  • A quick tutorial on how to create a Median U-Turn (MUT) Interchange, otherwise known as a Michigan Urban Diamond Interchange (MUDI) in Cities Skylines 2 gameplay.
    Will this service interchange fix your traffic in Cities Skylines 2 or will it make it worse?
    Hint: This is unlikely to be the best interchange in Cities Skylines 2.

    Hello, I loved your video. I'm from Michigan in the US, where we use these interchanges everywhere. There are a few things to note about the interchange that could give it more context and use case. The interchange type is used exclusively here in Michigan with our sunken freeways. ( I696, M10, etc.) The interchange type gets its strength from being medium-density but very compact. We have almost every mile, so traffic flow is never backed up. City skylines simulation is also accurate with the left turn over the freeway to the right turn; it is a 4-lane and challenging merge.

      Hi, glad you enjoyed the video. Appreciate the info and the examples where they're used. I struggled to find them when i was searching so that was great of you to share; and you're not wrong, they are everywhere on those roads. It's giving me some inspiration for CS2 now, I might end up with a full highway of these with a sunken highway, that could look pretty good! Also, I found a cool turbine/stack interchange near Angelo Iafrate Construction, I think I'll try and make a video on that, i'll give you a shoutout if I do!

    Nice idea, thanks for the vid.
    What I noticed in CS2 so far, hundreds of compact ramps+overpasses do the job of avoiding any jams when dealing with high density cities. They even look good because they are so many (for every block of a city basically). It's a game after all,and the money is easy so far.

      Thank you. Oh yeah, nothing stopping you getting creative with this game. Plenty of interchanges are definitely required to keep things moving :)

    Some of the better intersections in the US are called diamond interchanges. The road that crosses over the highway has drivers on the left hand side of the road instead of the right. That allows traffic coming off the highway to either turn right, or turn left and get to the next intersection before having to stop.

      Hi David. i think you might be describing a diverging diamond interchange. Got a video here if you're looking to build it th-cam.com/video/iPJ6EIH6WVE/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=Piccana :) Hope you have a great day mate.

    I found that same picture too, and actually made it in city skylines one absolutely demolishes traffic never thought about remaking it in city skylines 2. I would recommend at the stoplight merge to have it 2 lane and then 3 lane at the intersection.

    I think it almost makes sense to have the 2 additional lanes of the elevated sections on the outside instead of the inside of the loop. This would lead to left-turning traffic to have a smoother straight and the highway ramps could easily compensate for the asymetry.
    Also, did you consider a complex curve for the highway ramps? could be a bit smoother too
    Oh, and awesome design, can't wait to build that in my city :D

    • @piccana_
      @piccana_  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All good ideas! The issue with getting the 2 additional lanes on the outside is that when you bring the U-turn section onto the inside of that 4 lane, the lower highway gets in the way. You can work around that by deleting the lower highway, drawing the U-turn in, then double click on the u-turn to create a new pillar node next to the old one, then draw the highway back in. Bit of a faff putting that in a video though :)
      Complex curve is a good shout. I definitely under use that tool. Haha.
      Glad you enjoyed it though. Good stuff! 😊

      @@piccana_ oh, no, dont put the offramp to 4 lanes. they work perfectly with 2 lanes 1 way. You mentioned around 1:16 to make sure the extra lanes are on the inside of the circle. my proposal was to put them on the outside instead. That way, traffic going straigt ahead doesn't have to do that wiggly movement to stay in lane

    • @piccana_
      @piccana_  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Chrizzey49 All good. We're talking about the same section. I maybe did a poor job of explaining on my last comment 😂
      Basically, there was issues attaching the u-turns when the extra lanes were created on the outside. 👍

    • @Chrizzey49
      @Chrizzey49 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@piccana_gotcha. I played with it a bit and you will need a tiny straight section for the offramp in that case :)

    How many idiots blowing past their offramp do you expect, guy? a standard 4 ramp, two lane overpass configuration allows you to do the same thing.
