Selling Cheap & Buying Deals! | Highway Antique & Vintage Sales

  • My little storehouse and the little town of Earlington, Kentucky come back to life in this fun video! It's time for the annual Highway 41 Sale, where I join the hundreds of yard sales along the old Chicago-Miami highway through Kentucky with a mega estate liquidation at my place at the midpoint.
The goods are fun and the fun is cheap at my sale, where everything from fancy china and glass to a giant Santa Kodak display and a Ryder Cup golf bag are headed out the door at wholesale prices! We talk about what we're selling in antiques & vintage, show prices and purchases, and share the experience of selling out a $3 tent of vintage fashion & jewelry, $1 and $5 tables, tool tables and categories ranging from cameras to Shirley Temple dolls! It goes fast and furious, with before and after views to show you what's hot with the hordes of buyers shopping the highway between Evansville, Indiana and Clarksville, Tennessee.
What to do with our well earned gains? Spend them at another sale, of course! Recognizing Earlington's very central location, the Western Kentucky Antique & Vintage Show is having its first ever gathering on the edge of town by the freeway, and we have time to catch it after we close our sale. Can we find fun things our collectors enjoy to show, shop and buy, now that we're loaded down with cash from our selling day?
This nascent show does not disappoint! Though small, it is packed with variety, including some things we've never seen...tulip handled cast iron skillets from an obscure Victorian foundry in New York, an anti-dam license plate topper from 1940 and a store jug from the tiny town of Gracey are among the first-time things we encounter here. Fantastically colored kitchen tin (including the piece we buy), cool 1930s local advertising pieces, even nerdy fun 1960s pocket protectors with advertising all roll into our awareness, and we take home a fun bunch of stuff for our future reselling. Quite a day for this sleepy little town where nothing happens the rest of the year!

You are so right about 50's kids and accordions. My poor cousin who was actually a 40's kid, was forced to play the accordion for us when we came to visit. He hated it. His dad was very stern, a Russian boxer who boxed in the Olympics. So you didn't say no to him. He always scared me. But the accordion was fun.....Lady of Spain! They lived in a victorian house in what is called the Bayview district of San Francisco. Glass doorknobs, button light switches, tall tall ceilings, narrow staircase, a place in the wall for the telephone. Wonderful memories! At 26:36 I spied my metal curlers that I used when I was little. And I still have them!

Which makes me smile too.😀😊😁 Wishing you good luck with the rest of the sale.

Deborah, your story reminded me of an auction my parents went to many years ago. A stuffed pheasant was up for auction and the bidding was fierce. Finally SOLD. My mom turned to my dad and said she wondered what damn fool bought that. It was my dad. I don’t remember what happened to it, but it never made it into the house!

27:12 I did not think they were toilet paper rolls: I always thought that they were STRING HOLDERS on packages that were awkward to put in a bag. They would string up the large box and then put the handle on it to carry home. Remember back in the day NO PLASTIC bags - only paper. And they ripped easily.

Good evening, George! You had a really nice Victorian shelf hanging that I really liked. There were a couple Victorian doorknob escutcheon plates that I liked a lot, too. I saw so many things you had that I liked, it would've taken me quite a while to shop your storehouse...and likely a U-Haul, too 😂 That hardware store cabinet, at the antique show, would make a fantastic side table. Loved the tulip-handled cast iron. I would've really liked to have been at your sale! Sounds like you did really good with it. Thanks for taking us along on the tours!

Not toilet paper rolls! When one shopped in department stores back in the day, they boxed up larger purchases into cardboard boxes, tied with string and put one of those onto the string so it could be carried home easily.

I love your videos and I learn so much about things I still have that belonged to family. I may never get to sell it all but at least knowing what is worth money for now makes it easier to weed through everything. I did try to find the video about pennants. Couldn't find it in the Florida 2022 playlist, at least nothing in the thumbnail or description? Could you provide a link please? I have about 15-20 old pennants from colleges and as souvenirs from travel. Thanks!

So much cool stuff! George this may be out of your area of expertise but im asking anyways. Back in the 80s some kid in my class went into the dumpster at the Atari company and found a bunch of Atari stickers that were misprints...handed them out and I had a bunch. They were the stickers that were supposed to go on the game cassettes. I tossed them out years ago. Do you think they would have been worth anything? Did I completely screw up throwing them out? I have no idea haha😂😂😂
