    From a guy who mildly stresses when cooking oatmeal, you made it look so easy even though it was your first time. Thanks! Perfect video framing and audio too.

    Nice job! You’re a great teacher in that you explain what you’re seeing and thinking. Most folks don’t take the time to explain their thought process. Kiddos for posting an experiment that looks wonderful.

    I know this was done some time ago, but... You could've pulled all the chicken to around the outter edges of the skottle and cooked the asparagus, then mixed the chicken back in when you figured the asparagus was to your liking. That is what I love about my Discada/skottle, you move stuff to the edge to "warm" while cooking the rest

      Yep, you're right on with this. This was one of the first times that we had prepared this dish. Since then we have perfected the noodles on the Skottle and it really comes down to water control and a little cooking oil. Thanks for watching!

    NOW THAT ONE OF MY QUESTIONS WAS ANSWERED DOES THE TEMBO TUSK SKOTTLE LID FIT IN THE CARRYING BAG WITH EVERYTHING ?

    • @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding
      @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Stillman yep, everything fits in the skottle bag. Blue Ridge Overland Gear makes the bag and they have had version 2 out for quite some time now. If you order a skottle kit, that’s the one you’ll get. It’s twice as deep as the original bag and fits everything. 👍

    Nice idea with the ready noodles. Have you made instant rice in the skottle, or would it be better to boil a pot of water separately for rice? I like the idea of cooking a meal in one dish though.

    • @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding
      @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We have cooked the 5 minute rice on the Skottle....Bring the water to a boil on the Skottle then add the rice and stir. Turn the heat off and cover up for 5 minutes. We've tried Jasmine rice as well but that you have to watch and keep adding water as the rice absorbs it and it takes about 20-25 minutes to cook on the Skottle so we stick with the 5 minute rice.

      David Stillman the cover is from Tembo Tusk as well. I’m sure you could probably find the same thing at Walmart or Target as well. Normally we just add the vegetables as we’re cooking, but if you have the lid and a small 12” diameter pizza rack, as seen in our cinnamon buns video, you could steam them. You would have to put the veggies on the rack or in a tin on the rack under the lid. Then just add some water under the rack and you basically create a steamer. Not sure how long it would take doing it that way though. Thanks for watching!

    I grew up on a poultry farm and have Heard of a tenderloin from chicken? You also make me cringe when you keep the dish that the raw chicken was in for your spatula. FOOD SAFETY!!!! Salmonella central!

    • @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding
      @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      T. N. Schumacher first, thanks for watching. Second, I’ve gone on record multiple times already, about the spatula, but I guess I’ll do it again. The video was shot and then edited down so it was not 45min long. My wife is a professional chef and is fully aware of the hazards of contamination. The spatula was cleaned in a portion of the video that was edited out. As far as the tenderloin comment. That’s what they were. Here’s a link you should look at. www.google.com/amp/s/www.4thegrill.com/what-is-a-chicken-tenderloin/. We are just everyday people like everyone else trying to share something that we all enjoy. Keep in mind that when you’re watch any video or movie, they were not all done in one shot. It takes time to put these things together to share. Not making excuses, but the use of “cringe” and the personal attack was a bit much. We encourage our viewers to comment and share their experiences and knowledge anytime they can. We just ask that it be done civilly. Thanks again for watching.

    That spatula you keep putting back in the bowl with the RAW chicken and then back in the cooked food. That is extremely dangerous. Good video other than that.

    • @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding
      @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The spatula is only back in that bowl while the chicken is still raw and cooking. When the asparagus was added, the bowls were switched, then using the asparagus bowl. The chicken was still not fully cooked at that time. Thanks for the comment!

  • @miketabacco5436
    @miketabacco5436 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should sear the chicken a bit. It has no color and no caramelization so you're missing out on a - shit - ton of flavor and visuals.

      Thanks for your input and it sounds delicious. This meal was meant to be a quick demonstration of a camp recipe that can be made to serve anywhere on the road. Doing it at home is completely different.

  • @kp-ue3xn
    @kp-ue3xn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You need to get rid of that bowl that held the raw chicken. You are cross contaminating raw and cooked when you put your spatula in the bowl. Yikes!

    • @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding
      @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      k p The spatula is only back in that bowl while the chicken is still raw and cooking. When the asparagus was added, the bowls were switched, then using the asparagus bowl. The chicken was still not fully cooked at that time. Thanks for the comment!

    • @kp-ue3xn
      @kp-ue3xn 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Look at your reply, "The chicken is still raw and cooking". Once the outside of the chicken hits the pan and changes color means it's cooking from the outside in. So each time you use the spatula from that bowl it re-introduces raw juices to cooked meat. Can't say how long that raw chicken was sitting in that bowl, or the temp of the day, I'm just saying. Take it as you will, justify as you want, I'm just saying. Good day. 😁

    • @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding
      @FamilyAdventuresOverlanding  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      k p so do you use a new spatula every time you flip a burger or new tongs every time you turn your chicken? There’s at least 20min of cook time for everything after the chicken is done. And what you don’t know is the spatula was washed before serving. Not really worth arguing over. Thanks for your comment.

    • @kp-ue3xn
      @kp-ue3xn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@FamilyAdventuresOverlanding no, I don't use a new utensil each time I just don't put the utensil back into a bowl that contained raw anything. Done. Bye.
