That’s called romanticizing your childhood memories. We all do it, but it’s based in emotional recall and not objective truth. There’s a reason Disney updates rides and attractions with the exception of a lot of the ones at MK where the whole idea is having it feel “classic.” Attractions show their age as the years pass and need to be updated to stay relevant, and there will always, always be people saying “it was better back in the day!” Even when that’s not really true. I work at this attraction and have great memories riding the original version as a kid. Disney has made lots of questionable changes in recent years, but the updates to star tours aren’t among them. People love the different show scenes and the rebel spy cam (they tell us so). The 3D is just so-so I’ll give you that, but that’s how it is with every 3D attraction. Sometimes it’s best to let past memories stay memories… that’s where they fare the best. The original star tours in today’s Hollywood studios would be confusingly outdated and underwhelming.
I was part of the college program in the summer of 1993, and worked Star Tours. Was one of the best times of my life. Occasionally we would get Ewoks that would just lean against the rope of the wheelchair ramp, and people would think they weren’t real. Someone would poke one and the would jump at them and people would scream. We would hear them scream, and we would know Ewoks were in the building hearing them in the Lead office which was through the door past Speeder 1. The extended queue line was known as the Death Star when it was set up. Also the line of the cast member when departing was never scripted though most would say “May the Force be with you....because I won’t be.”
Star Tours was always my favorite ride at MGM. I loved the inside layout/atmosphere and the sound effects that lead to the actual ride. I never knew they changed it up recently because the last time I went to Disney World was in 2008 so this is nostalgic for me. I've been to Disney World four times but I do miss it.
In the memory of Captain Rex aka (RX-24) he's a such a great pilot. But now he's fired. Today he's such a bad driver. He's sure was a good pilot. But now he's not a pilot anymore from 1987-2010.
That was actully canon. According to Wookiepedia: Rex was fired after the events of Star Tours (1987). He then crash landed at Galaxy's Edge were he is now Dj Rex.
Even though the new ride features multiple settings, I'm always going to prefer this one due to a numbers of things. Apart from nostalgia, the old ride had raw graphics that aren't gimmicky and heavily computer processed like the new one. I enjoy the true Lucas look of the 70's. Also, the 3D aspect turns me off. I hate having to wear glasses to feel immersed in the situation. Kind of brings the magic away from it all. It's too bad you didn't get a shot of all of the posters in the exit lunge after leaving the ride. Do they still have those in the new one?
5:38 Attention all Star Tours Passengers. It is time for our final flight to the Moon of Endor. You're all clear for departure. May the Force be with you.
Even though some channels recreated this in animation, it’s possible that the original version of Star Tours could be used for one half of the Star Speeders while the other half is used for the newer version.
New information: Apparently, John Williams declined on scoring the new attraction, instead Michael Giacchino (of Pixar's most recent films) will be composing the music for Star Tours II. I, myself am a huge fan of Michael's work , so I am quite excited about this.
seems they missed something.....I seem to recall after getting to Endor you hear radio comunication asking what Star Tours was doing here at Endor or near the Death Star.
IN REAL LIFE Captain Rex:OH NO ! WE'RE COUGHT IN THE TRACTOR BEAM! PASSENGERS: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! IN STAR WARS WORLD Captain Rex: OH NO! WE'RE COUGHT IN THE TRACTOR BEAM! PASSENGERS: HOLY SHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!
They should have kept 3 of the 6 simulators as Endor and the other 3 as updated so you could chose which one you want to ride. Or however many simulators they have split it up evenly so you can chose which ride you wanna ride (only in a perfect world I know)
I've watched the new ride. I don't like it...I grew up going to Disney every couple of years and riding this version of the ride. The old-style film reminded me of the 'original' films and how they were still awesome even if the technology wasn't as advanced as today's. The new ride is like the prequels-dull, overdone, and relying too heavily on modern technology for all the effects. I haven't been to WDW si. will miss this ride.
lol... not bad the ride was outdated indeed, sometimes changes are good for Disney. Like the revisited Michael Jackson 3d such a good decisions as honey we blew up the audience was really really outdated. Thank god for youtube see all the old rides that predated yourself and other rides that may be updated are still here as an archive.
+StRiKeEzHD Yeah, ever since they got ride of the classics, Universal was never the same again. At least with Disney they respect the classics and when they get something right, they really get something right. The only reason to miss the classic attractions is for really nostalgia purposes.
@horrorandrew2009 They're remaking it in 3d and the ability to go to multiple planets. Its on the description. I will miss this version so much. Dont screw up the update or Im coming after you Disney!!!!!!!
@0V3CHKiN Well its about damned time! I went every time we went and he was always "its my first time!" and we never got to Endor. Bad work Performance sooner or later catches up.
A decade has passed and I will say this is my favorite version. No 3D no big plots. It’s so simple... I miss it.

I literally remember that parting line and I loved it as a kid at the time. 25 years later still remember it.
I work at the attraction now and we still say that. Some things never change😊

R.I.P. Paul Reubens 😢
While I love the Star Tours we’ve got right now, I miss the old one!!!! 😢

Caleb Gates He is now going to be a DJ in Star Wars Edge of the Galaxy!
Yay! =D He found employment!
@Brian Barajas Huh?
That was actully canon. According to Wookiepedia: Rex was fired after the events of Star Tours (1987). He then crash landed at Galaxy's Edge were he is now Dj Rex.
He was just getting used to his programming
I miss this ride so much! I have the sound effects on my phone
Thank you so much for posting this. My favorite ride anywhere. The new one doesn't hold a candle to this original.
this ride basically sums up my childhood. feel bad for everyone who will never get to ride this masterpiece. *tears up*
I still have the Star Wars X-Wing mug from that gift shop at the end that I had when I was about 12.. I'm 37 now
RIP Paul Reubens 😢💔
the renovation they did to this is sweet but I gotta say I miss capt rex lol.
Went on this in 1991, it was fantastic. Thanks for posting this video for the memory
I love this clip. Thumbs up to the camera man.

UnforAntly they got rid of the posters in the new version
I miss the old sounds they had from it
That stormtrooper's reaction #startours #starwars #Disney
Rest in peace pee wee herman
I remember this ride scared me when I was little
"I'm you're pilot, Pee Wee Herman! Hahah!"
5:38 Attention all Star Tours Passengers. It is time for our final flight to the Moon of Endor. You're all clear for departure. May the Force be with you.
"Brakes... breaks! *WHERE ARE THE BREAKS??* "
Hopefully the NEW version will have us GOING to Endor this time!
I just now noticed that the voice of the pilot is Paul Reubens! Wow haha
Wow, that's so sad, it'll never the same again. I hope the new one is just as good, or better!!! Can't wait!!! :D
Totally awesome!!!!! Such a shame but the park goes on....
The new ones alright... But I liked this one much better 😢
Not exactly. While Star Tours is still in operation, it is drastically different from this version.
im sad that they are closing it down but at the same time... FINALLY! seriously, they really needed to remake this attraction!
Even though some channels recreated this in animation, it’s possible that the original version of Star Tours could be used for one half of the Star Speeders while the other half is used for the newer version.
Iv got no problem with Adventure countinues but I still miss this version. No cgi and it gives you the feeling thats its a real traveling company
New information: Apparently, John Williams declined on scoring the new attraction, instead Michael Giacchino (of Pixar's most recent films) will be composing the music for Star Tours II. I, myself am a huge fan of Michael's work , so I am quite excited about this.
Aww, I liked this ride!
But the one in Paris is the same, so it'll be good to have a new one!
seems they missed something.....I seem to recall after getting to Endor you hear radio comunication asking what Star Tours was doing here at Endor or near the Death Star.
the storm troopers walking around was a nice touch
Rex is going to be working behind the pilot's chair. He's still a part of Star Tours!
IN REAL LIFE
Captain Rex:OH NO ! WE'RE COUGHT IN THE TRACTOR BEAM!
PASSENGERS: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
IN STAR WARS WORLD
Captain Rex: OH NO! WE'RE COUGHT IN THE TRACTOR BEAM!
PASSENGERS: HOLY SHHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!
That was the day after my birthday! i've heard great things about the new Star Tours, though.
They should make half of the ride the original version! Gates A/B/C: Star Tours 2.0, Gates D/E/F: Star Tours 1.0
i m glad i got 2 ride on it nd loking fwd 2 th new ride!!!!!
"AWWW someone needs a hug " , Gir from invader Zim
I would of hugged him
whoa! I got to ride it on monday! =) thank goodness i did. lol it was a good ride. cant wait for the refurb
BRING REX BACK FOR THE NEW RIDE!!
He's back in Galaxy Edge but and he's a DJ at Catina.
my favorite ride when i was a kid. The seven year old in me is going to miss it
I had no idea they changed the ride! This is Florida right? Is the Star Tours in Disneyland still there?
Mike C updated
How come they closed down and then redesign the ride? To expand the popularity of Star Wars with Disneyland?
To make it better. It was getting dated and plus Disney had just bought all of Star Wars, so it was just time for an update.
This reminded of the Final Back to the Future:The Ride
They should have kept 3 of the 6 simulators as Endor and the other 3 as updated so you could chose which one you want to ride. Or however many simulators they have split it up evenly so you can chose which ride you wanna ride (only in a perfect world I know)
That is possible since Disney could remaster the original version with digital audio and film editing.
Finally no more screaming babies
Fito Rey insert louder screams
I've watched the new ride. I don't like it...I grew up going to Disney every couple of years and riding this version of the ride. LOL! That hair tho!!!
ima miss the lady at 3:46 cuz when i was small i thought the ride was reel and i thought i landed in disneyland in a different planet
it's to bad rex isn't piloting the starspeeder anymore
Were caught in a tractor beam HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
If part of the new attraction includes decapitating Jar Jar with the speeder, it will be amazing.
Lets be honest that stormtrooper made the ride good
it would have been hilarious if the storm troopers were like the guards in england...
lol... not bad the ride was outdated indeed, sometimes changes are good for Disney. Like the revisited Michael Jackson 3d such a good decisions as honey we blew up the audience was really really outdated. Thank god for youtube see all the old rides that predated yourself and other rides that may be updated are still here as an archive.
yup, and I stand corrected. Rex ISN'T behind the pilot's chair.
I loved this ride so sad it had to shutdown
@garettd No, they're not. I checked.
why universal dont do like disney with the back to the future ride?i think universal its not more clever than disney
+StRiKeEzHD Yeah, ever since they got ride of the classics, Universal was never the same again. At least with Disney they respect the classics and when they get something right, they really get something right. The only reason to miss the classic attractions is for really nostalgia purposes.
+Jonny Boy you are right bro :)
StRiKeEzHD
Universal used to be my favorite theme park. But, now that it's cruely destroyed, which theme park am I going to root for now?
+Jonny Boy Magic Kingdom or Six flags are very good choices compared to Universal
Back to the Future ride didn’t renew the contract with Universal so they have the Simpson Ride instead. At least that is what I heard.
ALRIGHT THE BIGGEST FLAW IN THE PAST RIDE WAS THT...IT NEVER WENT TO ENDOR!!!!! AM I HAPPY THEY'RE REVAMPING IT? HELLZ YES
how did you hide the camera?
gojidoh Disney allows you to record their attractions (unlike Universal)
Very nice! :)
@horrorandrew2009 They're remaking it in 3d and the ability to go to multiple planets. Its on the description. I will miss this version so much. Dont screw up the update or Im coming after you Disney!!!!!!!
Rip mickeys magic house
Rex is returning for Star Wars land!!!!!
How do you know this?
Angie2343 At D23 they said he will be a DJ
What's gonna happen to Star Tours itself?
Love the Horizons Logo!
2:10 im gonna miss those two droids talking to each other :(
I was on on the last ride during the last tour to endor event during star wars celebration 5, no lie
Jeez these robots are so old....
at least they kept rex in the queue.... I would have rather seen him in the ride but hey, at least he's there.
At least the new one is in 3-D and have Darth Vader in it.
Has it really been 10 years?
The original in Paris closed in 2015 making it the oldest
3:07 Are you a little short for stormtrooper?
is thia a temporary ride?
How do you become a member of D23?
@zackglazberghrocks Where'd ya find out?
Were those members of the 501st?
It still open in Florida
i went there this year
This version of this ride was INFINITELY better than the absolute trash they've replaced it with.
Again, I stand corrected.
wow...so i guess they wernt lieing this time when they said it was the "Final Flight"
@0V3CHKiN Well its about damned time! I went every time we went and he was always "its my first time!" and we never got to Endor. Bad work Performance sooner or later catches up.
Yeah.
Remember this?
whoa you guys are lucky that you got to sit with a clone
Before aurebesh was widely used.
Should have been 29 years
He is in the display of defective droids in the line for Star Tours but he's not in the ride.
They really downgraded the queue, what a shame
I used to be terrified of that pilot
Farewell night
We never go to Endor! What gives?!
I dunno dude. I can never get a ride to endor. It's like every time I try to get a flight, it's delayed
I know! It sucks!
Disneyland Star Tours 2 Endor Star Death
Endor Star Tour At Walker Disneyland Florida it
Who cried ALOT, you mean XD
This is actually quite sad
@0V3CHKiN But not for long.
