I agree with alot of what you are saying and I'm really getting tired of this political correctness cancel culture movement. Metal was always controversial and most of these bands who make these controversial records when you see them in interviews seem really cool and laid back. I look at most metal as therapy and has gotten me and others out of hardtimes. Controversy has been around since before metal. Great topic Trevor.
Good to see you, Ranty Trevor. I could not care less what bands sing about, some is impossible to understand anyways, haha. 😂😂 But yeah, if you harm children you're fucked. 👊🏻 Have a nice day my friend. Cheers. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
I kinda agree here Trev. Metal is all about not conforming to the system, it's always been controversial mainly because they thought it was satanic. It's about people who don't fit in to normal life having an outlet to get all their frustration out, and that resonates with other people who are the same. It's not meant for these "normal" people that dont seem to quite understand what Metal music is, so anyone like that should be nowhere near our music! To quote Metallica; life's for my own to live my own way 🤘🏻🤘🏻

At what point do we separate the person from the art? Also, at what point aren't we allowed to make mistakes. I had a different view of women's issues, until I had daughters, and it changed my views. This is funny. has our public school system done a horrible job teaching history for the last 60 years? yes. Do I believe the confederate flag stands for something that is not Southern pride? yes. I live in South Carolina. 98% of the people here believe it means southern pride. after they lost the Civil War (which the vast majority of them say was fought for the wrong reasons... I could go on about this forever) the South was punished through reconstruction. You can honestly understand the election of Wilson as this sentiment. That being said... Does anyone in a metal band have a nuanced view of political philosophy? no. THAT'S WHY I LISTEN TO IT. Metal WAS against the mainstream for a long time. Do edgy things. Slayer with their silly pseudo satanism or Pantera with their rebel flags. No one cares about 70's and 80's punk rockers with swastikas or simping for Stalin, Lenin, Mao, or Pol Pot. No one cares about punk rockers singing about assassinating Reagan or any other political figure. Simply, in the world of 'art', if your statement can be verified as 'left' of the political mainstream it WILL ALWAYS BE EXCUSED. Oh, you're in a 90's hardcore band that helped eco-terrorists kill loggers? you're a good person. It's silly. The entire argument is silly. Dimebag or Axl rose in a picture in a club in 1987 with a rebel flag shirt is not the same thing as Kanye West or black metal. we need to stop over intellectualizing working class dudes who never read a book but play in our favorite bands.
