PS2 dethroned itself before PS3 came out due to Xbox original and PS3 crapped all over Xbox 360 when it came to online but the Wii did amazingly well due to lack of security (CFW).
@@B727X PS3 would of had more I am sure of it no one buys Xbox live just because everyone else does. Funny coz all games would be optimized to look the exact same as both ports so all that extra hardware for no reason. PS3 had a huge playerbase for online and it still does have a very big playbase for a console that does not even sell on shelves anymore. BUT Xbox does let you play with Xbox ONE and Series S/X by buying GTA4 and playing with all consoles of Xbox that had GTA4.
@@VGArchives_ Yeah. I remember around February or March of '07, Electronic Gaming Monthly had a big article about how PS3 was under fire due to a lack of killer titles, Lair and the Sixx Axis problem, the hefty price tag for two different models, and so on. They were really critical towards Sony in that issue, which was a massive surprise, because most issues I had up to that point they mostly praised everything Sony did. I think to this day, that's something that they still haven't fully recovered from. Much like what Nintendo did to them in the 90s.
It’s 2023 and I got my first ps3 just a few weeks ago. It was my boyfriend’s favorite console growing up so I got it for him, I’ve always been a hardcore Nintendo fan since I was little… the ps3 change me into a Playstation fan
Another great summary. I also had both consoles. And for me I much preferred playing on the xbox 360. The 360 controller was really comfortable and easier for fine controls. The xbox controller has also proved to be very reliable. Over the years I have found the PS3 controllers to be unreliable with 3 getting stick drift or trigger issues. Achievements were great and the xbox UI was better. Even to this day the PS3 UI is painfully slow, the UI starts on the store option instead of the game disk option and to check the game's trophies it insists on a torturously slow sync. You can't even quit the sync as it slowly lists all the games you have trophies for. And it does the sync every time you look at the trophy list, even though nothing has changed since the last sync. Drives me crazy! But I have to confess by the end of the generation the PS3 had a more interesting, more diverse range of games and the PS3 was region free for PS3 games. But I was really gutted when I bought a Japanese PS1 game and discovered the PS3 was only region free for PS3 games.
The 360 controller is still my go to controller on PC. I've got a couple of wired ones that I've had since arund 2010 that are still going strong. But yeah the PS3 was probably the better console towards the end of the generation, but I've got so much love for the 360.
I never ended up getting a PS3 for myself. I did own a PS2 and still have it to this day. I loved my PS2 and library of games I bought (with the exception of two titles that I regret buying: "Marvel Nemesis" and "Turok Evolution". The PS3 was confusing to me because of variations they had for offer and the price point was way too high for me. I played video games but not that much to warrant dropping 500 bones for it. However, later I did buy one for my mom's hubby for Christmas (We were great buddies him and I and we loved playing games together). Unfortunately about 2 years later, his console died and he stored it under his bed. Still not sure what happened to it. Anyhow, I've never played with a PS3. I was going to pick one up off ebay, but lost interest right after.
Turok Evolution is definitely a regrettable purchase. Though I remember trying to enjoy it at the time. The launch price was rediculous and all the models on offer, especially after they introduced the non-backwards compatible models was perhaps a little overkill. Worth picking one up now on the cheap though! There's some great games to be played that aren't available anywhere else unfortunately.
Got a 360 in december 2005 and a PS3 on launch. PS3 still works xbox red ringed a year and a half later. Absolutely loved both consoles but PS3 was my favourite of the 2.
I have a similar stance. Gamepass (to me at least) is a better value proposition than PS Now, but Sony regularly knocks it out the park with exclusives. So my PS5 isn't getting used a whole lot right now, but when it does get used I know it's generally something great.
For just hopping on and starting a party and just simply online gaming. The 360 was the best console to ever exist..currently have a ps4 and my God that thing is a pain to try and party up 😆
Yeah it is now, it didn't used to be though. Up until fairly recently it behaved more or less the same as the 360 for starting a party, then they decided to change everything and made it awful >_>
I never left the 7th gen But im ready to jump back in with the ps5 pro ..!!! I just dont know if i can wait 8 months lol hopefully ps5pro comes out in march 2024 lol
in your ps2 vid said the xbox got my sale - naturally went to 360, my little time with P3 - mostly the neighbor's, I can say the multi media features I ranked well.
I initially went with the 360 too, it took me a few years to grab a PS3, but I ended up being so glad I did in the end. The two consoles complemented each other really well.
PS3 was my console of choice during that generation with the sole reason of MGS4 being a PS3 exclusive and it remained as such to this day while I purchased the 360 years later. I had some fond memories with my PS3. It was my first HD console. I got into it two years after the launch due to its steep price point at the time. But I also got some mixed reactions with it as well. I had a blast with games like MGS4, Uncharted series, Arkham games, DMC4, Bioshock, GOW3, Ratchet and Clank and such but a lot of games that got ported over from 360 or even multiplat games to that ran evidently worse than on 360 itself. Bayonetta is an unplayable mess on PS3 and Red Dead Redemption looks far better on 360 when it comes to textures and performance. Even Mafia 2 runs like trash on it. There are a lot of PS3 games that looked too dark for some reason and there are number of games that ran at 640p. I also had issues with the mandatory installation process. They can take for far too long and they take a chunk of already thin hardware space while 360 easily runs off the disc if you so desire. Dualshock 3 also feels weightless and cheaply designed and Sixaxis wasn't something I was fond of and I'm glad that later games dropped that feature. I'll give PS3 credit at least. There are tons of unique and obscure games on it like Folklore, definitely tons of rare finds, online service was free and I love that it's completely region free and backwards compatible with PS1 and PS2 games depending on the models. And PS3 is definitely sturdier than what PS2 or 360 were. I remember I had to replace three PS2's in the past while I'm still keeping the PS3 I originally purchased and works like a charm to this day. And it's also an amazing bluray player.
Yeah MGS4 was a pretty big reason behing me buying a PS3 as well. Performance was pretty sketchy across both consoles I think, with it being a crapshoot as to which had the best for whatever game. Definitely a great console with some great games though, mine is still hooked up under my TV and played regularly.
Damn! I just bought the japanese version of Bayonetta for the PS3. I am waiting for it to arrive from Japan. I had no idea it was an unplayable mess, that's pretty disappointing!
@@cargorunnerUK well, it's available on all platforms right now so if the PS3 version doesn't hit you on a right spot, you can always try out other versions and give them a whirl.
the grand mistake sony did with ps3 was not necessarily it being hard to develop for but just a slow device. slow hdd, slow wifi, slow drive - it really added up to a rather miserable experience, it was really noticeable when installing game data or updates, either from network or from the disc to hdd.
Do you have fond memories of the PS3? Or did you sit firmly on team red with the Wii or team green with the Xbox 360?

Wii haha
Having owned both consoles at the time, nothing quite blew me away as much as the PS3 exclusives
I remember being blown away the first time I played Killzone 2 and Uncharted.
I got a PS3 for the first time ever in 2019.
Really late to the party, but I love exploring that generation of games that I missed out on.
Definitely! Especially when it had such a large library. I had mine most of the generation and come across new things every now and then, even now.
Sony 1995: $299
Everyone: Yeah!
Sony 2006: $499 and $599
Everyone: Wait what?
Yeah they went full role reversal on that one. Made the PS3 a tough sell for the first few years compared to the 360.

I got super lucky and have still never had a RROD. Few other errors over the years but none that have been console killers.
Sony has been riding high since 2011...still continues now...that dominance started at the end of the PS3 era
I look at it like this. Buy both consoles, PS5 now for the PS library and exclusives and Xbox for everything else.
