    Like most people who enjoy animation I wish there were more animations in The Criterion Collection.
    I think the best would be Loving Vincent, The Iron Giant, When the Wind Blows, or really anything directed by Ralph Bakshi.
    For Live Action maybe something like: The Day The Earth Stood Still, or The Death of Stalin.

    Fantastic suggestions as always. Here in the UK we get just a small slice of the Criterion collection but some do get released on other boutique labels. Kelly Reichardt and The Coen brother’s films are desperately needed here (we only have a few) but at least we have all of the wonderful Wes Anderson films. Do you think we’ll get a 4K of Asteroid City or The French Dispatch?
    What I’d really be excited for is more from John Sayles. Lone Star was so incredible I picked up Matewan straight after. But that’s it! That’s all we have on Blu-ray from him. We need Criterion and other boutique labels to release great films by independent filmmakers that Hollywood weren’t interested in. If not now I feel we may never get them.

    • @CinemaDaveMedia
      @CinemaDaveMedia  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks! Would love to see 4Ks for Asteroid City and/or French Dispatch. More John Sayles would be good too. I completely agree that Criterion and other labels need to support great films by independent filmmakers. Hope you have a great rest of the week.

      I’d second these comments as a Brit. We don’t get many Criterion releases over here, and often they’re films that have already been available. Criterion have many US releases of films that have never been out over here, and quite likely never will be at this rate.

    I once day dreamed about having my own Criterion like Collection and "Big Lebowski" would've been the first film I've chosen for it. Totally agree. Also with "American Splendor", what a magnificent movie. And yes, it is a great companion piece to Crumb, cause I believe Crumb also is one of the characters in it. It's a very different comic book and very different comic book adaptation, so very well deserve a spot in the Collection.

    I cannot wait for the rest of Wes Anderson’s oeuvre to be added to the Criterion Collection, Scorsese as well. I would also like to see Kevin Smith’s Clerks be given the Criterion treatment as well as have Chasing Amy reprinted on Blu-ray/4K, but I know the licensing is in limbo since the collapse of Miramax and the Weinstein bros. fall from grace. Hi Dave. I've been a Criterion fan from the Laserdisc years & every now & then I wonder why certain movies never made it to Criterion. Four titles are always on my mind. One of them is "Gigot" starring Jackie Gleason. I saw it as a child & loved it. My second title is "St. Louis Blues" with Nat King Cole. This one has a stellar cast & must be on Criterion! My third & fourth titles are "The Jolson Story" & "Jolson Sings Again" with Larry Parks. These two movies are great! "Jolson Sings Again" takes up where "The Jolson Story" ends. I've always had this wish that these two movies be released on Blu-Ray restored with bonus features. One of those bonus features on a separate disc would be both movies joined together as one movie (I know it's only wishful thinking. Lol!). Take care. --- Bill

I think the old George Melies (sic) films would be a great addition to the collection as well. I also agree on Lynch’s The Straight Story. I am wondering if Godzilla Minus One will be in the collection. I think it’s strange North America does not have physical media for it yet. I would also like to see a Kurosawa box in HD. Yes, Sorcerer is at best an homage or a remake of Wages of Fear, at worst a rip off. Wages of Fear is the work of the same director who did the famous Diabolique (also in Criterion) which has been paid homage to, remade, and ripped off too.
