If Portugal had lost today, all eyes would have been on Ronaldo and the penalty he missed. These ''pundits'' don't understand the pressure he feels. 99% of pundits haven't even been near Ronaldo in terms of level and what people expect from them on the field.
For some reason they expect top players to be emotionless machines- make a mistake, move on. But it isn't always that simple when you know the whole world is watching and expecting a lot from you.
But it's no different than all the other disrespect Ronaldo's gotten since the beginning of his career. Always been like that. Doesn't matter what narrative the media wants to paint.

As a portuguese watching this just maked me laugh. The first comentator said i don´t know what type of reaction ronaldo wanted to show when he cried, like he is not a human. He was just sad for losing the penalty and he loves portugal so much that could not contain his emotions. When you represent your country you think about your family, your friends and all the promises and dreams that you had as a child. That´s why you see every single player for each country playing to their limit. Ronaldo had a weak moment but he for sure is not a weak minded person. I am sure that he will be better next game. I'm not a CR7 fan, but crying because you didn't score the penalty is not "utterly embarrassing". He was obviously frustrated with not scoring at all the whole game and because it might be his last big competition. He cried at the last euro too when he got injured. What's "utterly embarrassing" is living in a society that thinks it's ok to be aggressive, abusive and violent, but gets "embarrassed" by sensitive moments.

Look i've always been honest about my preference for Messi, but there comes a point in life where reality kicks in. For some it's sooner than for others. In Ronaldo's head, he's still 25, still capable of performing. People forget that when you are obsessed with something, and don't know any better, the second you realize you're not the same as before, it can hit you extremely hard. Ronaldo has been fighting all the slander, all the scrutiny since the beginning, and shut people up every time. Nothing he's done beyond 30 years old will affect his legacy as one of the greatest ever. You can tell he's working even harder to stay fit at 39 and tries to literally fight against aging.
He's has his toxic traits, but at the end of the day, it's totally understandable why he would cry. For me it felt like he finally accepted he can't do it alone anymore. Mark my words, this could change Portugal's entire trajectory this euros. Wouldn't surprise me if he humbles himself and they win the tournament now.

And that almost happened, Cristiano tried so many times and also missed the penalty which was devastating for his mental focus . But despite that he scored penalty and goalkeeper did a fine job and all players were happy and cristiano as well .
