    Great podcast, I've watched it a few times and I've learned a lot.
    I know this is an old video, and you probably won't see this comment, but watching this video again has made me want to get something off of my chest.
    During the DCC St. Jude charity stream I sent you and Goth a shameless plug on Twitter saying I'd donate X dollars for X TH-cam subscribers I gained while the event was going on. I doubt you guys even saw it, but it was sent regardless. I regretted sending it shortly after and couldn't sleep that night. It still pops into my head every week and I am super ashamed that I stooped that low. I didn't gain any subscribers during that stream, and looking back, I am very glad I didn't. I was "hungry" (greedy and selfish) and used a good, selfless cause to try to promote myself. The guilt has stuck with me, and has now driven me to try to grow naturally and honestly.
    I'm very sorry for disrespecting you, the stream, and St. Jude

    As somebody who likes to look at channel growth from a psychological perspective, Charisma is one of the biggest factors in any entertainment industry. Also reciprocity; if you're always raiding smaller channels it will greatly increase your chances of being raided yourself, there is also intonation, the greater degree of variability in your pitch, the more entertaining a channel is to watch. In the english language it falls on the speaker to be able to convey all of the information, thus the clearer you speak the more likely somebody will stay.

    so much truth to this discussion. thankfully, i'm 55 and i can devote my "free" time to streaming. i've spent over 1000 hours the 1st 6 months of 2017 playing World of Tanks Blitz to grow to 1K on TH-cam. Now, I'm starting on Twitch because it's a different platform and I'm playing World of Tanks (PC). it seems like I'm starting from scratch on Twitch as my YT audience for the most part are either not coming over because of the d/l speed is not variable or they aren't interested in the variation of the game I'm playing. love this show and look forward to watching the rest of the series

    Thank you so much for this podcast! Was immensely blunt, honest, and encouraging. I did realize a lot of these factors. But there's a lot I didn't. I'm rethinking my setup once again regarding streambots, titles, and especially giveaways. I knew the number of hours. I work a day job while doing this and get about 2-4 hours of sleep a night.

    Fantastic overview, I loved this. Learned about lots of new streamers.
    I suppose the only person I didn't see covered here, was how do you go from "0 followers to your first 10".
    Getting that first handful of people who come in is difficult because there is so much saturation on Twitch.

    This is great, you all have some amazing experience! And since TH-cam is going downhill, I'm going to take a break from my channel and try to get into Twitch, using your 101's as a bit of a guide. I'm not in it for long term career prospects, but god damn am I becoming obsessed with the fun and attention of being a content creator :) And my net just got upgraded from .6Mbit to 5Mbit, so I can finally start out streaming at a reasonable quality.

    I've been streaming off and on for 2 years and I feel like I could really put a lot more into it. I think the reality is that I get burnt out playing the same game (Monster Hunter Series) all the time because... people just tend to use you as a platform to level up etc and donations are like non existent. Which really puts me off from streaming it. I want to do this full time but i'm afraid of losing my community in an effort to make this a successful business model...

    I remember the first time I got raided a few weeks into streaming. It was at the worst time too, I was modding skyrim, I just broke my game, was trying to fix it while dealing with my 2 year old, lol it was chaos. The next day I went to the streamers channel who raided me and was chatting with her and she started asking me about my channel. So I answered all the questions she asked with simple answers and in ways to not sound "self promotey" but all of the questions were about my stream. As soon as I mentioned my channel I was insta banned by a mod. The streamer lost her mind on the mod and unbanned me within a minute but it was a reminder of the hair pin trigger some mods have.

  • @xMACHOxMANx
    @xMACHOxMANx 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I agree with the video. I really do. But when it comes to Twitch itself as a company it's not new guy friendly. Since all they ever promote are the really big guys. The guys with hundreds and thousands of followers and views meanwhile the new guys are 60 to 70 pages deep in the back. I mean seriously how are people suppose to see your stream when you're so far back? I wish twitch would do a shoutout on twitter or any social media platform of the smaller guys also. But I know they won't.

    • @bmh072k7
      @bmh072k7 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not a streamer yet but something I think could help would be to promote your twitch channel on your TH-cam channel and other social media. I'm trying to get started and am thinking of creating a separate TH-cam channel specifically for that purpose. Live stream a little here too and also upload some gameplay footage while linking to my twitch stream with stream time.

    I agree with a lot of what you said. I've been streaming for a while and I grow daily with new friends and I always try to one up myself, the only thing I feel like I would have discussed is: Is it true about mob mentality of people on twitch when it comes to higher view count > low viewer count streams. How a lot of people will see view count and click on the stream or won't. Lots of people tend to see high views and think AMAZING stream! And a lot of people will see a small view stream and automatically think they're bad. It kinda goes the same with TH-cam videos. Some of your advice I will definitely take.

    I noticed this when I started streaming but, I'm an extroverted personality (I get more pumped as more people come to watch). But, as a beginner your viewers count is often below 3 at most. And one thing I hate is a viewer is a silent streamer. They don't fill the "dead air" with commentary or anything unique. So I ask: If you could Ask yourself 5 questions to Answer EVERY stream (to keep yourself talking) what would you ask?

    Resident Evil has been my passion since I was six years old, scared the hell out of me as a kid! I mainly use twitch, but hopefully make some walk throughs or live plays for the youtube account by the time that game releases (a veteran of RE2 playing the new generation type of atmosphere). I think the most viewers I had at a time I believe was like 5 or 6 while playing For Honor (PS4). Thanks for this advice, I'm unfortunately not the most tech savvy person, but I hope applying some of these tips I can get the view count up a little by the time RE2 Remake drops! Thanks again guys, and anyone with any additional tips or info, please feel free to contact me : ]

    What if the game has low viewership? I want to stick with Star Wars the Old Republic
    but it almost never reaches a total of 200 viewers for the whole community. Should you STILL stick with one game if the game has
    low viewership? OR should you pick ONE game that is popular and stick with that? Because if you are trying to build a big
    community it doesnt make sense to me to pick one game that no one is going to watch.?

  • @jwaffle42

    It's simple supply and demand of business. People have a demand to watch one game. And if you want to supply those people then you don't supply other people's demands for other games.

    I don't have a working capture method, yet. so, I upload all my twitch streams straight to youtube from twitch. would it be better to split the stream into 15 minute segments or to leave it as the whole 1-3 hour long video? I know this a pretty old video, but I hope you see this and get back to me and thank you for your time.

    Does anyone know of any distributors who upload your podcast to all major platforms the same way onerpm and cd baby do for music. A one stop shop that shows you statistics. Second question. Do ppl make money from a certain amount of streams just like music?
