Cloudways is great as long as you're using their cheapest server... beyond that their 2x pricing model doesn't make sense as you're also paying double for their control panel each time you scale up.
I have been with Cloudways for nearly a year now, and this is the very reason I am now searching for a new provider. The technical, billing and affiliate support staff completely dodged all my questions regarding this pricing model. When I attempted to post this in the Cloudways Facebook group, the admin declined to post it.
Sorry, but I most likely won't be making a Linode vs Vultr HF video as I mentioned to Joey over here th-cam.com/video/CdJVFaXOSZc/w-d-xo.html&lc=UgyyOoNgUT1upn-cCHZ4AaABAg.9DU6cq2hr6Q9Da7t_7yFJB
Really interesting, I'm surprised mostly that you couldn't replicate Cloudway's optimisation - as I'm intending to get a client to skip Cloudways and go direct to save them 50% (We're planning 4-6 server setup). Did you spend any time trying to optimise or was it just install and let it stand as-is? and I second @John Wellington's comment - I'd love to hear your thoughts on Vultr HD.
You definitely CAN optimize Linode or any other VPS to serve pages as fast as Cloudways, not doubt about it. It's just that most people don't really want to bother with all the research, tweaking, and settings and rather pay a premium for optimization out of the box. Not only that, but most people don't have the technical knowledge to do so. The purpose of this video was to educate about the difference between a VPS and a managed VPS. I spent as much time optimizing Linode by installing common caching and minification plugins as I would suspect the average user to do. But now that you mention it, it would be a cool video in the future to walk through the process of optimizing a raw Linode VPS to see if I can optimize it to a point that it's faster than Cloudways. As far as a video about Vultr High Frequency, please see my video and my comment here th-cam.com/video/CdJVFaXOSZc/w-d-xo.html&lc=UgyyOoNgUT1upn-cCHZ4AaABAg.9DU6cq2hr6Q9Da7t_7yFJB
@@TonyTeachesTech Tony , Could you please try this in a VPS hosting ( Optimization part that Cloudways did ) Specially it's very helpful for technical person. Thanks in advance
great tony, just right before I'm buy another wordpress/woocommerce hosting plan, I found your videos, and you totally upgraded my visions, which is awesome. i've already have a very slow ecommerce website, i would like to upgrade to cloudways after i watched your videos, as i'm not a technical guy, i found cloudways still offer woocommerce plans as well , but looks like they offer pretty identical functions as vps plans (linode and utrl), which plan will you recommend for ecommerce ? Id there any real benefits if we choose woocommerce plan? can't wait hearing from you.
For someone who is not techie and not familiar with maintaining a server, I always suggest Cloudways since this is a managed VPS with customer support whereas if you choose Linode, you're on your own
I'm still a newbie trying to understand and learn. This helps so much. Thank you for these videos. I had a some doubts. I'm using a VPS to run my VPN service(OpenVPN). I wonder in that case, 1. Does it affect the performance of the VPN to use Cloudways? 2. Would I compromise privacy with a managed VPS?
1. No, there would be no performance difference with a managed VPS vs a VPS 2. I would think a managed VPS would have less privacy because Cloudways in this case would have your default credentials for the server, but if you change these credentials then you will be okay
Hi Omar. In addition to carefully choosing the right plugins, you must also remove unnecessary plugins. Take my cereal blog for example (nearly 100 PSI score developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/?url=cereal.guru) I only have 9 plugins installed (and I can probably live without SEMrush and Yoast): 1) Classic Editor 2) Contact Form 7 3) EWWW Image Optimizer 4) GP Premium 5) Perfmatters 6) reCAPTCHA by BestWebSoft 7) SEMrush SEO Writing Assistant 8) W3 Total Cache 9) Yoast SEO Out of these, W3 Total Cache, EWWW Image Optimizer, and Perfmatters are what give my website it's speed. W3 caches my pages, EWWW compresses my images, and Perfmatters cuts the fat. Perfmatters is the only plugin that I pay for and I buy some image credits for EWWW. I'm planning on releasing a video soon about how to achieve this so stay tuned, but for now this should point you in the right direction. Besides plugins, other things to consider are is your WordPress theme and your hosting. I'm using GeneratePress (I also paid for this, it's a very fast theme) and WPX Hosting respectively. But at the very least, compress your images th-cam.com/video/74GKJmMhHhs/w-d-xo.html and use W3 Total Cache.
@@TonyTeachesTech thank you so much bro. You helped me a lot. I have notifications enabled to all your videos. I noticed u didn't mention CDN and caching from the webhost side ? Like I keep hearing openlightspeed is this new supreme technology for wordpress. Thanks again man
I'm very new to setting up my web server. I realised that Cloudways ease things up tremendously for me, but I also think that setting things up manually on Linode, I can learn so much more. Then, when I know enough, I could always go to Cloudways. Do you think this is the correct approach to learn more in depth on handling web server? Thank you. :)
If you're not familiar with the technical aspects of hosting a website, then I would advise against using a pure VPS solution like Linode to host a production website. It's okay to do this to learn though
Cloudways beats because it’s installed nginx reverse proxy to Apache for static page and redis caching for sql query plus front end installed varnish caching that’s making number 1 stack right now I trying to experiments on my vps digitalocean so this structure let’s see :)

Hi Tony, Great video! Thanks so much. :) BTW, do you have some other videos or some courses even that demonstrate in a step-by-step manner on what Linux distro you use, how you manage them with WP, do you use Redis install, managing the Linux distro like updates, cPanel, etc? I think you'd make a good teacher. You're clear and concise.

Until then, I invite you to go to my channel homepage and use the search feature to find a specific topic. Also, you can always reach out to me directly on my website
CAN YOU PLEASE DO A REVIEW ON SCALAHOSTING. THEY HAVE MANAGED CLOUD VPS PLANS STARTING AT $9. IT INCLUDES 50 GB SSD, 1 CPU CORE, AND 2 GB OF RAM. IT ALSO HAS AN SPANEL WHM CONTROL PANEL(pretty much exactly to cPanel WHM panel). THEY ALSO HAVE GREAT SUPPORT. Not only that, they also offer DigitalOcean servers and AWS servers (only cost $25 with the same specs above) all with their SPanel.
it gives new insights for me, because I think unmanaged VPS default setting will be automatically faster than managed VPS, now you prove that it wrong. so I think cloudways is my good go to.
