HI ALL OF YOU! As you may know we have a new album coming out (I am not on social media at all anymore so I don't know what you've seen or heard so far) and Ted said that this time our fans will hear a new song first. So guys here it is - our new track, “The Hardship Of The Scots” and since Ted and me always write our own songs, one song could not fully represent Old Star, but let’s start with this one. Normally the journalists and other scenesters get to check out new albums 2-3-4 months before fans get to hear it, but not this time .. you are first!

52 years old and just getting into this band wish it didn't take so long. Great stuff
Better late than never.
I'm 60 and feel the same
47. Started listening to them a couple months ago. Amazing band.
That is aweasome there really great band and many more out there but never too late hear some metal.
Heard Phillip Anselmo mention them back in the day and haven't stopped listening since. Darkthrone isn't any genre it's Darkthrone! They really are the best. Cheers
Best Album since A Blaze in the Northern Sky !!! .
Brilliant song. I live in Scotland and it's the most beautiful country with the nicest people. Yes for independence!
This is one of my favorites to play along with on my guitar. Darkthrone have some badass riffs. Good times. Infernal hails Darkthrone
Beautiful song... from start to finish, a fantastic sonic journey
I speak for all Darkthrone fans when i say: Thank You Darkthrone!!! You keep making them, we'll keep listening to them!!!
That middel part was total Celtic Frost worship.
Even the vocal is spot on.
I love it!
When i got tired with love songs and K-pop..this will be among the top favorite!!!!!!
Fenriz’ vocal style sounds inspired by Wildhoney-Era Tiamat here. The tracks, “Visionare” and, “Whatever, it Hurts” come to mind.
I enjoy it.
Proud member of the Gray Clan
Darkthrone makes the best black metal
DARK IS THY THRONE ~~ DARKTHRONE!!! 🖤🎯👍👌🤘🖤!!! grtz J. 🐈⬛....🇧🇪

If a band can last this long, than they are truly timeless 🤟.
Spirits of compositions and simplicity of nothern life. Living with nothern's roots and music.
Questo album ha dei passaggi sottili evocativi straordinari complimenti ❤
Been a Fan for 20 years. One of my favorite works is artic thunder... This song is an amalgam of old and new Darkthrone. Hails from Honduras.
Awesome song. Making a song like this so late in their career ... pure respect
RIP Benny Harvey, GBNF, miss you big man.
Had to follow this up... Pretty good for A-Ha
@@ryklatortuga4146 it's good...REALLY good.
HAIL FROM BRAZIL !!!!
All Hails to Fenriz and Nocturno Culto!
They never failed to inspire us since 1991!
The unpredictability of Darkthrone 🤘
Hails and horns. Doom throne. Trippin on the artwork. Gonna preorder today.
I love the vibe they have!!!! raw, hard-hitting and honest!!!!!
Lyrics:
You buy your home
And follow a dream
No politics here
Just self esteem
A heart warms up
To where you feel home
No bastard rule of religion
Soil surrounds the stone
You get nothing for nothing
And souls do not exist
There is a concept of doom
Nature abhors a vacuum
The hardship of the Scots
Uh!
You buy your home
And follow a dream
No politics here
Just self esteem
Just self esteem
A heart warms up
To where you feel home
No bastard rule of religion
Soil surrounds the stone
I'm Scottish so am intrigued to know what's going on here. Fucked if I know.
@@MrAJPW Lol damn was hoping for an explanation.
@@MrAJPW wit ye no gettin?
Scotland is heavily politically charged, religion has had a huge role i our history and self esteem is low. Are the lyrics ironjc maybe? Fenriz tell us yer point big chap?
@@MrAJPW Almost sounds like a reference to the Highland Clearances. Which was absolutely fucked
2019 BEST ALBUM, regardless of genre.
This is pretty damn cool, some Doom Metal with a healthy dose of old school Darkthrone riffage and tone. I do wish the absolutely killer Celtic Frost style vocals were turned up a little but overall. Badass!
Nice fcking icon
Hail, didn't hear so long something that good as this 1, Darkthrone rules all the time !!!
This is so fucking awesome. Darkthrone has had such an interesting evolution over the years.
Yeah that got crappy after The Cult is Alive and are just now starting to get better again. I like this song a lot, and the vocals are great.
couldn't agree with you more!
Agreed.
The band shifted towards old school metal and hardcore punk since The Cult Is Alive (2006). Darkthrone can't be narrowed in to one sub-genre as it draws from so many influences.
Yes, from superb to good to boooring
Respect from Scotland, Darkthrone always find a way to reinvent themselves and NEVER fail.
Greetings from Paisley, this is the stuff!
love the vocals !!! Reminded me of Soulside Journey and old Tiamat. The 00:14 melody reminds me of AC/DC ''let me put my love into you'' a litte bit : ) Both are a good thing ! The middle of the song is pure music to my ears.
THIS! Thanks, I wondered what song they took this melody from, as I knew it from somewhere! Also, the song's title matches, as the Young brothers from AC/DC are Scotts by origin. :D
Also Warlord - Soliloquy. Though Warlord probably took that from AC/DC as well haha.
the start also reminds me of ''breaking the chain'' by dokken
I love this band so much.
Darkthrone never lets me down.. this is beautiful
DARKTHRONE ❤❤❤
The True Norwegian BM Band in the World!!!
Hail From Athens - Hellas!!!
Celtic Frost meets Manilla Road.
True metal from the truest dudes.
Even the vocals remind me almost of a nastier Mark Shelton for some reason.
Darkthrone meets AC/DC :) great song!

My favorite black metal band attack again. Long live Darkthrone
Hail Darkthrone from Greece!
Darkthrone are back... as mighty and uncompromising as ever!!!
Where have you been for the past 33 years?
@@Metal-Possum Here... listening to Darkthrone. You misread what I was saying...
Very good ,looooooud heavy guitars and drums!!!
Always good to hear DARKTHRONE ROOOOOOCKS!!!!
Thank you for the preview. Old and new DarkThrone forever rock!!!...
The beginning is slow-paced tempo with old heavy metal feel. Thick c-cassette sound and lemmyish raspy vox. Latter half has nipple hardening quitar and a must-learn-riff.The more I listen the song, the more I love it.
Cool mature song on yet another seemingly cool album, and a cool message for the fans!
Darkthrone is an important and slightly underrated band, now involved with about 6 genres of metal.
Rudolph Antler cool nom
Underrated? What world or dimension do you live in? They're part of the legend since the beginning
They do not get the respect nor the attention that most other bands get, even of the same generation.
Out of Darkthrone, Mayhem, Burzum, and Emperor (and maybe Gorgoroth), Darkthrone gets the least attention and it often slips under the radar even for black metal fans.
Their music is maybe the least steered towards near-instant luring in of listeners in an otherwise hard to digest genre, and it takes a calm mind to learn to appreciate their music.
So the question is, what world or dimension do YOU live in?
They wrote a really good song with this one. Good on you 2.
Amazing old school-ish vibe!
From a Scot living in Norway (Trondheim)... thank you.
The old Norwegian fire still burns fiercely within you guys
Norwegian nevere burn Fellipe idiot by Fenriz or Nocturno hands !
The only band that can play any style of metal.
Sounds good, I miss the old days of 1990-1995 but the new stuff is still beyond enjoyable for me
They were a death metal band in 1990.
Paul Womack soulside journey is still great but I meant 1991-1995ish. From Blaze through Total death. Everything since 2003-4 has been great because it’s Darkthrone, but it’s been too punky and not enough raw chainsaw riffs and nazgûl screams for me and few others. But like I said, I will buy this shit because it IS DARKTHRONE
I kinda prefer the newer stuff over the more traditional 2nd-wave-era records, personally.
The Epic roots of black metal Darkthrone
Thanks for all DARKTHRONE, greetings from Colombia
Love this band
Impossible to be more metal than Darkthrone!
Krypt - I am god (album) try that
I love the music by Darkthrone!
>not on social media at all anymore
Fenriz five steps ahead of the normies once again.
Nothing, NOTHING says "5 steps ahead" like "not anymore".
Favorite song from old star. Actually one of their best records imo! Love their old school heavy metal worship stuff. Alot more than their black metal and death metal records really.
Dark and full of doom! Hail DARKTHRONE from Texas!!!
It's painful how good it is. I lose sense of time when listening to it so I think it's one minute, than replay and again.
Darkthrone now has my heritage fully covered. First with the classic *Canadian Metal* & now with this *The Hardship of the Scots* representing both my parents. An Aberdonian & a Glasweigan respectively. Cool !!! 🤘🏼
BEST RECORDING IV HEARD IN YEARS
that part starting at 4:13 is seriously one of the best things I've heard in a long time!
Indeed. It's epic.
This names metal, son
Epic
Yes because that's black metal which darkthrone has stopped being for a long time.
I' am simple person , i see new Darkthrone i hit like button.
Old School 100%. Longing for the album, love this Celtic Frost/Varathron sound atmosphere! 🖤
That ending riff.... Such classic
Pure Darkthrone impending doom black metal riffage from the very depths of Norway.
Nice Death Strike PFP.
Impending doom? No
@@emperorbraphomet Relax bro I'm talking about the vibe of impending doom that I get when I listen to the song. That's all.
@@emperorbraphomet Obnoxious kid...
If that’s obnoxious to you, I don’t know how you survive on the internet and in real life. Simple joke. I’m sorry to upset you.
After so many years as a black metal fan I have never disappointed from Darkthrone! It's sounds perfect to me in every album
...in the shadows of the 80's
Ok so after letting this song digest a bit in my brain gullet and having stumbled on Abbath's new releases, I'm getting way more into this "Black N' Roll" style. I know it's been around awhile, but it's just so damn good.
I agree totally it's a little more my style.
I LOVE Darkthrone!!!!!!!!!
I keep humming this riffs throughout the day! I can't stop!
Great old school sound.
YESS...this is it! grizzled, doomy heaviness with an epic melancholic outro. Perfect production/drum/guitar sound too! Now I'm really intrigued to how the rest of the album will sound.
Darkthrone just never disappoint.
Darkthrone never disappoints.
That artwork is awesome
Album of the year!
like a sunken ship reapareing from darkest depths during a thunderstrom, covered in seaweed and shells. i like it!
Love ain't no stranger - Whitesnake.
You guys have never let us down
That riff at 3:16 though...
Well... I must say.... You guys kept the same spirit untamed for more than 20 years now 👍🏻
Stunning track!! Amazing album!! Awesome band!! playing this on the show this week \m/
I’m Scottish and this metal is worthy!
I remembered "At the heart of winter" of Immortal in the riff and the voice to Tiamat, but in its total it is an incredible first sample of the sound of the new Album hail Darkthrone, incredible sound and music
waiting for the disk to run to buy it
... and I know it's something unthinkable, but it would be something extraordinary to see them once live, hopefully they will think so
greetings from Chile
This song's getting better and better, oh my DOG! I like this song!
I accidently learned the tabs by ear. Pretty easy power chords, this one & quintessence are favourites by darkthrone.
Beautiful..Art!

Rocking head banging black metal!
Sent this to my cousin in Scotland. He says it's good but not quite miserable enough.
Lovely.
Not to make a big deal out of it, but my comment is more miserable than yours.
Fenriz said it was aclose call.
@@gylfi6369 😆🤘
Scotland is miserable enough.
Surely because the name of the song has Scotts in it anyone from Scotland MUST be able to judge Darkthrone's quality of songwriting?
at least they have "wa'er, pu`er wa`er" which is allegedly free.
The true pioneers of Norwegian music regardless of what you're preferred style is
Wow Ted's vocals are really nice and fresh
they sit too low in the mix need to be higher
