleaning off the rails is my next problem to overcome.
There is always a way as my old boss used to say. Strangely I have hit a point where I am not sure what to do next but I am sure I will keep chipping away at the layout.
Hey Elizabeth, guess what? I didn't to start with and one coaches caught the platform on the outside line. So, modified the platform with a curve and moved the track a little. All seemed good but just now my biggest coach caught the upright. Grrrrrrr. Oh well more modifications to do. The parallel tracks are fine, plenty of clearance, possibly a little to much for my liking but will have to do now.
@@ChobertonJunction no worries hot water and redo ballast if you not happy...I wanted to share so much more info with you..but dont want to overwhelm you...
Don't worry just throw it at me. Always happy to receive help and information. I scraped out the old ballast did not know about hot water at the time although you may of mentioned it after. I will note that for future.

I think we all get challenges, I had new code 83 crossover fail, spot weld broke at the points
Ouch that is not good. What did you do in the end to resolve that?
Very nice video, I am still undecided as to which way to go when I get to building my platforms.

Nice work lad
Hey @086DEN, I thank thee.
Good progress Tony, even if it`s not done at first Bat.
Hey Clive, thank you. Yes several attempts some times to get things right or nearly right but that is fine as it is an enjoyable learning process.
A large putty knife as a scale bull float.
Hey @fredpagniello3267, indeed (had to look up what a bull float was) but yes that is exactly it.

Yeah these things are sent to try us sometimes unfortunately. It's good that you found ways to get around the problems though.
There is always a way as my old boss used to say. Strangely I have hit a point where I am not sure what to do next but I am sure I will keep chipping away at the layout.
Just wanted to check...you did test one of widest locomotives and coach at platform clearance?
