    Bought the DJI version. Added bluejay esc, BF4.3, dynamic idle 30, a sweet tune, solid screws in the stack, and lifted up back mount to get to 25%tilt camera; it is now a marvelous piece of technology.
    This flies much bigger than it is. Not like a woop, like a 3 to 4" quad. Full freestyle on a 450 (4) and most freestyle on 750 (7mins). It's nice to fly at a spot and not be noticed, flying in my DJ I goggles. Love this! Get two and polar one for night. My new favorite.

      hey why do you want a bluejay esc? what is dynamic idle 30? and do you prefer BF4.3 over the latest 4.4? thanks mate

    I know this video is over a year old but thank you for it! Im getting into flying FPV Quads and thanks to your amazing videos I have learned so much. My Firefly 2S nano baby 20 is on its way to my house along with a transmitter, box goggles (for now), a charger, and batteries. Without your videos I wouldnt have had the confidence to build and buy my own set of kit for my first Quad and probably would have just got the tinyhawk 3 freestyle RTF. That kit is great but doesnt have much room for growth. So yet again thank you for the amazing information.

    I want to let everyone that gets the analog version know, that flywoo sends the vtx locked.
    Gotta press and hold the button for 10 seconds to get it to unlock. Else it will be stuck on 25mw and certain channels won't be available (like race band 8).
    Took a while for me to realize this and had been flying on 25mw for the longest.

    • @cathodd2442
      @cathodd2442 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The easiest way to know if it's locked is by trying to go to raceband 1,2,3,7 or 8. If it doesn't work immediately, it's locked.

      How does it fly and do you fly it inside and out side ?

  • @escueme
    @escueme ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Acro mode is usually best when flying outdoors. I think some beginners will inevitably try flying indoors or in a small space (e.g. bedroom) and if that's the case, deleting horizon/angle mode would be a disaster.

    • @cagmuer
      @cagmuer ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah why are people so against angle for beginners????? Its the best, you get allot of your muscle memory in place and then just switch to acro and learn that. It wasn't a problem for me 3 years ago. Allot less crashing. Its not like angle mode has the sticks flipped or puts the radio in Mode 1. I don't understand why so hostile.

    • @noobfpv2668
      @noobfpv2668 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cagmuer I guess everyone learns at different paces, I just got into the hobby 2 weeks ago and started in acro mode on sim, i picked it up within 10 minutes, i tried angle mode and it was horrible and hard to control. Im now doing flips and flying under stuff, acro all the way

    • @wagnerbynature
      @wagnerbynature ปีที่แล้ว

      @@noobfpv2668 I also started flying acro in the sim, when I first got my quad and flew angle, it felt so wrong. Acro was still difficult but after 1-3 packs there I was fine!

    • @cagmuer
      @cagmuer ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@noobfpv2668 Yeah there wasn't good sims when I started so I was flying for real and trying to avoid crashes. Sims change everything. But even pro whoop pilots fly angle mode and when I'm flying in the house I am in angle mode. Its just another tool. Nothing "wrong" with it.

    Once all ExpressLRS receivers and TX modules come with 3.0 pre-flashed, you don't have to reflash. Just set the Binding Phrase in the Web UI, save it and reboot, and they will be paired up.

    Far easier way to bind ELRS to a Firefly(or pretty much any ELRS RX) is to plug the battery in until you hear a beep then quickly disconnect, wait a 1 or 2 count then repeat. Three plug/unplug and the last time you reconnect power the blue LED should be double flashing with two quick pulses together. This indicates bind mode and you can then go to your TX "sys or system" settings scrolling down to ExpressLRS, open the page and scroll down to "bind". You should immediately hear it's connected(something like telemetry connected) or at least see some signal bars on the main transmitter screen. Has worked for me on about 4 different ELRS RXs. On the SPI RX for moblite6 you can go to betaflight receiver page and click bind at bottom then you do same s I stated above for the transmitters half of the binding.

      Is there any disadvantages of binding this way?

    • @lifetimeofworktodo
      @lifetimeofworktodo ปีที่แล้ว

      Easiest way to bind ELRS on the firefly for me was to connect to the RX wifi, set a phrase, then connect to the TX wifi and set the same phrase. Paired right up immediately.

    I don't like that Bardwell said to delete Horizon mode. If im flying indoor and i dont want the controls to be angle mode and i want the quad to still pilot and be able to do most of the maneuvers in acro but inside with more stability, its the perfect option. Outdoor of course dont use horizon, you dont need it. I learned to fly on simulators using acro / air mode to learn and put in over 100 hours before i got my first fpv drone and over 200 hours since i got my first tiny whoop. Even though i have a perfect grasp on flying acro, and can even do so indoor, being in horizon mode inside allows me to get crazier with the tricks while still maintaining the ability to recover if I hit an object im flying within centimeters from. Bad advice in my honest opinion.

      Yep, exactly.

    • @KOrnhOliO1
      @KOrnhOliO1 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not much heavier! Naked Vistas are about 12g. A person can build their own that comes out quite a bit lighter and more agile than this! Good for Flywoo though!!!! At least they are trying to build digital BNF ultra small micros! I built a similar carbon fiber 75mm DJI naked Vista RIPPER that weighs a mere 38g with a physical beeper. A guy I chat with here on TH-cam flies his 35g 75mm whoop very competitively! He thinks he can get one built just under 30 grams! 😳🤘
      None of the other manufacturers have done any building and pushing the ultra light builds lower and lower in weight. They built those stupid, way to heavy 80g or so DJI digital micros, right when DJI entered the digital FPV game, back in late 2019, but have failed to come out with anything else! Even BetaFPV hasn't done JACK, and they specialize in micros a lot. It's disappointing to say the least! They all just quit!!! 😩

I sent them an email but didn’t hear anything. The day after the sale ended I got an email saying that it shipped so I replied to the email and they said “they never got my first email and now the Black Friday sale is over”. It's normal for the vTX to get that hot if there isn't any airflow from the props. Best practice is to blow a fan on it when working on the bench. These are high powered vTX with almost no thermal mass. They get super hot.

    Thanks for this video! I really enjoy all the FPV knowledge you share. I recently got into FPV and got the analog version of this drone with FrSky (pairing with my emax E8 controller). Are you able to give an example of pairing with Frsky for this drone? For the life of me I can't find a button on the transmitter (I think it's the FrSky R-XSR) to bind with. Thanks!

    • @elforama
      @elforama ปีที่แล้ว

      Resolved. In case others run into this. The button is very small/smooth and looks a bit like a lump of solder on the top near where the wires stick out. Pressing that enabled it to bind. Once bound a green light turns on. If betaflight cannot sense the inputs, then plug in the quad, hold the button for 4 seconds until a blue light goes on (green light will still be on if transmitter is connected). Unplug, replug, and then betaflight should see the stick inputs. In my case the mappings were all wrong, so they needed to be fixed.

    Have you noticed these quads (specifically the analog) getting very hot? I got the analog version and the baseplate feels hot/very warm. I can put my hand over it and feel heat rising. Hopefully someone can help me here. I flashed (I know I shouldn't have) Bluejay to my esc's using esc-configurator, after watching JB's video on it, to my ELRS NanoBaby2s analog. After I did this I checked it on esc-configurator and the motors seemed to work fine through the web page motor check. I also went to BetaFlight and checked the motors there and had no errors and also had full control and full throttle range on the motor checks through Beta.
    But when I disconnected from Beta and armed the quad with my radio (TX12ELRS 3.1.1) the motors initially spin properly, but as soon as I gave it some throttle, it went to 100% throttle on it's own and didn't stop when I dropped the throttle down until I disarmed. When I disarmed they stopped immediately. All of my receiver settings are correct on Beta. I am not sure of the other settings though, because I am a newb. I haven't let it run when it does this and I don't believe I fried anything because I sit the quad in front of a fan whenever it's plugged in and make sure to cut it off as soon as it does this each time. Also, the motors make the 3 and then 2 beeps ok every time I plug the battery in, so according to the video JB uploaded a while back, the esc is fine.
    So I went to the FlyWoo site AFTER (ugh!) doing all this and saw that they warn against flashing the esc's. If you do though, they have the original firmware which you can re-flash back. So I went to esc-configurator and flashed my esc's again with the original firmware from FlyWoo and now it ALMOST works, I have throttle control for the first 10% of the stick up range, but if I go above 10% it goes 100% throttle again. If I use the roll and pitch stick the motors work just fine. It only seems to do this when I give it throttle.
    If anyone can help me I would appreciate it. I have been at this for many days now and I have even reached out to JB, but haven't heard back from him yet. I posted this here because I hope that if someone else makes the same mistakes I made they might find an answer. I am pretty sure I changed a setting somewhere and that is the issue, but I am no expert and don't have a clue if a "fried" esc would result in this type of problem or not. Thanks for reading and helping.

      One or more of your motors are spinning the wrong direction after the flash is my best guess. Go back and check the motor direction and if the motor direction is spinning the wrong way, reverse it in BlueJay.

      @@JoshuaBardwell Hi! So I finally got the throttle to respond after 6 days of struggling! I flashed the esc's back to the original BLHeli_S firmware which was on the Flywoo site. That didn't stop the problem though. Then I went into my configuration tab on BF4.3 where I had airmode permanently enabled. After disabling it, it stopped going full throttle and the motors are responding to my stick inputs, finally. I am sure there are a few more settings that are messed up though if that was the solution, and I still haven't flown it yet, but I am glad that the motors spool up and down according to my stick position finally. I have A LOT to learn about ELRS and BF. The past 6 days were a crash course. Hopefully it doesn't end with a crash. If you have advice or videos which you think might be relevant to what I did, I appreciate any additional guidance. Thank you!

    any idea how to pair this drone with 'nebula pro nano', 'HD DJI Vista' to dji integra googles? Flywoo confirmed twice that these are compatible, but I put googles into pairing mode, it's beeping, I press button on drone, and nothing happnes. Both in 'dji fpv air unit' mode and in 'dji o3 air unit' mode. Any suggestions?

      Put the Integra into "DJI Air Unit" mode. Then it will bind to Vista. You might need to update firmware on both the goggles and the Vista if you haven't updated them in a while.

Please help: which version of integra googles did you use when it worked for you? Or is there some secret handshake outside of start pairing on googles, start pairing on quad(Firefly 2S Nano Baby 20 HD DJI Vista Micro Drone)? I tried short press on quad, long press. There is undocumented discotheque of colors flashing, but I have no idea what that means :)

    This is a great video, but you completely skip over the essential steps. I have no idea how to plug my controller to the computer, what option on the controller should be selected..ie. USB, the other two options. Also, if the controller and quad have to be bound with the same binding phrase, how do I get the binding phrase from the quad??

    • @JoshuaBardwell
      @JoshuaBardwell  ปีที่แล้ว

      Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think this video ever tells you to plug your controller into your computer. I haven't re-watched the whole 40 minute video to be sure but just based on the chapter titles, I don't see anything that would require you to plug the controller into the computer.
      Why is it that you're trying to do that? What timestamp in the video are you at?
      You don't "get the bind phrase from the quad". You make up a bind phrase and put the same bind phrase on both the quad and the controller. Details on that are in the "ExpressLRS definitive getting started guide" that I link to in the video description and mention in the video.

    • @devinkelley2399
      @devinkelley2399 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Joshua Bardwell you're correct, you don't say that. As a beginner I'm confused, how to I flash my controller if I don't connect it to my computer? I already have the tx12 I bought with another quad. I then purchased the flywoo on its own, so need to bind the controller and the dominator goggles.

      The review is coming. I have to set it up before I review it. I tried horizon that one time when I first started flying… any time I had to make a quick maneuver the quad rolled 😂 it was super awkward. I gave up on it then and there. Maybe it’s different now? I fly exclusively acro for a long time. Not gonna change that, it works.

    • @BrianKrumheuer
      @BrianKrumheuer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lemonsquareFPV I agree acro is the best and everyone should have the goal of trying to learn it. Beginners can benefit from angle mode because it can prevent them from getting into trouble like you described. But there was a period when experienced tiny whoop racers tended to fly in angle mode and I never understood it. If someone wants to use auto-level that's fine, but why limit the angle? In horizon mode you can go inverted when you need to

    • @lemonsquareFPV
      @lemonsquareFPV ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BrianKrumheuer horizon mode when I tried it had no control of inverted angle and did auto rotations when the stick was too far off centre. Sounds like it is different nowadays. It was uncontrolled movement when I flew it.
      I flew angle a bit, but as soon as I was brave enough to try acro, I just kept flying it. It is so much easier and, I have full control with no weirdness or jerkiness. Just smooth controlled flight.
      Never understood angle, it reminds me more of remote control cars on the ground, instead of maneuverable high performance flying machines. I fly upside down and sideways a lot, maybe it’s just not compatible with my style. I might try it this weekend, now I’m all curious. :p I’ll put together something disposable and give it a go. I am committing to this experiment!

    First off - thank you Josh, this is just one of 100s of amazing instructive (and basically mandatory for new pilots in hobby) videos that you have labored to create since genesis of FPV. What I am going to say now may piss off some so be it. Why does it take this level of understanding (including good am't largely arcane and non intuitive info) and technical ability to be able to get to the point where you are flying these quads?? These are largely a good example of the larger hobby and quad / video / controller manufacturers. You personally may like the barrier to entry the aforementioned represents however, the hobby will die if it continues in this guise of non intuitive non user friendly set up for a basic FPV quad and req'd ancillaries. Yes, it will die as I assume it is slowly doing currently. DJI was only mfg that worked against this trend and they appear to be moving away from supporting BNF DJI equipped hobby quads. I dont want FPV to die but many things need to change that wont happen without a change and sea change in how betaflight, RC controller protocols, and HD video systems work together out of the box. Not dummy proof but something not full of hang ups and technical gotchas that detract from overall enjoyment of the hobby
