    I once did an essay in college about the advantages of driving manual. One that really stood out to me was the development of limb independence. Essentially, you begin to be able to control your limbs independent of one another without the opposite one attempting to mirror it, due to quite often all four limbs having to perform a different action while driving manual. Usually you only see quadrupedal independence developed in drummers, but someone who has driven manual for years will often exhibit nearly the same level of limb independence as a drummer. This also leads to your mind being able to multitask and think more abstract to solve problems.

    I am 72 years old. So I have seen the progress of both manual transmissions and automatic transmissions over the years of my life. I have also driven both manual transmission cars and automatic transmission cars. Because I live in a big city with a lot of stop and go traffic I prefer automatic transmissions. In a big city a manual transmission can be a lot of work, constantly pushing the clutch and shifting gears, with an automatic you can let the transmission do the work for you.

    Another advantage of a manual transmission. If the battery in the car is dead you can push start it.
    Which is handy if you don't have jumper cables OR portable jump box.

    • @JETZcorp
      @JETZcorp 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Depends on how dead the battery is and how modern the car is. If the fuel pump doesn't prime or the ECU doesn't start up, the car still won't start. I've had a couple "push starts" fail to work, where a jump got it going right away. But if it's just barely not cranking over, and especially if you have a bit of a hill to roll down, it can work.

    In an automatic many people drink their soda and text people staring at their phones while casually driving. In a manual car it requires both hands and undivided attention to drive.
    When traffic slows you have to downshift or upshift to speed up, if someone gets in front of you or a traffic light starts to turn red you will likely need to shift and then brake. When the light turns green again you have to be ready to engage the clutch in first, or suffer an embarrassing stutter and stall in the middle of an intersection. This makes you plan to shift on-the-fly with dynamically changing traffic all of the time.

    • @jr-k12
      @jr-k12 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It will interest you to know that there's a level you'll get to while driving a manual that you'd be able to do all these things you mentioned and it'll be just muscle memory.
      I don't advise texting while driving, but I'm guilty of typing names of locations on Google maps especially when I'm in areas I don't feel safe enough to stop.
      I also eat/drink while I drive, very important on long trips😁(don't advise it either)
      One more thing... Brake first before you think of shifting when making a stop. Brake, clutch and then shift to the gear required. You'd get to know why the more you drive a manual

      @sadasdsadsadasdasd914 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jr-k12 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@sadasdsadsadasdasd914 like I said, there's a level you'll get to.
      I do it, so many people do it. You'll just find it hard to believe until you start doing it too.
      Also both your hands aren't always occupied. You only change gears when you need to. Except on roads that require a lot of turning, you can shift to your highest gear within 30 seconds or less. On really small roads, you can just cruise on maybe 3rd and just work with your throttle and brakes until you slow down below that particular gears speed ratio.
      We don't actually shift or use the clutch non stop like people believe. The same way you don't always drop down a gear and overtake, lol... You only get power when you need it.
      Just observe someone who has been daily driving a manual transmission vehicle for years (a lot of years, lol) and observe the way they drive, you'd get it.

    • @sadasdsadsadasdasd914
      @sadasdsadsadasdasd914 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Maybe it's because I live in a city with a lit of traffic, I'm shifting all the time. I just can't imagine the dedication to distraction you would need to put your phone up and down every 10 seconds@@jr-k12

    • @jr-k12
      @jr-k12 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @Drxyz-tk6le Exactly... I really don't know where people got the idea that one can't do these basic things while driving an manual. Sure, as a beginner, these things will be near impossible, but not as an experienced driver.
      The problem is most people on the comments have only seen people who struggle to drive a manual and assume it's the worst (most have only tried it a few times and gave up).
      That's why I always encourage people to watch an experienced driver. When driving on the road, I'm not so focused on where and when I need to change gear or clutch... It's more like second nature or instincts, I just do it

      as for the putting my foot down, if i'm already downshifted into the correct gear then yes i get instant power; something people need to realize with alot of cars nowadays focusing on enthusiast driving, we have alot more control over what our gearbox does than your average mom car or SUV;
      OBJECTIVELY: enthusiast focused transmissions i.e. VW/Audi/Porsche PDK/DSG's, BMW DCT's will remain faster, better, and more responsive than any manual transmission could hope to achieve lest its dogbox; however which transmission you end up with is purely of your own volition and is more often than not up to personal preference.

    The driver has greater control in a manual car, especially when driving on sand and through water... The driver can adjust the speed and the RPM for the driving conditions. Also, when doing high speeds and needing to make a turn, the driver can drop down the gears for the turn, and sense the speed to slow down to while braking. Unlike an automatic car, where from high speed to just braking, the driver must guess what speed to brake to to turn the corner. Like a right hand corner, the manual driver can take at 2nd gear and can hear the engine RPM as well as see the speedometer, but in an automatic car, only the speedometer can be used.

    The best of both worlds is a modern 6-gear automatic (planetary gears + torque converter) with full manual override - i.e. when you put it in 'S', you can control the gears manually with the up-down button. When in 'D' shifts are automatic. My Focus 2016 has this. I use 'D' in town and heavy traffic, and use 'S' on the open road. In this gearbox, manual shifts are prompt and effortless, and keep you in full control.

    I had a bmw 118d manual, went onto a bmw x5 auto. Then back onto an Audi a4 black edition manual. As luxurious as the x5 was. The 1series and the Audi are so much better on fuel. Engine size from 3 liter to 2 liter has a significant influence on it. But the X5 did 22mpg and we use it on a 2 mile school run so 4 miles total. You can get more from a bmw manual M140i petrol engine 3 litre. Automatic is so much less fuel efficient.

    Automatic cars have matched or beat the efficiency of manual cars in USDM, JDM, KDM, and EURO markets. It seems that where this video originated from is in a lesser developed nation that protects their car manufacturers with either state run businesses, tariffs, or trade blocking. Now, the novelty of manual transmission are fun, I have a motorcycle and have owned manual cars that were fun to drive, but there's a reason F1, SuperGT, IMSA racing series are using DSG, sequential automatic transmissions in the most powerful, efficient, race cars of all time.

Best way to keep from rolling back. Just don't sit the whole time with the clutch half engaged or it will burn it
