If Smith suddenly became a billionaire, this channel would become the greatest things to ever exist. We all loved the America vlogs, now imagine that with a billion pounds flying around.
I've known people that came into giant amounts of money, and it does change you. Everybody always says it won't, but it does. People treat you differently, and then you get angry because they treat you differently, and then you have to change the whole way you do everything.
lachesism "the desire to be struck by disaster-to survive a plane crash, to lose everything in a fire, to plunge over a waterfall-which would put a kink in the smooth arc of your life, and forge it into something hardened and flexible and sharp, not just a stiff prefabricated beam that barely covers the gap between one end of your life and the other." - The Dictionary Of Obscure Sorrows
This episode was gold. Fantastic topics of conversations, very funny speculation about said topics, interesting discussion there at the end. Enjoyed it better than the average, which I already like a lot :)
BucketOf Hurt Half true. Not that I want to oust myself as someone with a personal connection to the flight, but the plane broke apart in mid-air and any passenger not killed by the blast fell unconscious pretty quickly and probably died before the wreckage hit the ground.
I'm sure there's a lot of ways to die when the plane starts ripping its self apart, however, the change in pressure wouldn't be one of the reasons. It certainly wouldn't be comfortable on the human body, but it wouldn't be violent enough to out right kill someone. The most likely way the change in pressure could kill someone was by violently dragging their body out of the plane. However, i think the most likely way to be killed is either by shrapnel or the crash it's self. But luckily for us we would probably pass out before the plane hit the ground due to how incredibly thin the air would be and our bodies being exhausted from all the "excitement"
You might not die but if the plane loses pressure extremely rapidly and violently at cruising altitude you're not going to be conscious for long. Look up "Time of useful consciousness".
SmartEveryDay did a pretty good video in a low pressure chamber. You lose coherence very quickly in the thin atmosphere at flight altitudes for most passenger jets.
I like for the title they used the tiniest little reference to fit in with the rest of the videos.. The real title of this video should be... "Guys, lets talk about plane crashes, and challenge the idea of what it means to be happy | GTA 5 Online Playlist"
And why would you take anything a youtube-entertainer says seriously? :p Ofc he's not going to delete his livelyhood, who would even think he was being serious? :D
Yousei85 Because 1. Mainstream media can use it to show that "gamers" are just a bunch of people who are untrustworthy and 2. Pewdiepie, if he likes it or not, is the one youtuber mainstream media talks about so yes if you can't take the biggest youtuber seriously then what about all the rest of them. The people who actually do serious videoes on youtube are going to be harmed by the fact that one person wanted to have a little bit of fun. And no he would not delete his livelyhood he could very easily create a new channel and then posted a video before he deleted his channel that the new channel is his new channel.
kingckfu Yea let ut not think about people perception of youtube entertainers (gamers) and just let them think that we are all a bunch og masse murderers.
This is why I love HatFilms, the discussions they have like these feel so real compared to other forms of media, the way they act and say the truth whilst coming across as funny and entertaining really shows their character. Good video lads!
I love the philosophical element!!! Such a refreshing channel!!! The very deep, very human conversations with a twist of hilarity makes you three my favorite youtubers!
Dear lads, I know youre probably not going to read this, but im very grateful of what you do. The things you describe in your videos and the stuff you talk about is really relatable for me. I've been subscribed for many years now, and i'm overjoyed by saying that you never dissapoint me, and you always make me laugh, which also makes you my favorite channel. Thanks for everything champs.
This was a very interesting video my dudes, i love the chemistry of you guys and how close and integrated you are even though you have completely different values and opinions on life and i often find myself agreeing with smithy because i see myself in him. great video man i'd love to see more natural content like this :D
This is why I love you guys. You can talk about a lot of deep subjects (simulated reality, how money can change people, free will, illusion of control, the value of difficulty and conflict to make life more fulfilling, getting a blowy from Elon) and you do it in a way that's super entertaining and never "preachy".
That was a bloody good discussion at the end there. Sir Smith has a really interesting perspective on that topic, and I'm glad he stuck to his guns and fully explained what he meant.
Air travel is not the safest form of transportation smith, that would be trains. And also Trott, dying for thousands of people's lives is better than dying for nothing..
Ethan Krammer That depends on how you count. If you count the amount of deaths per billion passenger miles, planes have a way lower lethality than trains. People just feel like they have no control on planes. Als,o all comercial air crashes come on the news, but not the same with trains. People are more scared and it becomes a bigger story for the news outlet. Today you're much more likely to get into a car/train accident on your way to the airport, than your plane actually crashing.
The problem with Ross's argument during the billionaire discussion is that he assumes everyone's goal in life is to get money. It doesn't really apply to Smith's argument which seems based on the idea that people desire experiences and fun over money
rdizzy1 It is possible but you would have to be very creative, adaptive and have a good network. I know that there are people who will make a sport out of it to travel around the world.
Just speaking of planes and all that, I think it's amazing how many are in the air at once. The number of people currently on planes is somewhere between 500,000 and 1 million. That means there is basically a decentralized flying city above the planet at any given time.
Just FYI but that flight they mentioned that crashed in a field, had almost no discernible wreckage (which is inconsistent with normal plane crashes), thus becoming part of the overall conspiratorial questioning of the official story of what happened where on 9/11.
The Govt at one point revealed that they shot it down on the day, before changing the story a couple of hours later, if I do recall correctly. Ultimately, you need to research it yourself and form your own opinion, but I would go with the shot-down theory.
Your talk is one I've had before, and It makes me depressed every time. Not your fault, I'm glad this was an interesting episode instead of a normal one. Thanks guys, and thanks for not being shallow zombies.
Yay, I'm done with my finals and I got a nice long Hat Films discussion episode to enjoy as a reward, haha. Lots of interesting topics today! Personally, I wouldn't want to be handed a bunch of money like that, even if I knew what to do with it. I think part of my enjoyment of life is not from getting/doing what I want, but rather enjoying small moments with friends or overcoming the challenges that life might throw me. But if I had a bunch of rich pals as well, I'd probably go for it then, haha!
I get what Ross is saying, and I almost entirely agree. If you're paranoid enough, you can be pretty damn safe while driving a car. Mind you, it's never perfect, but the feeling of control is quite effective and calming.
I really liked these tracks, actually, especially the last one was much more creative than most of the other ones I've seen in GTAV. It gave me some nice Trials vibes with the waterfall thing and the burning trees and the wall riding bit. I like it.
3:52 Mass has nothing to do with it. The only reason things fall faster or slower is due to air resistance, other than that they fall at the same rate ask Galileo. And in the case of a plane air resistance is a contributing factor in keeping it up. The issue is found in getting the plane to such a speed where it's at that point, so that's where mass comes in.
Around 15:22 to answer Trott's question, yes they do that. Here's a good example I know some here could relate to. Do you or anyone you know ever gotten close to a wealthy owner or higher up in a cooperation? You start finding things already being paid for, and when you ask who, they tell you it's your boss. You get given free vehicles, huge bonuses, etc.. These people have already showered everyone they care for in money, so it builds up, and it goes towards their favorite employees, ones they see as potential friends.
Smith argues the need for challange in the simulatiin, than latter in same episode advocates how great it would be to have enough money to do as he pleased
ross you're actually right having more fuel means more weight which makes harder take offs and landings, its why they have to dump fuel for some emergency landings
The really horrific thing about the MA Flight 17 is that the Buk missile that downed the plane has a warhead of "only" 150lbs. While that's plenty enough energy to disable the aircraft, if the fuel didn't immediately detonate it's quite possible that some passengers survived until surface impact. Very sobering thought.
Flying was a completely different experience after I got my pilots license. Suddenly, the fact I couldn't see out the front (especially during landings) was much more disconcerting. It was really similar to when I got my drivers license. It made me pay attention to how bad other people drive.
Commercial airliners don't carry a full tank of gas unless absolutely necessary. it costs money to carry extra mass also planes have a maximum takeoff and landing weight. The max landing weight tends to be measurably lower than Max takeoff weight.
I've been driving for two years. I've been in 2 accidents. One was five months after getting my license. The last one was 3 weeks ago. neither were my fault. on both occasions I was blind sided. the last time I was blind sided straight into the drivers door and now have scars on my face as a daily reminder that driving is dangerous.
Planes have more fuel than it needs because in a emergency it might have to reroute or it has to circle around the airport and also the pilot has to have about 1200 hours in sim training for crashes and what to do. My father is a licence aircraft engineer and they have to have a lot of training to do this job.
I like smiffy's view on money and stuff. Money is nothing but a struggle. When you get this out of the way, you can focus only on the things, that really count in life.
When flying you put your life in the hands of 2 people (the pilots). While driving you put your life in the hands of every idiot with a license. Flying is MUCH more safe.

The simulation argument, particularly the game one, is more or less indistinguishable from certain theological or (re)incarnative perspectives. Given infinite time and resources, our species (or another) could develop technology which could simulate the world in such a way as to be indistinguishable from it. VS An all-powerful, all-knowing being, for some reason (boredom) or none, decides to split itself into infinitely many pieces in order to experience itself as a separate entity (or entities), eventually reconstituting itself and assimilating all of the infinitely many lives lived to paradoxically become richer for it. You play the game long enough - and you might be immortal by the time we can simulate worlds - how can you distinguish between the two?
The only difference is one relies on a materialist, technological view of existence and one doesn't. Substitute the god-figure for an alien, or us in the future (difference??), and tell me they're not the same thing.
Smith, if you like that concept of a virtual reality but your memory is wiped, you would really this book called 'The Game', its really good and covers that area
From being in a simulation to PewDiePie to being a lonely billionaire, this is the best episode that they just talk about stuff in a while.
Teh BrownieMixx I watch the gta videos for dick jokes. If I wanted meaningful discussions I'd watch the trials videos!
Alex Smith - Self proclaimed phd in everything

This was the best episode of hat chat in a while.
I've known people that came into giant amounts of money, and it does change you. Everybody always says it won't, but it does. People treat you differently, and then you get angry because they treat you differently, and then you have to change the whole way you do everything.
Power corrupts and money buys power. One needs a very strong character and to be self conscious in order to remain relatively unchanged.

4:02 I love when they get into a legit conversation that they're so involved in that Ross's bit at 5:09 is an interruption.
Haha, I know, that was great! I love that he still felt the need to do his bit though, haha!
Man, these GTA V vids are so good
This episode was gold. Fantastic topics of conversations, very funny speculation about said topics, interesting discussion there at the end. Enjoyed it better than the average, which I already like a lot :)
The missile that shot down the plane over Ukraine didn't kill many outside the cockpit. The passengers were probably conscious all the way down
BucketOf Hurt Half true. Not that I want to oust myself as someone with a personal connection to the flight, but the plane broke apart in mid-air and any passenger not killed by the blast fell unconscious pretty quickly and probably died before the wreckage hit the ground.

Hat Films: Going Deep
I like for the title they used the tiniest little reference to fit in with the rest of the videos.. The real title of this video should be... "Guys, lets talk about plane crashes, and challenge the idea of what it means to be happy | GTA 5 Online Playlist"
to be fair, him trolling media was pretty funny.
I totally agree with you that it was funny but it also shows that you can't take anything he promises serious.

Air travel is not the safest form of transportation smith, that would be trains. And also Trott, dying for thousands of people's lives is better than dying for nothing..
Thanks for saving me making that comment. :P
I don't think that was what Trott was trying to say
Well trott was thinking about the very end of their hypothetical situation rather than all of it like smith.
Ethan Krammer That depends on how you count. If you count the amount of deaths per billion passenger miles, planes have a way lower lethality than trains. People just feel like they have no control on planes. Als,o all comercial air crashes come on the news, but not the same with trains. depends on country of origin. Trains in rural India, say, are less safe than a plane from the Bullet Train in Japan.
I love videos like these where they have these philosophical chats for half hour.
The problem with Ross's argument during the billionaire discussion is that he assumes everyone's goal in life is to get money. It doesn't really apply to Smith's argument which seems based on the idea that people desire experiences and fun over money

I actually really needed this episode today, guys. Thanks for the lovely videos, Hats.
Loved the Video and I agree 100% with Smith about money.
I really do love it when they intellectual conversations like this

Hat films and the meaning of life! What a deep and mind bending conversation lads.
I had to pause the video and ask myself some serious philosophical questions, thanks guys.
This is the deepest Hat Films video ever.
I love that these boys have the ability to talk and not even say anything and it's still entertaining. Gotta love the hat boys
The banter was so good I didn't watch the video.

This is Trials talk
ducky hughes which is great... I love trial talks to become gta talks!!
You know they're invested in their conversation when Smith doesn't even blink at DNFing.
That was some deep conversing.
Loved it.
Wow Smiffy actually had a pretty good analysis of the simulation theory. i hadn't thought of it like that.
8:12 sounds like the Roy game from Rick and Morty
i was thinking the exact same
I love it when Smith gets really into whatever he's talking about
Yay, I'm done with my finals and I got a nice long Hat Films discussion episode to enjoy as a reward, haha. Lots of interesting topics today! Love the triple camera moments
Solid banter today, guys. Keep it up. I'm on team Smith for the billionaire argument.
I really liked these tracks, actually, especially the last one was much more creative than most of the other ones I've seen in GTAV. It gave me some nice Trials vibes with the waterfall thing and the burning trees and the wall riding bit. I like it.
Wow, was not expecting this conversation from a Hat Films video, but I'm glad I watched it.
Happy to see the GTAV playlist videos are turning into Trials-style philosophy vids
Great episode guys! Makes me miss Hat Chat a little though.
Best episode of Hat films in a long time
I find it amazing that anybody believed PewDiePie. He's like the ultimate troll.
I was really disappointed it wasn't real. I've watched maybe two of his videos, and that was one of them.
fatboyfat_uk I called the jacksepticeye 2 channel deletion yesterday

It's not a bug. TH-cam's just advertising TH-cam Rewind by rewinding everyone's subscriptions back to a time that they weren't subscribed.
This was different, this was thoughtful, and I enjoyed the hell out of it
Really enjoyed this episode. Enjoyed the kinda deep talk
I kind of enjoyed the sort of serious conversation at the end there.
Around 15:22 to answer Trott's question, yes they do that. Here's a good example I know some here could relate to. such a philosophical episode, I enjoy it.

This could have been a Trials episode lol i prefer those anyway.
Nico Mero I like these gta talks better
this discussion was awesome.. thanks lads for being my matrix lel
Thanks for the free philosophy lesson, they were amazing views in this thank you
Trials talk leaking into other videos? Yes please!
Commercial airliners don't carry a full tank of gas unless absolutely necessary. it costs money to carry extra mass also planes have a maximum takeoff and landing weight.
The max landing weight tends to be measurably lower than Max takeoff weight.
Add to that, the more needless fuel you carry, the less you can carry in cargo or pax (more useful load)
I think like ross, in a plane i have absolutely no control but in a car i can control anything i do.
Jake Edward In a car there are more things in your control, but there are much more things that are out of your control
Alex Smith the philosopher
The Hats are getting more philosophical in their old age.
I like that they were so busy arguing that Smith didn't even react to DNFing just before the finish line.
I like smiffy's view on money and stuff.
Money is nothing but a struggle. When you get this out of the way, you can focus only on the things, that really count in life.
This GTA V vid was like a podcast, bring back HAT CHAT! I'm suffering withdrawals
When flying you put your life in the hands of 2 people (the pilots). While driving you put your life in the hands of every idiot with a license. Flying is MUCH more safe.
this was like a hat chat episode, loved it XD
Fun fact most UK commercial Pilots are ex RAF or SAS pilots (same with American pilots and Air Force) so if terror attacks happen you are in good hands
I don't know about the UK, but that is actually a commonly held mis-conception in the US. Most US commercial pilots, airline or otherwise (not all commercial pilots fly airliners), are not ex military- most come from a civilan background. This used to not be the case (post WW2), but has been for some time now.
Craig Sydserff Yeah those are very different professions and this is a common misconception
The conversation in this made me listen to Boogies song from last years JingleJam
WARNING!!
This episode gets deep and very philosophical
really liked the conversation and the subject, you should try a talking video what goes in a little longer because in my option I just want to know more about the being suddenly rich subject and the simulation XD
The worst type of plane crash has to be the one where the German pilot deliberately crashed the plane into a mountain at full speed
On a side note though I do love the social commentary of this video
Wow, this is actually remarkably deep.
GTA V videos are the new Trials for HatFilosophy
Wow, that was actually a full episode with deep conversations,
