I get annoyed with the souls-like search bait, because if everyone says that's what it is, it becomes more like false advertising. The series has evolved a lot since the start and the community sometimes get into "gen wars." When people start being reductive about a whole game just because it's "slower" than for answer then you might as well just not even bother with the series.
Omg, I discovered Rata on this very podcast, and fell down the rabbit hole of classic Zelda games during the run up to TotK and now we're here closing the loop. Amazing!
Xenoblade 3 wasn't rushed. It's release date only got pushed up because it was ready to release. Nintendo sometimes just holds games until they have a good opportunity to release them.
I think people who say ACV is the slowest AC game doesn't know how to play what is effectively one of the faster AC games. Also part of the issue is that there are people out there saying AC6, even after watching gameplay, looks like a Soullslike, or overemphasized how many "Soulslike" elements are going into the game.
Same. They said the speed for 6 is between 3 and 5. Which implied that 5 is faster than 3 and 6. Which also show that 6 is way slower than 5 who is slightly slower than 4. AC5 have deep learning curve. That why it feel slow since they don't know how to utilized movement option I think.
Gents, I thought this conversation, particularly the part about the Zelda community, was really interesting. i just would love to insert that I believe Breath of the Wild a return to what made the first Legend of Zelda great. The open world concept, that incidentally also made the first Dark Souls so fantastic, was truly present in the first Zelda game on NES. You didn't have to do the dungeons in order, and could go all over and get upgrades to your armor and sword without really progressing the game. What you were describing as the older Zelda community, the one that loves Ocarina in time, begins with A Link to the past and the highly specific and regional dungeons and bosses. My point is this: I think an argument could be made that Breath of the Wild is actually a return to form and a return that owes it lineage to the original NES game, through games like Dark Souls into Breath of the Wild. Interesting to also consider from the generational stand point as there is also a Zelda community that formed around bot the original NES game and then a different and new community that formed around A Link to the Past. Hope this adds something to the convo. thanks for the great content, as always!
This videos a bit old, but to create a new save in BOTW or TOTK, you create another profile on the Switch, then you can have more than one save. So you switch between the profiles to switch the playthrough.
Funny thing is I loved the Alatreon fight because it made elemental weapons actually matter. I'm a firm advocate in Monster Hunter for the Elemental Weapon that targets the monsters Elemental Weakness should be the only weapon that deals the best damage against said monster.
25:48 I can understand why Ratatoskr is critical of how clever Aloy is. (Spoilers if anyone reading this) I think it could be because she is a clone. Or that she grew up on the outside observing and had a lot of time to reflect. Forbidden West I only played up until I reached the forbidden west. I was very exhausted by the conversations between Aloy and the other characters. I sped through Zero Dawn in a day or two before Forbidden West released and was all caught up with the story. The way everyone wanted Aloy to appreciate them for praising her on saving the world, and then everyone got bitchy because Aloy was busy doing it again and didn’t have any time for them. I wish I didn’t play the second game because of that.
1:27:24 It might be worth checking into 76 again, atleast playing it with a few friends. The has come good ways from how it started and is fairly fun on your own. 2:06:25 What if its like Imulsion from Gears? A living petroleum like substance
1:28:40 Ruri, if you love space sci fi stuff, have you ever played Outer Wilds? Not "The Outer Worlds", but Outer Wilds. It is a small game that can be finished in about 30 hours (including the DLC), and it is the best space exploration game I have ever played.
Rsetera leak also has description that talk about AC 6 factions such as Resistant force, Extraterrestrial corporation, Mercenary and finally, cultist. The final version of describtion didnt mention cultist tho. So they might hide that for surprise. So melange zealot stuff isnt that far fetch afterall.
I can't judge the story's by thier own Merritt anymore for xenoblade after future redeemed, it feels like it's all one grand narrative. Also rata, I know you read comments, I feel like your gripes with 2 and 3 stem from the fact you didn't go ALL THE WAY with the content. Torna had those Jin moments you are talking about and made both malos and Jin more "defined", while the 3 sidequests for heros and ascension quest make the party of 3 the best most well developed chracter cast out of all 3 games because they get an equal spotlight for thier plights/arcs. My freind told me to go play torna after 2s chapter 6 ends ,best way to do it IMO because it was supposed to be part of chapter 7 in the base game originally but they had to cut it because it was too elaborate.
2:14:08 It didn’t sound like they will take up accessory slots, more like an “accessibility feature” you can enable just like colour blinded or text-to-speech is an accessibility feature. Can you imagine if you had to equip an item to enable colour blinded mode or TTS 😂😂😂
And considering you didn’t catch on to what Ratatoskr meant by “best Final Fantasy 16” you can’t complain about them adding accessibility features for less adept people. I get a lot of hand pain especially with the DualSense controller and might use those accessibility features to alleviate some finger joint strain.
Everyone played Gunbreaker because it was 1. New and 2. Played so unique from other tanks. Having a gunblade was just a cool thing, Squall wasn't really a factor in it's popularity.
Battletech/Mech warrior mechs dont have ICE engines. They use nuclear fusion engines. Sorry. I am a big Battletech fan from 1st/2nd ed back in the early 90s.
Trials of the Sword in Master Mode can be brutal IF you don't know what to do... Because unlike Normal mode where you can chip away the enemy's HP, here you need to be strategic on how you can kill enemies fast but not to lure them all...
Sorry but if fuse is meant to be their answer to weapon durability then its a lazy one. Why they couldn't bring in upgrade shops to this game is far beyond me. Fused weapons are also super simple like a big rock slapped to the end of a stick instead of transforming it into a legit hammer .
I don't know if I missed it, but I'm shocked you guys didn't mention Dead Space or Resident Evil 4 for Game of the Year contenders. I'm absolutely sure both will be nominated. They'll probably lose to TotK though, just because it happens to release this year too and has more widespread appeal.
It's pretty fucking awesome. It helps a great deal, by making weapons so much better than ever and gives you a reason to fight mobs. The Lynel Katana Horn + 2 handed weapon combo is fucking cool.

You are straw manning, they never said it was going to be a souls like in neither of their videos, they said that there would likely be some elements taken from what they learned from Souls and apply to Armored Core, just taking what they learned. Stronger level design, more complex bosses and QOL that Souls provided while still being AC, which guess what? That IS the case. Look I get it the Armor Core community wanting AC to get the attention to “deserves “ and want it to stand on its own. I’ve been in the SMT/Persona so know how this is going to go down. There’s no point trying to start shit with the other community, I’ve seen it with SMT/Persona community and DID NOT GO WELL. Don’t follow the same path.
