    I had no idea enameled copper wire could be soldered just like that. I used to scrape the laquer off with a knife or something. There's always something new to learn with NorthridgeFix - thanks!

      If the soldering tip is hot enough, it can burn off the coating.

      @@Daeth111 Yes he burns the laquer with the sodlering iron and then scrapes it off. I will try next time also with some thicker wire.

      it is solderable enamel wire, you can see one of the makers called Elektrisola, there is an enamel wire that can be opened with solder.

    Try a bright light (small flashlight) shining through the back of the board and you can often see the traces.

    - why not connect to the tracks rather than to the chip itself

    Always love these vids ... and I find it interesting that people will pay $$ for repairing a USB flash drive. Only explanation is must contain a BitCoin wallet (or other crypto).

    Why didn't you put track pads and installed new USB pin, like you do for other things with missing pads? Just curious to know.

      Why would you do that. Waste of time. Flash drives are cheap. We transferred the files to a new one.

      ​@BhaveshMalviya96 Data recovery labor time shouldn't include trying to repair a worthless flash drive. He got it working fast, transferred the files and folders over to a new USB Flash Drive and sold it to the customer + data recovery fee. Now he has a used drive to put in his spare parts bin...on to the next repair w/spare parts in the bin. Fast, efficient and profitable and the customer is happy. win win

    Can we just measure with a multi meter from D+/D- to the chip legs, so we don't have to grind all the pads.

      To the original comment, He doesnt know the pinout for the chip and since he could see a trace from one of the data pads to the IC he knew the other would be right beside since USB data lines have to run parallel to each other (differential pair)
