I just ran into the same issue. I have had an Amazon customer account for several years. Having watched Paul's advice on setting-up an account, (much appreciated, Paul), I thought it best to create a new account for my small business as I am about to attempt to publish my first book, however, Amazon rejected my attempt to set-up a second account. I got onto the chat system and was told that I would require a second mobile phone number to set-up a second account due to the OTP, one time verification protocol, or whatever the initialization stands for.
My Amazon KDP journey is an absolute nightmare. After researching and designing a couple of journals and notary books I was able to upload them onto Amazon over a week ago. Now, Amazon has decided to terminate my account claiming I was trying to manipulate their system. I don't understand how I did this and am very frustrated. Good luck to everyone else who does KDP.
Do you have multiple accounts or shared a bank account with another person on kdp? Did you use a brand name or a keyword in your account not a pen name (human name)? Did you use any graphics or pictures copyrighted by others? Even if you have a license it's not enough they ask you to own it aka create it from scratch kinda thing. Did you use fonts that are not for commercial use? Did you publish something using templates that are very familiar on kdp like Canva? It might think you stole it

They weren't done they tried to scam me for $1100. to get a copyright that only costs $125. It was all scam.

Does it mean that Amazon withholds taxes that I owe to IRS and all the royalties I receive into my bank account are free from taxes so I don't have to pay the taxes (i.e. send money via wire transfer, or check etc.) to IRS by myself? All I need to do is just file a tax return next year for the year when I received those royalties, right? That makes things a lot easier for me.

I have. few pen names. One pen name has different types of books. Another mainly hsa sports related log books. I would start with different books under one name. Unless your aim is to say create a specific puzzle book or coloring book brand.

I have a question. I am confused about pen name and the DBA name, which is optional. If I put something in the DBA spot, does that mean I have chosen to be listed as a corporation and not individual? I was thinking of transfering my account to a company in the US or the EU. Got my Amazon Ads suspended a month ago, who knows if that's going to happen to KDP as well.
@@paulmarles not really. however I've found several other publishers who has this problem - all of us from Russia or Belarus, so it's got to be because of the war and the sanctions. Interestingly I'm not hearing anything from the Russian Amazon FBA community which is more numerous than KDP, so maybe it's not a carpet policy. I am trying to work it out with ads support - wrote to Jeff Bezos and got a member of leadership staff appointed to my case - but it still takes time. Trying to change my status with my Turkish residence at the moment. If it fails transfering to a company would be the next option.

But don't give up kdp is not the only publishing platform.. keep going, use other online publishers

Paul, if you set up as an LTD, the name you use in the first field (name, address, password) is the LTD name, right?

Yes, you can. If you don't add tax information then Amazon will just withold the tax. Something like 30%.
I think you can use your NI number in the UK for tax registration.

I don't know the rules in South Africa but I wouldn't have thought so as Amazon is doing all the trading and you are just receiving royalties.

It will depend on your individual tax situation. That is something you would really need to ask an accountant.

Yes, that would be fine. They are two different accounts. It is only two KDP accounts that you can't have.

No, you can only connect one currency account. Amazon converts the currencies from the different jurisdictions before depositing into your account.

I have a question. I am confused about pen name and the DBA name, which is optional. If I put something in the DBA spot, does that mean I have chosen to be listed as a corporation and not individual? Is DBA the same as Pen Name?

I was thinking of transfering my account to a company in the US or the EU. Got my Amazon Ads suspended a month ago, who knows if that's going to happen to KDP as well.
It's worth thinking about. Did they give a reason for your Amazon Ads suspension?
@@paulmarles not really. however I've found several other publishers who has this problem - all of us from Russia or Belarus, so it's got to be because of the war and the sanctions. Interestingly I'm not hearing anything from the Russian Amazon FBA community which is more numerous than KDP, so maybe it's not a carpet policy. I am trying to work it out with ads support - wrote to Jeff Bezos and got a member of leadership staff appointed to my case - but it still takes time. Trying to change my status with my Turkish residence at the moment. If it fails transfering to a company would be the next option.
