So cute! I think I would just attach the flaps between the front and back and then you don't need to cover anything in the middle... If that makes sense, lol. Glue the flaps to the back of your striped piece and then glue your striped piece to the back - you still have your pocket and all of your flaps but you don't have to cover the center.
