I've been modeling for exactly 40 years and have only ever used this method to repair the molded detail I sand off when preparing for paint. I just finished fully riveting a 1/72 E2-c and the difference is surprisingly worth the effort. I jacked up several lines due to the trumpeter tool being a piece, but it's still 100x more interesting than without.
Planning out the approach is key. For example, having to manipulate a built tail with a bunch of 90 degree angles is much harder than running the tool over the part flat on the bench. Also, nothing wrong with waiting to do this process until right before paint. If you shoot a layer of surfacer, a coat of paint and 2 coats of clear before any weathering, the tiny dits are likely tot be filled. If you do it after the surfacer, right before painting, you won't have to go over everything again like I did..

Adding Rivets is such a nice Detail on a finished model. Luckily there are some models, which already have them molded in, because I don't like to do it ;) I just found your Channel, very nice work and great Videos, Subscribed!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

What’s best putty for riveting? Regular putty just crack if I ran the wheel over.

Hi there. I saw your page omn FB and decided to follow you here as well. I'd like to know if you apply primer on your model first before doing the rivet process. Thanks for any answer, have a great day ahead 👍

Hi and welcome aboard! No, I only apply the primer after making the rivets :)

could I use the same technique on a ship model?

The mishaps you had is because of the trumpeter tool which is horrible. I had to buy the RB riveter and it is much much better. The difference is huge.

True. I'm waiting for RB tools to be back on shipping orders

hey, good video, instructive and nicely done :) one question: what kind of tape do you use as a guide? does not look like dymo tape to me... Thanks
