Küat NV 2.0 Bike Ramp Accessory Review - Unbox, Install, Test

  • electricbikereview.com/forum/... Küat sent me their NV 2.0 hitch rack a couple of years back to test and use during my ebike review adventures and it has worked very well. The rack is strong, comes in 2" or 1.24" hitch configurations, supports two or four bikes, folds up, is aerodynamic, and safer to use than a roof rack. I love that it fits a wide range of tire types from road bikes to plus sized mountain bikes and even fat tire bikes. Hitch racks are great for heavier electric bicycles because they provide more support than hang style racks... though they are expensive. The thing about the 2.0 NV hitch rack from Küat (and most other hitch racks) is that you still need to lift the bike up in order to load it onto the rack. Thule has introduced a folding rack called the Easy Fold that includes a ramp and now Küat has an optional $89 rack that's super easy to install and use. In this video, Marc and I unbox the NV 2.0 Access Bike Ramp and then install and test it.
    Pros:
    - Easy to install
    - Doesn't take much space, slides to be compact
    Cons:
    - Stores separately from the bike rack
    - Made from steel that could rust if the powder coating paint is scratched off
    - More expensive than I expected
    Other:
    - Weight: 5.8lbs (2.63kg)
    - Material: Steel (powder coated)
    - Dimensions: 34.5" x 4.25" x 4.25" (87.6cm x 10.8cm x 10.8cm)
    - Expanded Length: 55.5" (141cm)
I also reviewed the Küat NV 2.0 hitch rack all on its own and posted about it here: electricbikereview.com/access... EBR was paid to perform this review #Sponsored We try to be honest, thorough, and fun! Comparison tools, shop directory, and forums at: ElectricBikeReview.com

The guys at Küat emailed me and said "Dipping those ends is a great idea! Also, we do have brackets for the original NV, so the ramp is backward compatible. Glad the rack is treating you well."

Great video. My biggest e-bike/rack problem is properly securing a bike that has a fender. This is true with Kuat (and others). The hook holder will destroy the fender under actual use. I was hoping your video was going to raise that issue! (since your example bike had a fender!) oh well...

Just remove a couple screws and sandwich the ramp bracket and reinstall screws. Biggest issue I had was breaking the screws loose. I got two loose with the proprietary tool provided bet ended up taking to my bike shop to loosen the other two with an impact driver. Since I bought the bike and rack there they didn’t charge anything to complete the install while I waited.

I have a Rock Shox front suspension fork. When using the hook on your rack to hold the bike down, do you generally place the hook on top of the Arch of the fork to keep it as close as possible as the company recommends? Placing it on the tire seems a bit unstable IMO. What do you think? Thanks!

I bought the Thule Easy fold and returned it. You can't fold it up against the car so it constantly sticks out all the time which makes backing up in a parking lot challenging. Plus the tires overhang the rack a bit and I found the whole thing kind of flimsy. So I purchased another Thule XT 2, but I can't lift my ebike on the new Thue Rack XT Pro without help. My husband is making a wooden ramp for me with a hinge on it so it secures to the rack. Cost about $10 in limber and hing, some nails and some elbow work and a nice dinner for the hubby.

We’ve had a Thule rack for a few years and it’s been just fine. I do wish they’d make a ramp like this to be used on several of their models. I don’t want to have to buy another rack since we did all the research for a good rack when we bought the Thule. My wife has an Ebike and it is harder to load, Otherwise we like the Thule.m

Is there a single speed bike rack that you could recommend that secures over the"frame" because a lot of e-bikes have fenders on them & most of these bike racks are secured over the front tire, any suggestions would be grateful.

Ebikes should have 2 U loops (both ends) for good grip on tires. mounting bike without battery helps lifting. a 2 inch rack and carrier is preferable. check width of U loops to accommodate your tires.

Darrellkh H. I’m going on 70 and carry a heavy e-bike and a BikeE recumbent. I have a ramp but don’t use it because I back the car to a curb so that the rack is over the sidewalk then simply roll the bike onto the rack from the sidewalk. Unlike the Kuat I can remove the rack in under 30 seconds and put it in my trunk when going through an automatic car wash.

Did you guys notice when installing the clips that the cable tip no longer touches the magnet which enables it to keep from vibrating out on the road? At least neither side of my NV 2.0 works like it did before installing the kit...
I've got an open ticket with Kuat and will post the results. They say nobody has ever complained about it which leads me to believe I might have done something wrong, but the clips are flush with the plastic end-caps and metal frame and all screws are tightened. Dunno...

I love this channel, but I was disappointed. The bike he tested is similar to mine, with heavy duty fenders, and we didn't get a chance to see if the Kuat arm holds the bike on. Very few rack demos show bikes with fenders. Cort, I'd appreciate if you could tell me in the comments if the arm works with fenders without rubbing the frame. It's great to see a ramp. Thanks for the demo.

I spoke to Kuat regarding this issue as we just bought ebikes with fenders. The rep said you can use some Pool Foam or cloth and place it between the tire and the fender to take up the space. Still not ideal but it will work. Or take the fenders off each time or for good.
