One of the biggest issues I don't see being discussed is the fact that the new boots rely on the ranger boots. So once they make those boots worth upgrading to, there simply won't be enough ranger boots to create the new boots causing them to become hella expensive.
New boots are hella good man. You just have ironman brain if you're in max you're almost always bringing eternals and prims and if pegs had +1 range you'd have all 3 at most content.

People don't lug the boots around because it's not worth the inventory slot for the switch. But you'll now just get the small upgrade/benefit by default from wearing these boots for all pvm content that requires 2 or 3 combat styles. I don't think it's as shit as you are making it out to be.
My issue with it is that you have to get so many upgrades just to avoid a boot switch. These feel very lack luster for the difficulty to obtain the item + the insane level of items needed to make the upgrade. Ill stick with aranea boots because I cba to go through the effort just to have such a slight upgrade you need a microscope to see the increased dps you get from them. Also, I agree that 150k pair of D boots over these 100-200m pair of hybrid boots isnt even a question for the vast majority of players who arent sitting on max cash/ironmen.

Antler guard is definitely content for pures disguised as a progression item. I'm shocked it doesn't have a passover that gives access to chivalry without the quest.
I think the antler guard is really designed for people that want to AFK Melee slayer, which it seems to be an adequate item for. Trading some melee stats for more AFK time to before needing to hit a prayer pot. It also fills a niche of having an actually meaningful low-ish level ranged off-hand for irons that isn't tied to clue scroll RNG. It's niche, but I don't really see the hate people give it.
I mean the Bandos God Book provides the same level of prayer, is cheap and easy af to get, and provides +2 str bonus. not +5, sure... But doesnt really seem like much of a gap that needed filling on the prayer aspect.

They should just make the Antler Guard better than the dragon defender. It would be a nice stop gap between the dragon defender you get like day 3 or 4 of an account and the avernic you aren't touching until a year or more into one typically. Give it flat 25 melee accuracy bonus, 10 accuracy for both range and mage, matching defense bonuses [or +0 to all defenses if they're married to it needing to be mid], +6 Strength, +5 Prayer, +5 Ranged Strength, and +2% Magic Strength. They want it to be a tribrid prayer-based off-hand and I think all that keeps that intact without busting it. The bonuses to Prayer, Magic strength, and ranged strength as well as positive ranged/magic accuracy and defense bonuses would make it better than the early game untradeables accounts are typically using [god books, dragon defender], but it would still be comfortably worse than the dedicated endgame off-hands [Avernic, Buckler, Ward] while being close enough it's still viable for end game content to reduce switches if you're okay hitting slightly worse. Make the antler guard drop from only the Elder version of the slayer creature while the lower level slayer creatures drop antlers that can be crafted with a yew shield to create the antler guard.
They tried to do this and the issue is the difference between ddef and avernic is basically 0 so there's nowhere to put a new defender without devaluating the crap out of avernic
The cape should remain tradable if this meant to be like high level vorkath (a novel idea) and not meant to be our mage inferno. the boot upgrade is fine imo but it does make for rather insane upgrade path but they are great boots on their face. With binning everything and making the cape unreadable I don’t really see how this is ever gonna be the high level vorkath. It’s gonna just be you doing this content until wave 8 get the boot upgrade for the log. Maybe the weapon and cape along the way and then no one is gonna touch it. I think they should maybe rework a lot of this shit.
The boot upgrade isnt a guaranteed drop at wave 8. Could still be very rare and hard to get. The now untradable cape upgrade is the guaranteed drop at wave 8.
The boots are fine the way they are IMO. You're getting all the stats of 3 boots without the negatives associated with them into 1 pair of boots, and we'll now get a max hit with the fang in places like TOA since people with a shadow take the Eternals in anyway. It's nowhere near as shit as it's being made out to be. The convenience of a 3 in 1 alone is worth it let alone avoiding the negatives associated with each pair.

It would appear I have changed my opinion and have to agree with you that the threads should be buffed. Their response shows this was supposed to be the premium reward of the boss and that should be reflected. However, this buff should be rather slight. Buffing all 3 styles at once by any margin is just BEGGING for power creep. It's a delicate balance. The big green guy knows a thing about balance, so let's ask him.
The boots are a fail, no one brings 3 boots anywhere, ever. Ditch the tribrid, combine eternal and pegasians and buff both while simultaneously buffing the elidinis ward to stop the shadow from going crazy. Buffing the ward solves a lot of problems, or make the sang actually stronger than the trident. The cape's proposed updates are nice. The spec weapon update is fine. There's no scenario where you actually get the Antler guard BEFORE the dragon defender in this scenario. Doesn't fit as a 'before' Dragon Defender type. The dragon defender is not hard to get nor does it take a lot of time. Will absolutely have defender prior to this piece. Useless. Feel like Jagex is missing on these updates

The only reason I wanted the cape to be untradeable is because I assumed it was supposed to be the new bis mage cape. If they were planning on adding a different bis mage cape later on down the line that's better than this one then I don't care if this one is tradable.
Are we forgetting cost as a factor here? Pretty sure BP costs more than a Sunlight hunter cbow, and the guard makes another budget upgrade. They don’t always have to design around everyone having max cash for upgrades.
I see so many comments about the boots being great. I look at it this way... The boots are nothing more than a QoL update for people with max cash that can afford to drop 100-200m on a set of hybrid boots. Id say it doesnt justify the hefty price tag they will have, but then again, neither do prims or ranger boots, and yet theyre expensive...Ill stick with my aranea boots that are very nice hybrid boots and not too expensive =) Now all I have to do is make it to wave 8 for the guaranteed cape and I wont ever touch this boss again. I feel the items should be like this, the boots need to add 1 extra % to range mage and melee str, boom there is a nice nice reward.... even the range strength is enough as it is really still nice. As for eldritch veil..... it ahould be tradeable and add the thrall upgrade as its effect, make it needs the demonic mark to upgrade to eldritch veil and use crystals or whatever resource to add charges to use the effect which gives a continuous demand to do the content. The demonbane weapon remains unchanged as ita nice and good where its at. As for another reaward suggestion as this is endgame a fourth nice reward could berelated to ralos and ranul , like blessing of the sun and moon which adds more prayer bonus than radas blessing 4, but also adds a run recharge effect or adds 1 accuracy for melee and magic.... thats my suggestions that i think helps the debacle and makes it a more of a drive to do the content repeatedly so its not dead content
so valamore is just stepping stone for mid level players and doesnt benefit high level end game like this is good for mid players but us high level max players wouldnt mind upgrade too.
The point of the boots is that they're bis hybrid boots. Not to dominate 1 specific combat type. But to make it so that you do make use of all 3 boots, instead of just wearing 1 and banking the rest. (I personally use eternal boots, if not echos or aranea.)

He says no one is lugging around all three boots which is exactly why no buffs to the boots is the way to go due to the fact that it buffs 2 of the 3 cb styles that you’re not already getting with using the 1 pair. It also helps with avoiding too much power creep. Boots overall will be like 70/80m can be used everywhere but prioritized in multi cb areas like torm dem/gor all the way up to inf/raids. I think boots are a great update leaning towards more end mid/late to late game content where damage output is more priority over defense

- Give boots a combat passive - Change weapon effect from demon niche to something else, we have enough demon weapons - Make weapon upgradeable via a rare special piece that comes from wave 8+ - Add 2 more uniques to this. 1 ranged one since mage/melee already have some. And then one more untradeable upgrade that *isnt* guaranteed like cape.

So I don't really get this. Maybe it's cause I have a shadow but I camp eternal at toa, and being able to also add prim stats to them for melee rooms is just more better. Same with like cox. You just get a little bit of extra dps out of 2 of 3 raids

Personally I hate content like fight cave, inferno, colosseum. The first completion I get it. But after you have done it a few times it’s so mind numbing boring. Last 10 waves or even just the final fight after you complete would be a god send. Even if each time you completed you skipped one wave so you had to get a lot of kc first. Still that would be aids but significantly better.

I'm so pissed they decided to make the mage cape upgrade untradeable. I don't want everything to have to be locked behind some form of wave based mini games or bosses. I play a regular main to buy items when I can if it's needed for my account for the sake of convenience.

You're definitely lugging 2 pairs of boots around at a lot of content, plus if pegs had +1 strength people would bring that switch. You use blowpipe in like every raid in the game including inferno. The boots are a very big upgrade as is for max mains (who the content is designed for). The boots will be nice for all roles in tob because you use all styles at nylo boss. I think dropping the veil is fine but you need more than 1 reward from this content for it to be worthwhile.
If it’s not meant to be an eventual bis cape, link it to thralls in some way. Keep the consumable idea and give the cape an extra slot like the quiver, to synergies with thralls but not an overall bis cape. And for balance of this next other top tier cape ffs nerf the Shadow a tad, it’s fucking the entire mage tree.
They also just shit the bed and made osrs mobile unplayable making a .5sec stutter whenever any action is performed including eating, changing gear, changing prayer, changing menus, ANYTHING. Before this ive been unable to tap to walk under other players (I moved the walk here option to the top for bandos, but its broken forever now and is forever the last or first option on clicks) making gotr, wintertodt, Nex mass, Nightmare mass, and honestly anything with players involved is complete trash now on Mobile. Even just forrestry events are screwed. I end up accidentally examining things because the change made that the top option for otherwise regualar objects you wouldnt beable to click on.
Yeah it’s really messy implementation of menu swaps. Until they fix it the best you can do is toggle it on/off for certain activities. I did a full reset to get rid of the follow over walk issue. Now I just swap and then reset for anything major. It’s a pain but better than not having any swaps at all imo. Primarily a desktop player so it doesn’t completely ruin my experience but hoping a fix comes but with the new hd/api features coming they will probably just leave it and let someone else do it (for free) later lol

It also fills a niche of having an actually meaningful low-ish level ranged off-hand for irons that isn't tied to clue scroll RNG.

I mean the Bandos God Book provides the same level of prayer, is cheap and easy af to get, and provides +2 str bonus. not +5, sure... But doesnt really seem like much of a gap that needed filling on the prayer aspect.
@@barfnugz Getting god books on an ironman is a massive RNG fest. You'd easily require several hundred clues before completing one, and it'll likely not be one you actually want, which isn't something a low-ish level ironman would reasonably do.

They should just make the Antler Guard better than the dragon defender. It would be a nice stop gap between the dragon defender you get like day 3 or 4 of an account and the avernic you aren't touching until a year or more into one typically. Give it flat 25 melee accuracy bonus, 10 accuracy for both range and mage, matching defense bonuses [or +0 to all defenses if they're married to it needing to be mid], +6 Strength, +5 Prayer, +5 Ranged Strength, and +2% Magic Strength. They want it to be a tribrid prayer-based off-hand and I think all that keeps that intact without busting it. The bonuses to Prayer, Magic strength, and ranged strength as well as positive ranged/magic accuracy and defense bonuses would make it better than the early game untradeables accounts are typically using [god books, dragon defender], but it would still be comfortably worse than the dedicated endgame off-hands [Avernic, Buckler, Ward] while being close enough it's still viable for end game content to reduce switches if you're okay hitting slightly worse. Make the antler guard drop from only the Elder version of the slayer creature while the lower level slayer creatures drop antlers that can be crafted with a yew shield to create the antler guard.
They tried to do this and the issue is the difference between ddef and avernic is basically 0 so there's nowhere to put a new defender without devaluating the crap out of avernic

The cape should remain tradable if this meant to be like high level vorkath (a novel idea) and not meant to be our mage inferno. the boot upgrade is fine imo but it does make for rather insane upgrade path but they are great boots on their face.
With binning everything and making the cape unreadable I don’t really see how this is ever gonna be the high level vorkath. It’s gonna just be you doing this content until wave 8 get the boot upgrade for the log. Maybe the weapon and cape along the way and then no one is gonna touch it. I think they should maybe rework a lot of this shit.
The boot upgrade isnt a guaranteed drop at wave 8. Could still be very rare and hard to get. The now untradable cape upgrade is the guaranteed drop at wave 8.
Boots should give +1% damage to all attack styles. Keep the +5 str bonus but giving a 1% damage boost overall would make it huge for melee
they should add devout boots to the avernic treads, so we get prayer bonus from them

The boots are fine the way they are IMO. You're getting all the stats of 3 boots without the negatives associated with them into 1 pair of boots, and we'll now get a max hit with the fang in places like TOA since people with a shadow take the Eternals in anyway.
It's nowhere near as shit as it's being made out to be. The convenience of a 3 in 1 alone is worth it let alone avoiding the negatives associated with each pair.

i was looking at the stats of the other defenders and the Antler is on par with the Adamant Defender when it comes to offensive melee stats. Still would use the God Books.

The boots are a fail, no one brings 3 boots anywhere, ever. Ditch the tribrid, combine eternal and pegasians and buff both while simultaneously buffing the elidinis ward to stop the shadow from going crazy. Buffing the ward solves a lot of problems, or make the sang actually stronger than the trident.
The cape's proposed updates are nice. The spec weapon update is fine. There's no scenario where you actually get the Antler guard BEFORE the dragon defender in this scenario. Doesn't fit as a 'before' Dragon Defender type. The dragon defender is not hard to get nor does it take a lot of time. Will absolutely have defender prior to this piece. Useless. Feel like Jagex is missing on these updates

Are we forgetting cost as a factor here? Pretty sure BP costs more than a Sunlight hunter cbow, and the guard makes another budget upgrade. They don’t always have to design around everyone having max cash for upgrades.
I see so many comments about the boots being great. I look at it this way... The boots are nothing more than a QoL update for people with max cash that can afford to drop 100-200m on a set of hybrid boots. Id say it doesnt justify the hefty price tag they will have, but then again, neither do prims or ranger boots, and yet theyre expensive...Ill stick with my aranea boots that are very nice hybrid boots and not too expensive =)

I feel the items should be like this, the boots need to add 1 extra % to range mage and melee str, boom there is a nice nice reward.... even the range strength is enough as it is really still nice. As for eldritch veil..... it ahould be tradeable and add the thrall upgrade as its effect, make it needs the demonic mark to upgrade to eldritch veil and use crystals or whatever resource to add charges to use the effect which gives a continuous demand to do the content. The demonbane weapon remains unchanged as ita nice and good where its at.
As for another reaward suggestion as this is endgame a fourth nice reward could berelated to ralos and ranul , like blessing of the sun and moon which adds more prayer bonus than radas blessing 4, but also adds a run recharge effect or adds 1 accuracy for melee and magic.... thats my suggestions that i think helps the debacle and makes it a more of a drive to do the content repeatedly so its not dead content
so valamore is just stepping stone for mid level players and doesnt benefit high level end game like this is good for mid players but us high level max players wouldnt mind upgrade too.
The point of the boots is that they're bis hybrid boots. Not to dominate 1 specific combat type. But to make it so that you do make use of all 3 boots, instead of just wearing 1 and banking the rest. (I personally use eternal boots, if not echos or aranea.)

He says no one is lugging around all three boots which is exactly why no buffs to the boots is the way to go due to the fact that it buffs 2 of the 3 cb styles that you’re not already getting with using the 1 pair. It also helps with avoiding too much power creep. Boots overall will be like 70/80m can be used everywhere but prioritized in multi cb areas like torm dem/gor all the way up to inf/raids. I think boots are a great update leaning towards more end mid/late to late game content where damage output is more priority over defense

I agree, but it's a good thing that melee ToB player probably does other content than just melee ToB. These boots are going to be convenient to have in content where you need to hybrid or tribrid, but they wont feel like an upgrade at all for content that you 1 style. So I half agree with your point, if you only consider content where you only use 1 style, sure they are not really needed as an upgrade.

dragon defender has negative mage and range bonus this has positive
- Give boots a combat passive
- Change weapon effect from demon niche to something else, we have enough demon weapons
- Make weapon upgradeable via a rare special piece that comes from wave 8+
- Add 2 more uniques to this. 1 ranged one since mage/melee already have some. And then one more untradeable upgrade that *isnt* guaranteed like cape.

So I don't really get this. Maybe it's cause I have a shadow but I camp eternal at toa, and being able to also add prim stats to them for melee rooms is just more better. Same with like cox. You just get a little bit of extra dps out of 2 of 3 raids

Personally I hate content like fight cave, inferno, colosseum. The first completion I get it. But after you have done it a few times it’s so mind numbing boring. Last 10 waves or even just the final fight after you complete would be a god send. Even if each time you completed you skipped one wave so you had to get a lot of kc first. Still that would be aids but significantly better.

I'm so pissed they decided to make the mage cape upgrade untradeable. I don't want everything to have to be locked behind some form of wave based mini games or bosses. I play a regular main to buy items when I can if it's needed for my account for the sake of convenience.

You're definitely lugging 2 pairs of boots around at a lot of content, plus if pegs had +1 strength people would bring that switch. You use blowpipe in like every raid in the game including inferno. The boots are a very big upgrade as is for max mains (who the content is designed for). The boots will be nice for all roles in tob because you use all styles at nylo boss. I think dropping the veil is fine but you need more than 1 reward from this content for it to be worthwhile.

If it’s not meant to be an eventual bis cape, link it to thralls in some way. Keep the consumable idea and give the cape an extra slot like the quiver, to synergies with thralls but not an overall bis cape. And for balance of this next other top tier cape ffs nerf the Shadow a tad, it’s fucking the entire mage tree.

They also just shit the bed and made osrs mobile unplayable making a .5sec stutter whenever any action is performed including eating, changing gear, changing prayer, changing menus, ANYTHING. Before this ive been unable to tap to walk under other players (I moved the walk here option to the top for bandos, but its broken forever now and is forever the last or first option on clicks) making gotr, wintertodt, Nex mass, Nightmare mass, and honestly anything with players involved is complete trash now on Mobile. Even just forrestry events are screwed. I end up accidentally examining things because the change made that the top option for otherwise regualar objects you wouldnt beable to click on.
Yeah it’s really messy implementation of menu swaps. Until they fix it the best you can do is toggle it on/off for certain activities. I did a full reset to get rid of the follow over walk issue. Now I just swap and then reset for anything major. It’s a pain but better than not having any swaps at all imo. Primarily a desktop player so it doesn’t completely ruin my experience but hoping a fix comes but with the new hd/api features coming they will probably just leave it and let someone else do it (for free) later lol

the boots are well worth using but thats too much inventory slot, there are some goats that do use all three boots its jsut not worth the inventory slot of a peeice of food, three 8 way switches is hell of a headache thats all. msot people cant understand anyways they camp bofa's and shit to get through a kill. dont get me wrong sitting back not noing shit with a bofa,tbow,shadow is all dandy but theres faster and more ways to do things.its jsut people use whats easier and gets them through shit. no harm in that. i hope the boots come out tired of using three pairs of boots. thats more fuckup inventory slots of food i can use, and we all fuck up so an extra peice of food is lovely.
