Can I seriously ask if you think grading is soft there compared to UK? I’m from Australia but whenever US boulders show in my reels and they’re like “v9” they GENUINELY look so soft.
From SF Bay area- I've climbed at gyms here, southern California and Mexico. It really varies gym to gym tbh. Experienced soft and sandbagged within each location

I always see instagram reels of american gyms and some of those walls are so high and all the routes end at the top of the wall, it's crazy! The boulders always look easier, but I think its the amount of moves that makes the grade higher a lot of the time.

there are a bunch of places around the bay that have huge bouldering walls. Movement santa clara is another. Gets a little sketchy haha
Broke my ankle there, can confirm 🫠👍 although I wouldn't say their walls are Super tall. Mesa Rim in socal has some crazy high walls
When I visited dogpatch 5 years ago I had the exact same feeling of god damn these blocs are long and shit this wall is hiiiigggghhhh

That orange v9 would be rated a 5 or 6 at my gym. What's up with the grading there?
Dogpatch boulders is owned by Touchstone climbing. They're pretty infamously known for having incredibly soft grading.
Makes some sense to me, giving the super high ones a bit higher grades so mostly people who are very comfortable with true grade try them to have less accidents.
Screw it. Call it a v21. What's the difference is all I'm saying.
Bobat thought they'd come to USA and everything would be soft. Lol. to be fair though, some gyms are soft and some are sandbagged. Just like everywhere else in the world. Go figure.
