Sree Sita Ramaswamy temple at Pookunnam in Thrissur district, Kerala is dedicated to Lord Sreerama and Sita Devi. The temple is situated at Pushpagiri Agraharam, the Tamil Brahmin settlement area. The temple has separate shrines for Hanuman Swamy, Lord Lakshmana, Lord Shiva, Lord Ganapathy, Lord Ayyappa, and Navagrahas.
The temple celebrated Brahmotsavam from 31 March to 10 April 2014. The festival is held every year at the temple in connection with Sree Rama Navami, the birthday of Lord Rama. The highlight of the festival was the procession of idols on the chariots accompanied by caparisoned elephants. Each day of the festival ended with the holy procession of Gods on the golden chariot and a decorated elephant, around the village. On a concluding day, the golden chariot was replaced by a huge wooden chariot with sculptures and decorations. A large number of devotees gathered here for pulling the huge chariot, which is considered holy. The eleven-day festival created an ambiance of purity and divinity all over Pushpagiri village.
Colorful and divine ceremonies were held during the festival days. Sree Rama Navami was celebrated in traditional style on the ninth day of the festival, 08 April. Arattu, the divine bath of God was held on the tenth day and Sita Kalyana Mahotsavam, the celebration of the marriage of Lord Sri Rama and Sita Devi was held during the night. The festival concluded on 10 April with Anjaneyotsavam.
