Took Business Studies GCSE and Economics A-Level, can confirm, they did not teach us how to do taxes. We learnt only about general taxation for corporations and VAT or those kind of taxes.

We had a mandatory class where you learn life skills, like how to do taxes, how to open a bank account and which one is better, how to write a cv, and how to budget for living alone and with roommates. I didn't take business studies, I take drama/English subjects.

I disagree with the notions you have to settle down in one career path for the rest of your life, you can always get a graduate degree and move on to something else or just move on a different path. For instance you can be an accountant for a while and then go for an MBA and do whatever the hell you want in that career path that has nothing to do with accounting (or is relevant to your experience).

At my school we had loads on days that didn't have normal lessons where we were taught things like how to write a CV, how to do taxes, how to change a fuse and grow vegetables etc, you know, all the things people complain about never being taught. The problem is that loads of people went "its not normal lessons so i'm going to stay at home" since it was during GCSEs and A levels.
Those very same people are the ones who go on facebook and like all those videos and pictures about how we don't get taught how to do taxes and grow vegetables at school...

i did business studies a university, what a waste of time, didn't learn taxes and i learnt the aspects of bunnies to such a minimal amount that its not useful, if you want to go to uni then do something that you enjoy but also something thats finite, for me business studies was just so broad they couldnt teach you or train you in any aspects of it whereas economics for instance is a much smaller pool of things to learning probably more interesting.

    LAW.
You can be taught about taxes and mortgages and the like by choosing Law as a subject at college or university, provided the syllabus covers property or business law or something similar. Also gives you basic knowledge on how parliament and politics works.
These are reasons why Law should be taught at secondary school.
Also yes even at uni, when it comes to the arts your grade pretty much depends on your teacher's subjective view of your work.
