    I own a pair of the Turbosound IP2000 speakers and am thinking about adding a pair of the IP1000's so I very much appreciate your video. My experience is in live sound engineering for the past 30 years and for my two cents, the Turbosound speaker reproduces a much more accurate, clean sound. While the new Bose system is an improvement over their old model it still does not match up to the Turbosound. BTW the Turbosound app does have built in reverb for each input channel. I love your guitar playing and thanks again for the video.

    • @gair1944

      My Turbosound was an older model that did not have Reverb. I think they added that in the Version 2 (for the IP1000). I think the Turbosound is a very good system and it covers the entire frequency range. But I find it harsher and more challenging when I am standing right in front or next to the Turbosound versus the Bose. The Bose works a lot better for me up close. Because of the shows I play, sometimes I have no choice regarding placement. Thank you for the compliments on my guitar playing. Much appreciated.

      @@gair1944 you're essentially comparing an older model Turbosound to a newer model Bose. Perhaps comparing the version 2 Turbosound would be a better comparison? Nonetheless you did a great job with that phenomenal playing of yours! Keep it up buddy!

    • @gair1944
      @gair1944  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@madness8556 You are correct that I did not have the Turbosound IP1000 Version 2 that includes reverb. But otherwise the tower, sub and overall voice is identical. They just added reverb if I recall. So I think this comparison was still relatively close. Ultimately, I sold my Turbosound IP1000 shortly after making this video and I bought a second Bose L1 Pro 8 so I can now use a pair. They are phenomenal. Much much easier to carry and lighter than the Turbosound in my experience. The Turbosound is (or was) significantly less expensive so that gives a nod to the IP1000. But I also found the Turbosound was harsher sounding to my ears when I was too close. But I have have the Bose right next to me or behind me and it sounds great. I like hearing the mix the audience is getting. For me, The Bose is the superior tool for what I want.

      Hi Bill, I major in music on bass in college and am more of a trained bass player than guitarist. I don't play upright anymore but I play 5 string electric in my band and duo. When my duo gigs, I play my Sadowsky and Nordstrand basses direct into the Bose L1 Pro 8. I am amazed how good it works. Please let me know if your try your upright bass through an L1 Pro 8. I won't be the least bit surprised if it doesn't sound great! and the App is so much easier to use to change settings.

    You do great demos, Gary. Much appreciated. I’m so impressed by that Baggs pickup.
    The Turbosound sounds just like I would expect my Martin to sound plugging in without any work, and it doesn’t offer the tools to properly correct it. The Bose has some serious processing going on - both EQ and multiband compression - and there’s no doubt it is very well programmed. I can hear why you like it so much, and why it is so popular. Typically, pro engineers prefer to do their own processes on a mixer and I can’t imagine using the Turbosound without using a very good one. Bose seems to step just up to the line of doing too much to the input signal. Turbosound hasn’t done nearly enough.

    • @gair1944
      @gair1944  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank You Peter. Your observations are well taken. The Bose for me is simply Plug & Play, and there is great flexibility to further shape the tone with the APP or onboard the Bose Sub model where the tone controls reside. I sold the Turbosound after doing these demo's. The Bose is more user friendly and always works well. My duo partner and band mate bought one also and now we use a pair for our Duo shows and smaller band shows.

    I am doing this comparison (virtually) before I purchase. I agree the Bose sounds amazing. But will it cover a crowd as well as the ip1000? I think the Bose has significantly less wattage, and moderately lower SPL. Would the Bose be enough for an outdoor crowd of 75-100? How does it compare to the Turbosound in that situation?

  • @gritech1
    @gritech1 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love the guitar playing 🙂....from the start, the Turbo sound sounded louder and fuller to me but acoustics is perception, what one person hears will be different from the next thanks so much for the review. I must admit I'm not hearing anything that would convince me to swap my two IP1000 v2 for two Bose if someone offered but that's just me.

    • @gair1944
      @gair1944  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Understood. What the videos don’t tell you is standing right in front or next to the turbosounds can be harsh and feedback prone. The speakers in the turbo sound tower address different frequencies where the tower speakers in the Bose are all the same. The Bose sounds more even and I am confident I am hearing the same mix the audience hears. The Bose are infinitely easier to carry. As often as I gig that’s a huge deal. And the abose tonematch settings are very well
      Voiced and useful. Simply put there is a lot more value in all the Bose offers (for ME). Your mileage may vary. That’s ok too

      @@gair1944 Thanks so much for the reply and information. I will certainly check the Bose out as I use my Turbosound's for Karaoke and when I have 4 mics on stage sometimes do struggle with feed back, especially if I'm pushing the volume. Also, I've noticed that the Turbosounds sound very bassy if standing behind them. Which is where I normally am sited. Probably because Im behind the 180 degree dispersion from the arrays, where all the treble and mid is. Might try putting them behind and see what happens ......Thanks again.

    I’m not a guitarist (vocals, frame drum, kalimba - just weird, beautiful, exotic stuff…), but I can appreciate guitar tone enough to hear what I needed to hear in this video. The Bose definitely wins in my book! I was really tempted by the Turbosound’s price point, but it just sounds a bit more harsh and jangly. I think I’ll bite the bullet…
    That said, the brash edginess of the Turbosound might be just right for some applications. In fact, I hope the Bose isn’t too smooth for my current project, which can get a little guttural, and has full drums… Hopefully its beauty is worth the risk!

    Turbosound LP1000 is significantly heavier and only goes to 50Hz on the low end vs 42Hz on the Pro 8. For me, SQ, portability, and tone control are just right on the L1 Pro 8. I'm not concerned about the moderate price difference on gear that I'll be using for many years. An all-in-one portable setup and great SQ are my primary requirements. If needing significantly higher SPL without those requirements, Turbosound would be nice.

      I tend to agree David. The L1 Pro8 may be borderline for DJ's in terms of output and power but sounds great for small ensemble, vocals. acoustic instruments etc. I used a pair of L1 Pro8's at a wedding recently with my acoustic duo. I play my 5 string bass straight into one of the channels. It handles the Low B string with authority but there is a limit. We never exceeded that personally. It works great at our reasonable volume level. When we DJ'd music on our breaks the pair sounded really good. But some DJ's will want more thump. They would be better served with the L1 Pro 16 that has a lot more power and more array speakers.

    Why compare an older version of the Turbosound with the latest version from Bose? Also, I believe there is a $500 price difference. V2 has been out for awhile and has Clark-Teknik DSP. While these new Bose models certainly sound warmer than my old L1S, not noting the price difference is tantamount to not recognizing the elephant in the room. Plus the tone match mixer makes a big difference for the Bose. I believe retail for the TM 4 channel is at least $499.

      Why compare? Because it's what I owned, so I compared. (And I sold the Turbosound shortly after this demo) The Bose is WAY more user friendly. The new Bose has many Tonematch settings built in. I don't feel the need for the mixer at all. So the tantamount difference for my needs and several singer/guitarists is the Bose L1 Pro 8 stands on its own quite well for many.

      The turbosound has a highly credible. It is a Lot heavier physically and was more prone to feedback up close. But you can’t argue with the value and quality for the money.

      @@gair1944 Thanks for this! Been gigging with the IP1000 for a couple years and just ordered the Pro 8. Do you find the overall volumes to be comparable? I was a bit on the fence about overall volume but saw the SPL is similar (118 v 122). I think you said that you played a pretty good size outdoor gig and the pro8 was plenty loud?

      @@scottheath4833 Hi Scott, I absolutely find the Bose L1 Pro8 as versatile as the Turbosound IP1000. Spec's might not portray the dispersion and quality of sound over a distance. I found the Bose to be more 'even' up close and farther away.

      Muck appreciated! Pro8 should arrive before the weekend gigs so I am psyched to try it out.

    Bose sounds thin in comparison.

    Only Cuitar…..???? And Bose price is double….. 2 Ip 1000 vs Bose L1 pro8 would be fair. Bose 👎 ………..Turbosound 👍
