    Good to see the monologue getting some love, getting some ms20 style tones about half way through the video and some very pleasant bass sounds. When I have made acid patches I always was with the mindset, well the 303 is 1 oscillator with square and saw options, so I would only ever use those but at the end of the day I think it's just best to make what sounds good. Off to a strong start with the tutorials

    • @JonathanRCross
      @JonathanRCross  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! I tend not to try to emulate a 303, because there's no point, a) I will fail, and b) you can buy an affordable one nowadays and buy some Roland stickers (lol). But rather I aim for something that sounds acidic, or acidesque. :-) Plus then you don't get anyone explaining that 'actually the filter is different on the 303 that's why it's blah blah blah.' I use two oscs to get a fatter acidic noise, because I also think the slight detuning helps with getting a more distorted resonant sound when you crank it and the drive. Anyway thanks for the compliment. I'll look forward to having a listen to your stuff. :-)

      @avrilcadabra 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JonathanRCross you are exactly right. Even when I did that people said it's not right because of the filter. If it's anything other than an original 303 people will find something. In my recent video about FM I used the resonance without thinking because I felt it sounded better instead of ruling it out as it's not part of FM. I will rethink my mindset about this. Thanks

      Avrilcadabra yeah. Go with what sounds right! Break the system 😂 in an entirely generic and non destructive way. 😃

      @squishmusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was thinking the same - for more authentic 303 sounds just use a sq or saw wave, but then since on the 303 one can select one of both it would be a cool idea on monologue to use saw(vco1) and square (vco2) and then you can morph into them by modulating the shape(?) or does shape as a modulation destination mean VCO1 and 2?

    • @JonathanRCross
      @JonathanRCross  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ah good plan. But yeah I've got a td3 now so I try not to emulate, I just try and get something that sounds screamy and acidic. There are shape knobs for each osc. They don't morph between the wave shapes however. You fix the waveforms using the switch then can adjust it's shape with the knob.

    Deep love for Korg Monologue. I use it in almost all of my compositions today. However in 2 years I still haven't been able to use the editor to load the patches. I do everything by hand, imitating what I see on youtube as your video. Congratulation eh ... nice sound ..

    • @JonathanRCross
      @JonathanRCross  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      DENEVA PLANET SOUND Studio &lab. I haven't done much with the editor or librarian. Other than exporting two patches for this vid.
      Because the screen is ace on the monologue I haven't had many issues with my patch organisation. But then again I have never really filled it with my own sounds yet. Thinking about making a soundpack one day. 😃

    Dont 4get u can add glide to the seq ;) Not sure how accent could be added (is the keyboard vel sensitive? - i dont have a monologue...yet), then one could go into motion seq mode and re-add louder notes.

    • @JonathanRCross
      @JonathanRCross  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes you can add glide. Accent not directly. But you could maybe automate the vco volume using the sequencer. Probs not worth it tho..

    Hi m8 I really thinking about getting one of these but I can't find any answers anywhere on my question? How many sequences can you save and if more than 1 how can u switch from sequence to sequence on the fly for live sets

    • @JonathanRCross
      @JonathanRCross  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can save a 16 step sequence with every patch/preset. so 100.
      To switch, you have to just turn the program knob. So if you were doing a live set, you could have the first four or five ready to go and then when you wanted just dial them in. You could choose if you wanted a different sound, or just the same sound with a diff sequence. If you wanted the sound to stay the same, just copy it four times, then record each sequence on each one and you're good. But I tend to turn all the knobs that much when playing that it doesn't really matter what the initial sound is for a patch/sequence, i end up tweaking it as i go.
