It would be cool to see him on a podcast here but I feel like if he does people are just gonna go insane asking for him again to be on more stuff and suddenly every video people will be expecting Anthony to collab in it.
Ice. I mean mat was on smosh games a few times under defy. Don’t get me wrong Rhett and link are infinitely better but May has been in smosh videos in the past
Mat talking about his baby and all this stuff about growth and learning and impact is amazing to hear. Especially from someone like him. Great voice, great presence, great person. I appreciate him so much for what he does and who he is, and I'm happy you invited him onto the show.
Did anyone else feel that at some point this seemed like Matpat's podcast and not a Smosh one? He's SO good at opening the conversation and following through with questions, it seemed like he was the host.
This one is much more provocative and enjoyable than the Michael Jackson one. Really enjoyed Mat Pat. Hope to see him again. Maybe with Shayne and Damien.
1:19:00 Yeah, Matt's right. If Hairspray taught me anything (beyond the whole "racism is bad" thing), it's that you can have a newcomer AND make & sell a great product. There's an actual tradition that Tracy Turnblad is always some girl's debut (and that Edna is always played by a man), and it's always worked great, because they had to care about the quality of who they cast.
This has been probably my favorite SmoshCast so far. I really loved the topics they chose and the flow of conversations. I really liked the section on critical thinking -- I was blessed to grow up in a home and school environment where we were told to learn things in multiple ways. My parents still get all of the major newspapers in the area to cover the biases, and I still remember one of my teachers telling me about how truth is most similar multi-faceted gemstone, where you can only get a good picture of it by looking at many of the faces, so you should learn as many sides as possible. :)
It feels like Mat is hosting this podcast and Ian and Courtney are the guests. I appreciate how he is carrying the conversation and asking relevant and leading questions to learn more about both of them
I gained a lot of respect for Courtney around 55:00 because of how much of an open mind she has. Most TH-camrs (especially those living in LA) are quick to shun the other side of the political debate and ignore the problems with both sides, but she pointed out as well as Ian that there is bullshit on both sides, and part of being an informed person requires that you are skeptical of the things you hear on the media, even if it’s a channel that you typically agree with. So, yeah, Courtney and Ian are cool. +1 respect
I love how logical matpat is... this podcast was funner than usual, Maybe in future podcasts do an interactive episode with your followers... I think it can be interesting
But they're not very successful at teaching critical thinking, i would assume. It's more of something to be developed by oneself rather than to be taught. You can't just be like "this is what critical thinking is, so use it more in your everyday lives".
Not sure if this is relevant, but I just really want to say that I had a history teacher who really pushed us to critically think. He was the very first teacher that opened up critical thinking to me and was such a good one. I deeply admired him and I wish more teachers would be like that, since critical thinking is such a good skill and should be something that’s taught more in school (at least here in America).
@@anons.9200 Nah, it can totally be taught! We were shown examples and how the perspective could change the story completely, then taught how to analyze sources' objectiveness by comparing it to other sources and looking into if the author/researcher/whatever would have any reason to skew the facts in one way or another. We'd do it for every paper that required research in every class after learning it and be graded on it. And yes, that's for school, but you get in a habit of thinking critically when you do it a lot and know how big of a difference it makes.
@@anons.9200 Critical thinking cant be "taught" but it needs to be introduced to everyone so they can develop and polish it themselves. What critical thinking is,how to see through biases, how to not get overwhelmed with an opinion, being open minded to hear the other side of a story etc topics should be discussed to a teen

I think the Genie is the one role who needed a known person, as he is so strongly connected to Robin Williams. Will Smith felt odd, but not as jarring as an unknown person would have been. This, of course, presumes that live-action remakes should be made in the first place.
Matpat talking about the US media blowing things out of proportion during the Egyptian revolution. Trust me, these are nothing compared to the Egyptian media!
