      It rains a second time to cause you to scream

    This ride scared me to death as a kid. You just sit in the dark, and its what you dont see that gets you. After many years, maturing, if it were up (it was replaced by Stitch's Great Escape) and running today, I would totally go back on it.

      +Shay Blay You too? I was too scared to go on anything the rest of that whole trip. My dad complained about it for weeks afterwards. I honestly think the original idea was way less troubling. Having a gun to fight Xenomorphs would at least put the power in the audience's hands, rather than be restrained, which is part of what made it so troubling, especially for younger audience members :'/

      Yes! My family was very upset at me also for being a "baby" I could of been around 12. I suffered with anxiety severely at the time and that on top of being forced on rides like that didn't end well. Lol! Hell if that wasn't enough the next day, I was forced onto the Earthquake ride at the other park. Have you been on that one!? In a subway tunnel,Theres fire and water surrounding you and then a truck comes sliding towards the ride and blows up. It's dark. Next was King Kong and Jaws. All terrifying for me, didn't help my father loved to act like it was a real danger. Ha! The ET ride was the only one I enjoyed. Lol! 😂 I don't know why any parent knowing what the ride was like would take someone that young on it.

The reality is that text messaging began commercial use on cell carriers in 1993 after Nokia began producing handsets supporting it. ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter opened in 1994 and didn't close until 2003. You're showing your ignorance again.

    I never rode this when I visited Disney in 2003 because I was Too Scared. :(
    I rode the Stitch ride years later, but it really wasn't anything THAT thrilling as I hoped it to be. :P
    After watching this video now that I am 20, I want to go on this ride SOOOO BADDDLLLY!!!! If you are reading this Disney, PLEASE PLEAAASEEE bring "Alien Encounter" back when you close down Stitch, even if it's just for a limited time like "Captin EO"! I know there might be a way to balance the intensity for both kids and adults. You should give guests special scan cards that increases or decreases the intensity for them, like what you did with "Mission Space". I know this can work!

    Ohmygod. I remember BEGGING my mom to let me experience this attraction when I was about 7 or 8? I can't remember. She kept telling me it was boring and made it seem like the seat restraints were a pain. I wouldn't stop bugging her until she let me... and I immediately regretted it as soon as that alien was transported in that tube thing😂 I cried sooooo hard afterwards. I remember not even leaving the attraction yet, just standing in the exit area, crying with my mom comforting me😂😂 Now watching this as a 22 year old... I really wish they'd bring this back. It was just so real. I think what scared me the most was the maintenance worker "dying". I kept asking my mom if that was blood that sprayed (which I think we were supposed to believe that) But of course she kept saying "What? No that was water. What're you talking about?" 😂 Also that one robot being mean to that cute alien in that pre show thing made me feel really uneasy😂

    so i'm curious, is this show really as terrifying and traumatizing as everybody says it is? I was alive around the time it was still open, but I was only 3 years old by the time it closed down so I was definitely way too young to be seeing a show this scary at the time. I imagine it was about 10 times more scary in person than it is in this video because you don't get the whole surround sound affect and everything but is it really THAT terrifying of an attraction? I'm just curious because i've been really fascinated with this show pretty much ever since I found out it existed.

    • @A_A610
      @A_A610 8 ปีที่แล้ว +31

      Short answer: Yes, it was legitimately scary.
      Long answer: The show was designed entirely to mess with your head, and they exploited the show system very well. The alien is only visible long enough to establish in the mind that it exists, and it is a threat. When all the lights go down, your other senses try to fill the void of darkness with whatever information it can get. At that point, you're much more susceptible to sound cues and tactile effects. Though the effects were rather simple, they became incredibly scary when the brain thinks they're from a bloodthirsty monster.

    • @LiveForFuntasy
      @LiveForFuntasy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Additionally, Alien Encounter was such an extreme contrast to the family friendly atmosphere of Disney World that a ride this intense comes as such a shock. Basically, riders weren't prepared for a scary ride like they would've been at other theme parks, so Alien Encounter caught a lot of people off guard.
      I rode Alien Encounter several times in my childhood. I think I was about 6 when I first went on it in the mid-90s, so it was probably fairly new then. I was never traumatized by it, but I thought it was awesome and exciting. However, I was a bit upset by the pre-show because I misheard the robot and thought that the cute Skippy alien got killed.
      To be honest: I was actually scared more by the haunted mansion that same visit when I was 6. Not because the mansion was scarier (it's really tame in comparison) but I was nervous and hid my face in my hands most of the ride because I expected a horror-based ride to be inherently scarier than the scary alien sci-fi ride I had ridden earlier in the day.

    • @lostjack157
      @lostjack157 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      And the interesting thing about it is that it was originally an Aliens attraction where the xenomorphs would be monster. It would have been terrifying attraction for those who have seen the Aliens films and know what these creatures are capable of. It is definitely not for young kids.

    • @TheBearSpiceKitchen
      @TheBearSpiceKitchen 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Also, add to that the fact that you're trapped in a harness that comes down over your head and pins your shoulders down. Claustrophobics didn't last too long. It also made it worse that if you got too frightened during the show, you couldn't just get up and leave. I was 37 when I rode it, and it terrified me. Mind you, I hate haunted houses and things where the scary things touch you.

    • @jbeachboy100
      @jbeachboy100 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      it was kind of scary cause it felt like the alien was actually near you with effects and it was real but thats what made it so awesome. mostly young kids would be terrified of this especially for first time if you never experienced it.

    This ride being unsuitable for small children is not an excuse for taking it down. Any adult who hasn't been living under a rock knows what Alien is and should know not to bring children into an attraction based on what is widely regarded to be one of the scariest movies of all time, let alone a ride with "TERROR" in the name. This obviously is not going to be at Haunted Mansion level. Not everything at Disney has to be suitable for 5 year olds, and that's not limited to just the big rollercoasters.

    • @A_A610
      @A_A610 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      While similar to the Ridley Scott films in tone and style, Disney refused to sign off on an attraction that was directly tied to Alien. To compromise, they made their own story, but that in turn helped kill off Alien Encounter.
      The big selling point of the Alien tie in was that guests knew what Alien was, and would know right off the bat an attraction based on the films would not be appropriate for sensitive audiences (including young kids). By going with an original story, Disney lost that built in parental control; despite providing adequate and repeated warnings about the show's intensity, parents didn't take them seriously because they didn't expect Disney to actually make something that scary.
      Since Disney owns enough "adult" franchises with established hostile alien races (e.g. Star Wars, Guardians of the Galaxy), they could feasibly revisit this and give it the proper tie in that would show parents their 5 year old probably won't like it.

That is worse than outright destroying the animatronic. They acknowledge the alien and Skippy, but S.I.R.? Nope. Even when this attraction was around, they didn't give S.I.R. any popularity. They just released an action figure of him and that's it. Not even a vehicle to go with the action figure (like so many '90s franchises.) AND YOU KNOW WHAT'S BAD?! THE ACTION FIGURE COULDN'T HOLD ANYTHING, SO THEY DIDN'T MAKE ANY ACCESSORIES FOR IT! He also didn't appear in the WDW video games. It was a freak show. But now watching this recorded vacation video here on TH-cam makes me wish they had never ever closed the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter on October 12th of 2003 to replace it for Stitch's Great Escape. If the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter was still in the Tomorrowland area of the Magic Kingdom park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando Florida to this very exact day, I would be so scared of it anymore. Both the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter and The Haunted Mansion would be the two best pre-show and ride for Halloween every year. And If I talked my mom into going inside the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter, It would've also probably really scared her too. I just posted about my experience. My mom swears I broke out of the safety restraints because I was on her lap by the time someone could come and escort us out of the ride midway through it! I guess my screams of horror was proof that I was literally going to cause them a law suit lmao

    I could see an Alien (Ridley Scott) version of this ride. It doesn't have to be made by Disney but it could be done. If it already has, someone tell me.

      The Xenomorph was supposed to be the subject of the original plans for the attraction, but they were shelved.

      That's unfortunate. Would have been seriously cool to have a Xeno involved in this.

      Parker Sellers Yeah, the original plan was to name the ride Nostromo and have it feature the Alien. But I think they decided it wasn't appropriate for a Disney park. There is an Alien segment on the Great Movie Ride however.

      Haley angelo After it "escapes" the tube the lights go out and all you see is the flashlight of the guy in the catwalk trying to restore power. He gets killed by the alien and you can feel his blood (actually just warm water) dripping on you. Once his flashlight is out you are in complete darkness and you can hear the alien behind you, feel it's breath on your neck and also feel it brush up against your legs. The way they used the surround sound in the auditorium, the total black out and the physical effects of you being touched was pretty scary/fun. This was a very memorable attraction and it's a shame they got rid of it.
