The thing with combat in botw/totk is you can tackle the way that you like the same way with its puzzles where you can be creative or just do it the simple way. Like in dmc you can mash your way to beat the story game but because the game’s combat is so good you choose to be stylish/creative

I think the “chest problem” cowboy was talking about comes from the fact they moved away from “traditional” Zelda dungeons and game design so you can’t really have meaningful chests just scattered about cause somebody might miss a important upgrade or piece of kit if they did that.

Honestly, Cowboy is a good creator, but some of his criticim is unwarranted or a bit questionable for me. Like Nintendo doing the bare minimum (with combat or the game itself. I assume both), the combat being basic (or which there was more to it), the placement of shrines and npcs (that feels like point A to point B) and the chests placement and reward in it(which he said it is similar to Botw's) Nintendo doing the bare minimum is probably the most ridicolous criticism I heard from him, and that is a big no. If he meant the combaf, then perhaps I would halfly agree as if in wanting a whole different combat than Botw, but even then, ignoring all the aspects in it and ignoring all the aspects that has been worked into as you literally said in the cast that physics in TOTK is unmatched is quite frankly contradicting. You cannot just tell this is a game that has the bare minimum with all this stuff in it. Allthemore, the depths, new bosses and enemies, totally new story, quests that are now great, shrines with great puzzles, Dungeons with great theming and a whole lot more and you tell me that is the bare minimum? You see, Im all for criticzing the game like how the dungeons are too short and how a bit too open ended they are, or how the story is structured as an example or the difficulty in the later end game which is pretty easy as enemies do less damage. But the BARE minimum is not one of them... Moving to the combat, I kinda understand you where you are coming from, and I mildly agree if you are not using any of the new mechanics given, especially fighting things like the new Bokoblin boss, the Construct, smarter Bokoblins and many bosses that Im afraid to spoil it to you. Anyhow, choosing not to engage in the sequek's new mechanics would just make you feel the same thing with Botw, but the problem that is that you arent engaging with the other systems around you and complaining that the combat is too basic. No, as you said in the poadcast, you dont want to think ahead of you just to fight a single Bokoblin or a whole camp that is, which you are denying what the game is giving you in your tools. That is fine however, since all of us have preferences afterall but blaming the whole combat system in the game is pretty unwarranted if you chose not to engage with the other mechanics around you, especially that you havent fought the *more* difficult bosses in the overworld like Lynels and other things I dont want to spoil. 70 hours into the game (which you dont need that much hours into the game, you can just finish it in 30 or 40) and I have explored a ton in hyrule, and I have to disagree with the point A to point B thing. An odd criticism that I heard about from anyone playing this game, but there could be merit into it. Otherwise, I never felt that with TOTK as the exploration in this game made me get overwhelmed in a good way, which I never felt in ER to some degree. Getting to he point: the chests in this game are entirely different than in BOTW. The reward itself is also different, since most of the armour in this game is found in chests, like the Glow armor, the Climbing armour or the rubber armour as an example. I never had an issue with that, and the weapons you get are all useful whether it be from enemy camps or from chests. So saying the loot in totk is the same as botw is not that true. To some form, yes, but entirely? No. Honestly, this all sounds to me that this game is not for you, as this is far from the bare minimum and far from Pokemon. If not for this topic, I wouldnt make this comment but this is pretty disingenious saying that when you literally ignore all the elements TOTK have done, especially when you contradicted yourself with this game having an unmatched physics stuff in it. No, this is not the bare minimum cowboy. This game mightnt be for you and that is okay. Im all for criticism, but this one aint it.
Yup plus Zelda has never been about the combat. It's always been about the exploration, discovery, puzzles and adventure. Do I wish the combat was better, absolutely but it doesn't hinder the experience what so ever
@@joed5150 I totally agree! But Zelda had good bosses too as well as good fights! Lynel is probably one of the best fights! It is difficult yet so rewarding! Each encounter against one feels like a death sentence since it requires you to master everything! I do agree with you though!
no wonder people think cowboy really hates zelda, because he isn't being fair to what TOTK has done, and the tradeoff their team has to do in order to achieve this. a lot of his criticism can be applied to any of his favorite games as well.
I agree about cowboys take on DD2 - I’m not a graphics snob and from what I gather neither is Cowboy? But maybe I was just expecting little more in terms of drastic graphic improvement since we are now into the 2nd gen since the first release. Am I still going to play it-hells yes!!
MGS DELTA meant that FPCON(Force protection condition) Delta is imposed on a localised area and that a terrorism act has occurred. Guess who shot that nuke.

There's people who have dedicated channels to Beat Saber on here. It's also a great workout more than you'd think. 😂. I just wish I had a PSVR or a VR system period cause that's the only game I'd play on VR if I could. Played it at a friend's house every time I went over.
I don't care about zelda games, like them even less because nintendo fanboys can't handle me saying I'm not interested. Imagine not being interested in a specific game and getting death threats.
@@MikeMac1304 I dont know; few of his criticism were valid but when he says that the game is bare minimum and contradicting himself with the physics being unmatched is not a good criticism. This is disingenious. Secondly, the chest problem I may understand but saying it is the same as Botw? That is not true, as most armour comes from these chests you explore in the overworld, underground or in the skies. Im all for criticism like how the dungeons work and why they should be linear. It lefted it desiring for more. Or how the sages work which bothered me a lot. Few of his I found agreeing but some is not a good criticism. Edit: not to mention trying to blame someone for criticizing his criticism for being too defensive or a fanboy is a stupid thing for you to say. We have full rights to criticize what he is saying respectfully, but when someone bashing him or saying he is stupid or an idiot for having opinions is a red line.
@Andrew he's a content creator and a successful one at that. It's his job to criticise and evaluate games, it's not your job to claim his criticism isn't valid because you've had a different experience. It's HIS opinion based on HIS experience so far. His experience is also having people cry when he brings up any criticism which would sour anyone's mood and experience, you can't deny there are major fanboys who can't accept ToTK is overrated. Its easy as viewers for us to pick apart what he says but most of the time he is on point with what a good game is and where the faults are and ToTK has a lot of faults from what I've seen. It also has a lot of great things. Zelda and Nintendo fanboys will never accept criticism of a game that is great but could have been SO much better
@@MikeMac1304 Ha, so it seems Im a fanboy and do not have an opinion for how much of a valid opinion he has. If anything, it seems you are pretty fragile to call anyone out for criticizing his opinions, especially when you try and to tell me that people cry when nobody gives a damn about his opinion unless they are unwarranted. And here is the thing, there is plenty to criticize and things that he got wrong about the game which are surface level. Yes, a successful content creator but doesnt mean all of his criticism are on point, neither mine. Differentiate between people seek for discussion and others whom only seek to glorify the game to a holy extent. But as far as it goes, there are reasons why his criticism makes people push it, because yes, while he experienced some of what the game offered, he makes questionable criticism as I mentioned. Like saying that they did the bare minimum, which is factually incorrect when you consider everything that is been presented in the game. The game couldve been better, but the game is already great which you have mentioned. One faulty thing you are trying to tell me that the so called **fanboys** that you claim are the ones that doesnt accept criticism is bullsh*t when those so called **fanboys** been the most critical of Nintendo the most as they are the ones whom give all the feedback to improve Botw's sequel. Yes, as you said, there are those people you mentioned but they you also have to reckon the other half of the spectrum. If you told me he is on point, most people would truly disagree if there is a common sense. There are stuff as I mentioned that I agree with but most of his opinions isnt the fault of the game itself, which you fail to understand that. Otherwise, TOTK isnt really that overrated? I have played the game thus far with 70 hours (havent finished it) and so far, it is on par with Elden Ring. From all the people I discussed with, the exploration part of TOTK has been the best part of the game, shrines as well and quests. But the weakest aspect which I fully agree with is that the structure of the story is kinda funky (yet, it is pretty good when you actually experience the story) and how the dungeons shouldve been akin to linearity than just open ended. At last, you have no buisness telling me that it isnt my job and question his criticism of the game. If you are going to put your opinions, expect criticism to your opinion too, and it seems you are too mad to admit that. As i mentioned again, I have full right to question whatever he criticize.

TH-cam live chat obviously isn’t a great way to get points across like this and everyone instantly dog piled me calling me a fucking smooth brain/fanboy and insulting me and my family and you know all the normal retarded shit you read in chat and cowboy contributed as well. And then continues to straw man my argument here on the stream… 🤷♂️ so you know, it is what it is
@@tehCostHD I mean I haven't seen the stream/chat or what happened so can't comment, I was merely going off what he said in this video. There are always 3 sides to a story as they say....I assumed you just missed the person asking for a rating
I think cowboys take on zelda is fair. But personally I absolutely love ToTK and it’s combat. Just not every game is for everyone.
But ppl crying for him giving a 8/10 is childish. Like he said it was good, just calm down😂 he’s not saying to change your opinion.
36:22 Me, loving both XC3 and TotK and having them in my favorite games
Ruri you are confusing bolide with the tornado spell, bolide doesnt make the sky darken and it has always shot more than one meteor. Also yall have got to be smokin something serious if you feel like the gameplay graphics and overworld looked dated.
I already explained, in the showcase it looked bad because of the bitrate.
@@rurikhan The trailer is already out at this point, so the criticisms based off the stream reveal don't have a sound basis.
There is no demo or in-depth trailer though, so all of this debating is pretty pointless lol.
Some games are not for everyone - what a shocker. Some fans just need to accept that. People are different, they react to things differently. What gives some people dopamine rush might be a chore to others.
The thing with combat in botw/totk is you can tackle the way that you like the same way with its puzzles where you can be creative or just do it the simple way. Like in dmc you can mash your way to beat the story game but because the game’s combat is so good you choose to be stylish/creative
BTW Rurikhan. There's 4 difficulty modes for FF XVI. There's Story, Normal, Final fantasy mode and Ultimaniac mode. FF mode is already a very hard challenge and Ultimaniac is supposedly very very extreme challenge ( Me likes it! )
Cowboy talking about Nintendo fans is gold hahahah
My man's just referenced Leasiure Suit Larry and that's why I mess with rurikahn. Old heads gotta stick together!
I don't agree with most of cowboys totk takes, though I do respect them. But mans speaking facts about Link the twink, and I am here for it. We need more elf bussy in gaming tbh.
There is co-op in Lords of the Fallen, it's actually uninterrupted co-op...also has invasions like Dark Souls
In defence of Kotaku (8:25) they were literally quoting Yoshida, verbatim. So I don’t know what else you expect from them as a games reporting outlet? I don’t think they’re right in shitting on the active lore, but they did their job (in this case).
I think there is something in people's brains that dictate how you notice frames. I've heard a ton of people say they can't tell the difference between 60fps and 30fps. If something drops 5 frames below 60, I can tell immediately. I really can't enjoy anything less than 60fps
35:00 I made it all the way to the wind temple without The power but I couldn't start the activation without it
1:15:00 bet started 🙌!!!
1:14:55 make him do a 3 hour stream of Cat Quest when that comes out. 😂😂
Hey rurri, as far as why mgs3 was renamed as mgs delta is most like due to it chronologically being the first in the series timeline. Most likely number was removed so as not to confuse newcomers to the franchise.
DD2 is still heavily in development, I'm 100% sure it'll look better once they've finished their polishing stage.
it's been in development since 2019, the game looked great. I genuinely dont see that you all are talking about.
@@CloudWind0643 I never said it looked ugly. The game doesn't have a release date yet, meaning they aren't in the polishing phase yet. This is how game development works. FF15 took 10 years, so your logic already doesn't make any sense.
@@MouseKeyboardPlayer Neither does yours, Elden ring didn’t even take 10 years to make and people were saying the same thing about that game looking “outdated”. It’s insane.
@@MouseKeyboardPlayer Neither does yours, Elden ring didn’t even take 10 years to make and people were saying the same thing about that game looking “outdated”. It’s insane.
@@CloudWind0643 Obviously DD2 looks better than Elden Ring, because it's not going to be on the last gen of consoles, Elden Ring is. I think Elden Ring looked amazing, imo DD1 still looks amazing.
At "Guess who's going to 100% Breath of the Wild" my lungs ceased to exist
Marathon was the off the wall shooter bungie made before Halo. The Monitor Emblem and a bunch of other stuff in Halo is references to the original Marathon games.
Immortals of Aveum looks like it's going to put every recent bad release to shame. Minimum specs are 2080S and i7-9700, recommended 3080Ti and 17-12700, no way a game with these specs is optimized. I mean how many people are going to even be able to play it?
I think the “chest problem” cowboy was talking about comes from the fact they moved away from “traditional” Zelda dungeons and game design so you can’t really have meaningful chests just scattered about cause somebody might miss a important upgrade or piece of kit if they did that.
They do have meaningful chests with armour etc etc, that's why they have old Treasure maps so that people can find them
@@Datasun7 the armor are pretty bad. The only good ones are the attack up ones. And their are like 3-4 sets that do that. The rest are just resistances. After realizing that my fierce deity set is the best i can get pretty much i stopped caring about exploring. I guess the only thing worth getting after that are koroks seeds and after getting around 50-70 which you can get pretty quickly the koroks start becoming useless too. Even the bubbul gems are useless after getting 50 cuz you get the full set that the merchant gives you after around that many. For an exploration game it really didn't have strong incentives.
Aye we in here!
There isn't any co-op
Dragon's Dogma 2 not even having a release year kinda scares me..
I thought AC Mirage was Persia?
Iraq
Baghdad is the setting iirc. Persia is also a pretty outdated term as it hasn't existed for a long while now.
Honestly, Cowboy is a good creator, but some of his criticim is unwarranted or a bit questionable for me. Like Nintendo doing the bare minimum (with combat or the game itself. I assume both), the combat being basic (or which there was more to it), the placement of shrines and npcs (that feels like point A to point B) and the chests placement and reward in it(which he said it is similar to Botw's)
Nintendo doing the bare minimum is probably the most ridicolous criticism I heard from him, and that is a big no.
@@CassiusTheSecond Oh definitely! You basically have to master the perfect dodge to beat those damn things lol
Wait what people think the graphics looks dated?? The graphics looks way way better, the characters also looks way better
no wonder people think cowboy really hates zelda, because he isn't being fair to what TOTK has done, and the tradeoff their team has to do in order to achieve this. a lot of his criticism can be applied to any of his favorite games as well.
1:30:27 That's why you da man, Rurikhan
I've been looking Forward to this
I agree about cowboys take on DD2 - I’m not a graphics snob and from what I gather neither is Cowboy? But maybe I was just expecting little more in terms of drastic graphic improvement since we are now into the 2nd gen since the first release. Am I still going to play it-hells yes!!
Im not even sure why Kotaku exists anymore
Yeah but, in FFXII you still can play turn based, if you want it. Now every FF's combat is flashy.
A paragon shirt?! Have you tried predecessor?
The score system for combat in the game seems very jarring for a game that wants a serious story.
Cowboy is right about Zelda BoTW/ToTK are not that great in combat. It's fun enough, but not great/satisfying compared to other games.
MGS DELTA meant that FPCON(Force protection condition) Delta is imposed on a localised area and that a terrorism act has occurred. Guess who shot that nuke.
Naw story is so blah in zelda I'm sorry they couldn't give the sages a different cut scene smh
sounds like FightinCowboy never played FFT. "First mature FF we've had" lol ya no.
I think Kotaku exists purely on hate clicks, I've never met one person that actually likes their content, they are the lolcows of gaming media, the DSP of media.
Yeah people that actually do that are insane
been waiting for this
Im cowboy the elitist
Has anyone else commented on all the videos that mention Dragons Dogma 2 ?
1:15:00 Heck Yea!!!!
"where's the time" says man whose job is to play games ;) hehe.
So basically Cowboy's problem is that he's bad at the game (?)
What game are you referring to? Totk? If it is his complaints are valid.
He has valid criticism on both the game and the fanboys. I'm assuming you're one of them when you can't hack valid criticism
Look at all the hate in the comments towards cowboy because he doesnt like a certain game... People need to dry their eyes, wow haha
His opinion seems narrow-minded. However, it is his opinion and haters are idiots.
@@jedi0216 it probably is but he's the one people choose to watch then cry about what he has to say. It's mental. If I don't like someome or what they're saying I won't give their channel or any videos they are in any recognition. Commenting and crying about him only benefits him, nobody else lol.
Yoooooooooooo
Dragons Dogma 2 so far. Feels too much like the first game. Still too soon to determine. I just hope it has multiplayer and a larger scope like what was intended in the first game.
Quitting anything because of a fanbase is dumb, everything has dumb fans. That's a quick way to never enjoy anything.

Ghostrunner 2 was my game of the show. Loved the first game. The cyberbike sections look crazy. I hope they switch to UE5 for this one. Don't want anymore shader compilation stutters.
