One of the great tropes in stories is the "fortunate opportunist" - where someone makes the most of a chance. "Luck served you there, but you seized your chance with both hands!" exclaimed Gimli. - THE TWO TOWERS, J.R.R. Tolkien
_"Are there zombies in 40k?"_ Well we've got daemons, Orks, Space Elves, Space Dwarves, werewolves, vampires, ghosts, angels, Egyptian Terminator robots, teleporting crocodiles, witches, wizards, socerers and just about every other flavor of magic user you can think of. So does Nurgle, the God of Plagues, having at least 1 kind of zombie plague tucked under his belly folds sound so outlandish?
Ciaphas Cain (HERO OF THE IMPERIUM!!!) on his first introduction in his first book was trying to duck out of a brawl between two units thrown together & only stops when he's spotted. Now a normal Commissar would've just shot people but Cain goes "You get a broom! This mess hall is a disgrace and no one is leaving to leave until it's cleaned up!"
15:30 Psykers in 40k basically range from Jedi to Magicians, Mediums, Oracles, Warlocks and everything in between. Basically if it’s a special power, talent, or just being unnaturally good at something it’s generally some degree of psychic power. To get a really good sense of what average Psykers are like look into Inquisitor Eisenhorn and Ravenor.
Cain's stories are an excellent introduction to 40k. They're self-contained, generally explain anything that needs explanation, and are more grounded and character-focused than...some other material.
Battlemace is actually a gag from the community popularized by If The Emperor Had A Text-To-Speech Device. In short, it's supposed to be 40k's equivalent of the 40k tabletop game, and it has gained popularity as a middle finger to Games Workshop due to their crackdown on fan content in recent years.
Zombies in 40K, yes. Infected by chaos, yes. Did Cain survive zombies? Yes. . . Honestly, that should surprise no one. This is the man that found a way to beat a Tyranid Kaiju (probably a bio-titan) without any weapons that could harm it.
And how can you dont know about Zombies. Whole Darktide game is about Zombie Plague and cleaning Hive City from it (watch trailer for it you wil se how it looks and works)
Cain's aide is a blank, if Cain was a psycher, he wouldn't be able to tolerate Jurgens presence at all. There is absolutely nothing in the books(at least the first 9, not including short stories) to suggest that he is a psycher other than the fact that hes gotten very lucky multiple times.
Chad energy!

Cain is an absolute beast and his books are a fantastic starting point.
Fairly serious but also a good amount of humour.
Cain is proof that you don't have to be a Space Marine to make a difference in Warhammer 40K Universe.

Seen the trailer but haven't had a chance to play the game yet. Didn't realize that Nurgle infected were zombies.
