This episode made me uncontrollably laugh like no other. The moment "What is Love?" started playing, dancing animations and Grover nerding out about war history and giving a therapy session to Ares while playing him like a fiddle absolutely got me 😂

Is it horrible that I'm excited to see Walker cry more, cause he's so stinkin good at it?~~~ His barely held back tears had me in a chokehold~ Someone his age has no business being that good at that!!!

Really love how they're taking care of the kids. It's evident with their behind the scenes and during press tour that they are so loved and supported by the cast and crew. They let them be kids and they get to goof around with each other during filming. They have a classroom, snack bars, etc. on site. They even have so much freedom during interviews, they do not sound uptight and they just act silly even during interviews. It's also maybe the reason why their chemistry is off the charts. They get to be friends irl. Love when kids act like kids!

Those cliffhangers, get used to them lol. Rick is KNOWN for his cliffhangers to the point that some of his books literally had us panicking hard core because of how he ended them and the next book wasnt published yet. IYKYK

The "What Is Love" part took me out too 😂 Then Percy had the audacity to make me feel old by not even knowing what it was called lmao
Also I love that the show is leaning into the generational trauma angle even harder than the books, I think it's adding more emotional depth to both the characters and the quest narrative. Most of the story changes seem to be serving the theme of breaking bad family cycles, only in this case the family in question are the gods. I think it also adds more nuance to the main conflict and who is really on the "right" side, can't say more due to spoilers but if you know you know
On the ADHD part, I agree - I recently found out I probably went undiagnosed for my entire childhood so I appreciate both the books and this series showing the nuances of what it can actually look like instead of perpetuating a harmful stereotype. There's little markers that come out in Percy's behavior that Walker is doing a great job of translating from book to screen, like the emotional impulsivity towards Ares, his intense sense of fairness (referred to as "justice sensitivity"), and his rejection sensitivity towards his dad's neglect (rejection sensitivity dysphoria - RSD). Less sophisticated portrayals of ADHDers will just have them act hyper or unfocused, which can still be characteristics but only scratch the surface of how ADHD can manifest. Annabeth is even a bigger counterexample to the stereotypes as she fits more into the "gifted child" bracket - what's interesting is that a lot of girls like myself who grew up as Annabeth types got completely overlooked in the diagnosis area because our behavior didn't present itself in the same way as the hyperactive boys. Having a girl character with ADHD who is portrayed as exceptionally intelligent instead of as a "problem child" is very important representation imo, I think the fact that Rick nailed this over 15 years before scientific research caught up to him speaks to how much he cared about painting kids like his son (who has ADHD and dyslexia) in a positive light

Love this because I think it's not talked about a lot. They really are nailing the portrayal of being neurodivergent. I myself have been undiagnosed all my life until I figured out last year that I might have ADHD as an adult and masked it growing up. I love seeing the subtle signs of it and how much they put a lot of thought accurately representing it. I'm pretty sure in the books it's not as explained though, hence why reading it as a kid, I thought ADHD is all just hyperactivity. So kudos to them for updating their knowledge about adhd and dyslexia.

This conversation about kid actors reminds me of how the Harry Potter cast talked about how comfortable they felt in being kids on set...can you imagine how awful of an experience it would be to go through that whole phase of their lives and not have a pleasant environment?I mean it was already overwhelming with the public pressure and attention, thank God they had the sense to keep them safe during filming it from what they related

I loved watching Percy Jackson Episode 5! As a book reader, it was so exciting to finally see some of my favorite scenes come to life on screen. The special effects were awesome, especially during the battle scenes. The casting for the characters was spot on, and they really brought the characters to life. The pacing of the episode was great, and I liked how they stayed true to the original story while still adding their own unique twists. The ending was a great cliffhanger, and I can't wait to see what happens next. Overall, I'm really enjoying this adaptation and can't wait to see more!
