I had the amazing experience of being in HK during the sevens tournament in ‘93 or ‘94 and running into Eric while he was touristing around town. Think it was at the base of the Victoria Peak tram and he was with a young tree trunk of a mate. I went up to him saying loudly : “ I’m not worthy!! , explaining I was a rugby player/fan from Chile that admired him greatly... he introduced me to his mate Jonah.... the next day I had the chance of seeing young Jonah wreak havoc on the sevens pitch.....

Great story Mr Rush. I was lucky to have seen The Big Man himself, playing in My Country Wales. What a gentleman he was. I've watched his Funeral quite a few times, and it still Chokes Me. You your Kind Self payed your part to. R.I.P. Big Man. Many thanks and Kind regards Colyn.

Great story, Iam both happy and sad right now, sad because Jonah is not with us anymore, but happy that he had a blast and so many people have such great memories of him .... Watching him steam rolling himself through the English defense was awesome... 😉😉

i remember the mighty all blacks came to ireland for a game. i watched them train at my university. i stood pitchside at one of the training pitches with about 10 other people as all the NZ squad hit tackle bags. jonah ran to the end of the line and was about 2 metres from me, he ran and hit the tackle bag and the guy holding it was sent flying though the air like a child getting hit by a car. it was just phenomenal. he was like a man playing with boys.

Great story told by a very humble man. Judging by the comments, I can see that Eric Rush is highly respected. He really looks like a great guy. As a South African that became an All Black fan during the 95 world cup, not having much prior knowledge of the All Black squad, I was very impressed with Eric Rush too. At the time I actually felt that they should have played him in the final against the Boks, instead of Lomu, with all due respect to the phenomenal big guy. The Boks had such a focus on how to stop Jonah that they would have been completely rattled by the required change in mindset. What legends! Unforgettable.

I won Rushy's NZ Rugby 7's captain shirt at an auction in a random sports bar my bro's and I had walked into down in Wellington. .ran into him in Northland the very next weekend, he owned the Kaikohe New World at the time. .I wish I was wearing that shirt so he could have signed it. .he's a legend himself

I thought about slamming you for your comments, but realised that you are probably unaware of who this legend is. Take the time to look up not just on "You Tube" but else where as to whom Eric Rush is and what he has done for Rugby. Failing that call Jonah himself, I'm sure he will set you straight about any misconception you may have about Eric Rush.

    • @MrWillt100

When Eric was playing those were the, anything goes days. Those finals were epic games where you either gave as good as you got or you got wasted and lost.
The best memories were so often of New Zealand playing Fiji wow! they were always games of of hard hitting, high attrition rates and lots of taunting each other into doing things that would result in a penalty.
Those types of games are now a thing of the past but Eric Rush was and always will be one of my favourite players from that bygone era, where as soon as you got smashed your dragged yourself back up off the ground only to get smashed back on the ground again.
Now that was what you called entertainment in triple doses which I always hark back to with fond memories.

The whole seminar consisted of numerous speakers but Eric Rush had everyone in fits of laughter because he can really tell a few good yarns! Eric is a lovely chap by the sounds of his attitude & love of the NZ game of rugby!😀👌
