    The Holidays are for baking and I LOVE the tip of not enjoying the treats until it's really time to enjoy them. It's tough, but it CAN be done!!! You are one determined woman and I love that about you and I'm encouraged by you! XoXo, Tiffany

    Great video Tracey! I too strive to be a clean eater. I also am someone who must adhere to certain dietary restrictions that I know I can not stray away from, without causing myself a lot of trouble. Even after 30 years of getting sugar out of my diet at home, If I eat even a small amount of refined sugar or refined and simple carbohydrates I end of having to battle sugar cravings for days! A year ago I discovered I am gluten and wheat intolerant with a genetic predisposition for the Celiac disease. For years I have been a vegetarian because I do not digest meat well at all and I have an anaphylactic allergy response to some foods as well. Thus for me, indulging for a special occasion comes at too high a cost. I have decided that I am worth more than that so here is what I am doing for this year's holidays : I am Canadian, our Thanks Giving day is in early October, for which, I made a pumpkin pie without sugar, wheat, or dairy or typical shortening or lard using coconut oil, coconut flour, coconut milk, some pure Canadian Maple Syrup, and tofu and white chia seeds to make up for the bulk and thickening usually provided from sugar. It was superb, with a tasty, plenty sweet and velvety filling and a light flaky tender crust. ....For Christmas, I am not baking anything, other than perhaps a sugarless, almond-flour pound cake to put into a blackberry trifle for Christmas Dinner. Or maybe I'll just make the trifle without cake altogether. Who's to say trifle has to have cake in it? Why not make my own traditions? ......As for social gatherings in the Christmas season, I am taking savory hors-d'oeuvres or dishes that I love, so I know there will be food for me to eat as well as to share. I find that my food gets gobbled up quickly at parties by non-vegetarians and otherwise typical North American eaters alike so I set aside a portion for myself separate from the plate that I put out on the buffet........Over the years I have changed my mindset about what is "treat" and indulgent worthy special-occasion food. For me sugar and junk food are not treats, they are addictive substances with no nutrients what so ever. I feel that when I eat these things that I am not respecting myself or the hard work I have put into recovering my health. I remind myself that I am not missing out on anything. Instead, I look forward to having the foods that I have deemed as occasionally indulgent safe for my body. My special occasion treats are various cheeses, and small amounts of whole natural sugar like dates, honey, maple syrup. coconut sugar, or fruits that are not in season or found in my area often and (gluten-free) flours like brown rice flour, and nut flours. In everyday life, fruit is my sugar and vegetables and gluten-free whole grains replace refined carbohydrates.... I agree with you Tracey that planning ahead can make anything achievable. I freeze wild blackberries in summer to use in winter. I can't think of any treat better than eating fresh tasting sweet blackberries, a reminder of summer, on a grey, rainy day in December or January!

    This is fantastic!! I so agree with all you said, Tracy. I don't do intermittent fasting, because what I do works great for me, which is good healthy eating with lots of exercise. And I always tell myself 'Nothing tastes as good as thin feels lol.' It really works for me!! Love you and your snaps so much. Btw, love what you said recently about appreciating every safe healthy day we have. Amen, sister =)

    I do intermittent fasting on the weekends and get three workouts a week. I am a vegan, so I naturally eat very clean whole foods. All this helps me to keep my weight. Great that you are so disciplined, it is unfortunately not a virtue many practice these days. Great videos! Keep up the good work!

      Sabrina Stovall Try starting your day with 1/2 juiced lemon, 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar, 1/2 tsp ginger powder and 1/4 tsp of cinnamon & a tiny dash of cayenne pepper in 6-7 oz of warm water. This should start to curb your sweet cravings. I used to have that problem too, but no longer! xo Patti

    Have you tried FitVine? It’s a line of wine that is lower in sugars and carbs than typical wine. It still tastes wonderful though. For the party that my hubby and I are hosting this year, I’m going to make sure I have several bottles of this on hand. I want my friends that are being mindful of what they are consuming to be able to indulge a bit 😘

You will be happy you got a Snapchat account just to catch Tracy’s snaps. I especially love her early morning chats and when she snaps while cooking. She evens takes us in the shower with her. Another option for me is to do some of my clean eating at home before I go to the party (especially if I know that the food is going to be fried or there will be mostly foods I don't /can't eat). The bonus is that, when I'm there, it's not as hard for me to "resist" the desserts, since I'm not super hungry.

    • @TracyHensel
      @TracyHensel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another great video Tracy! Thanks so much. I'm on my second week of clean eating and fasting, still going well. I also got the MCT oil like you recommended, does not have a bad taste at all, just need to get used to the texture. Question, if I want to incorporate a 3 day fast, do you recommend doing that right before the holiday or after?

    • @TracyHensel
      @TracyHensel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Thanks for the update Bonny!! I will be reaching out to you Friday ... that will be he 2 week mark. I hope all is going well. Awesome that you have incorporated the MCT Oil!!! As for the FAST ... either/or is fine. It's really up to you. Doing it after, is great! It gives your body time to digest all the 'processed garbage' you've taken in. Once the food is digested, the gut has time to heal and regenerate. The downside is that it's very hard to do. We naturally crave bad food, after having a few days of it. You will go through some food hangover symptoms. If you choose to FAST prior, you would avoid most of these symptoms. If you go into a FAST after several days of say: clean eating + Intermittent Fasting ... your FAST will go much smoother!! Great Question!! We will be in tough Friday!!! Keep up the GREAT work!!

    Another Amen to this video Tracy! I love intermittent fasting IT WORKS!
    I also hate going above my ideal weight. I go on a diet before the holiday season, and loose 4 to 5 lb. so when the holidays come I'm fluctuating within my weight rang. For me I live wheat free most of the time. I do not have a gluten problem, but I do notice that things with
    any kind of wheat or flower in exsess make my weight go up! Also when I consume lots of things with wheat my appetite increases! Because I know the holidays have lots of things like baked goods, stuffings, pastas, etc I know this means a few pounds will come on so better for me to loose them before all the fun begins.......LOL
    I also do the same as you and use intermittent fasting, and only indulge at the holiday events. This works for me. I say get a head start, and loose a few pounds before the season begins!

    • @TracyHensel
      @TracyHensel  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for sharing, Sandy! I prescribe to pretty much the same, and experience the same darn symptoms when I have wheat products in my diet. I am actually advised to have no YEAST whatsoever in my diet. Well, that pretty much eliminates EVERYTHING!!!

    That's pretty much what I do. And another thing, at these parties when I do indulge, I always ask myself "Is this worth the calories?" If it tastes great, I say "Yes!" and I eat it guilt free. If it is just okay, and not as good as it looks, I discreetly don't eat it. We've all been there, we see a cake, pie, or treat that LOOKS amazing, but is just so-so. Don't was those precious calories on it! LOL
