    7 FPS? 🤔 they need to call Eagle Dynamics.

      Of course he is going to SAY 7 fps. Same as why the roll of the Typhoon was very steppy. They won't say how good it can really be

    Im interested in these multi projector systems thats gotta be quite impressive to see theres nothing on hte civilian market like it . However im also surprised they dont use already avalible technology . I would imagine it to be alot more cost effective to develop 1:1 scale mods for DCS and you would get the same if not better results because its had so many years of development and the frameworks already there . Security wouldn't be an issue provided it was run on its own branch and used in these secure environments .
    From my time at benson and experiencing the Puma simulators they where years behind in technology compared to the civilian market , plus the video shown today with a typhoon at like 4fps and really poor terrain details makes me think an upgrade would be far easier adapting already available tech rather than building from the ground up .

    Imagine this kind of outside world presentation been introduced in submarine command centres or destroyer ones. Having all the relevant data displayed as if you were flying a fighter (albeit in slow motion). I bet that might make naval captains have far better situational awareness, without having to synthesize incoming input from various sensor-, weapons-, and control operators in their heads to a coherent 3D model.
    Besides sharing the picture with the XO, helmsman, etc. becomes also a lot easier, enabling them to step in or see things a data saturated captain may not see (think of the analogy with the added value of a navigator/RIO in the backseat of a fighter in highly contested airspace; two pairs of eyes eyes see more than one pair). With the introduction of hypersonic weapons, naval warfare seems to be nearing the OODA_loop doctrine by John Boyd. The decision making process needs to be considrably shortened. Here's an instrument that may help to do just that.
    And it might be pretty effective for crews of armored vehicles as well if such a picture was projected in a helmet mounted display, similar to how 3D VR goggles are used for a game like DCS.
    If I'm not mistaking a Turkish company (I believe Aselsan) is giving it a shot for submarines. Would be interesting to see how that works out.

    How will this translate into actually flying the aircraft in combat situations while having to operate all the controls? In a simulator, you aren’t going to feel the G’s or -G’s that you would when flying, and if you’re inverted then you won’t be feel yourself being pulled from your seat, etc.
    Also, no technology will ever beat the reality of actually looking out of the cockpit and seeing the real world around you with your own eyes.
    I just hope that these simulators only account for a small percentage of a pilots training, and that our future pilots will have sufficient real experience behind them for when they do enter a zone of conflict.

  • @banana1618

    this is a start.... but the "aircraft" itself looks as if it is stationary - the pilot is not experiencing any movement: not sure any real engagement would be in a 'stationary' format.... which means that a lot of what is learned in this facility would have to be relearned whilst "up there" actually flying. Putting aside the 'hype', I wonder what an independent evalutaion of this sytem would reveal?

      @Bennie but still very small, it's an understandable decision but still somewhat discouraging. Only if the ratio was a bit more equal, even 40% to 60% it would still be a lot better.

      technically true, but when your career is on the line, and you're up against retired pilots on the other side of the screen, you bet it's a HARDCORE fight to the death. Games give as much as you put it. If you put your heart and soul into it, you get that much back.

      I think VR would be quite hard to implement along with the HMDs that they use in real cockpits.
      They're also trying to keep the cockpit as physical and real as possible, so some combined HMD/VR headset wouldn't work well and likely just cause confusion.

      Simulators are widely used in all armed forces. I’ve trained on the army version of these and there no difference on the range bar the noise it does what it says it simulates.

    • @Johnny641
      @Johnny641 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Of cost it is cost cutting, but in a positive way, live training costs money.
      I served on Tanks, we got to live fire twice a year max, when simulation got added, the real world training didn't get reduced it just gave us more training between live firing which made crews actually more competitant.
      Simulation is not designed to remove real world training but be an addition to it.
      With simulation they can actually create situations you could not practically do in the real world training and repeat them over and over again. So when the pilots do get to use real munitions for training they actually get more out of it.

    • @tams805
      @tams805 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Patient-Unknown Yeah, even for the infantry virtual training can be great.
      Live firing on an actual range can of course not be replaced, but using a virtual range is far cheaper (those rounds add up!) and allow for instant resets at very low costs. There's also greater safety and no need be concerned about the weather outside.
